I fear that my character level up too fast.

Hi!

My character Antoine Désilet have played all the scenarios since the start. As a result, he is now level 3. (Yeah) His last adventure was the first mandate.

After I read the boons for this adventure, there something that concern me.

Spoiler:
The journey to the scoured stars segment 1

I fear that if I continue to play each adventure I will miss one or two adventures related to this boon because Antoine will be above thoses tiers.

I know the solution is to just create a new character but I really like Antoine.

Can I know what will be the next tier of thoses related adventures?

I wouldn't worry about progressing too fast to complete that storyline. I think Thursty has made it clear that he expects a lot of people to be playing the same character all season, and the scenario levels that have been announced bear out that you won't "outlevel."

Bear in mind that if you play every scenario scheduled to be released this year (5 at GenCon and 11 the rest of the year) that's still only 16XP - Level 6. So as long as the additional scenarios in that storyline are Tier 3-6, no one will outlevel them. (At the very end of the season we could even have a 5-8, but that might leave some people out who haven't played all the scenarios with the same character.)

The math for upcoming scenarios does its darnedest to make sure that PCs can partake in every major storyline. That being said, I will admit, the APs can potentially throw a wrench in some of the math that we have, especially when it comes to the 3-4 range.

I see players out-leveling Tier 1-4 scenarios before they start worrying about knocking themselves out of the the Tier 3-6s.

Character 1,

1-00, Quest, 1-01 = 3xp (Level 2)
AP book 1 = 6xp (Level 3)
1-02, 1-03, 1-04 = 9xp (Level 4)
1-05 = 10xp (Level 1)

Character #2
Quest, 1-01, AP book 1 = 5xp (Level 2)

We have 8-10 players sitting at this exact point right now in my LGS with the two characters

Character 1 continued
AP book 2 = 13xp (Level 5)
1-06, AP book 3 = 19xp (Level 6)

Character 2
1-07 = 6xp (Level 3)

This only takes you to the end of the calendar year with 3 more AP books and 7 more scenarios.

Depending on level ranges of the scenarios, this could go up to as much as 7 additional xp in scenario credit accessible to the first character, bringing them to a total of 26xp (Level 9) without playing any of the last 3 AP books. Forced distribution (making you play more than one character) is already a reality for anyone who wishes to experience everything Starfinder Society has to offer.

Playing APs over three 4-hour sessions has been a great way to fill the gap between scenario releases for those who have preferred to sign up for SFS over PFS at their LGS, especially since they are written to be able to be played in their entirety as Society sessions. We typically run a full 6-person table of SFS and 2-3 tables of PFS every week at our location.

The only question is how Paizo will balance the forced distribution of xp. I.e. the least number of characters you have to have (people who prefer to single-character as much content as possible) to see all content versus the maximum umber of characters (alt-aholics who want to make as many characters as possible without being too low level to play) you can have while still seeing all of the content.

I don't suppose any Paizo employee would care to comment on how high of a level "can" be obtained this year so that we can balance AP xp into our character planning so as not to spread too much storyline across too many characters while still getting to experience as many AP books as possible?

My main concern is playing 1 character through the entire AP.

I've got an operative I've played through 1-05 with. So he is now level 3. So when I go and play the AP in a couple of weeks I need a new character. This new soldier I've created is going to get to play through Into the Unknown before the AP. So when he's done he'll be level 2 (4xp). Even if I play that character through 1-01 again, he'll still be only level 2 and unable to play the second part of the AP.

Now I need to decided if I want to ignore the AP or start playing my soldier though the regular scenarios as well. Which would mean my operative could miss something.

1-06 is coming out as a level 3-6. So I'll be running my Operative through that. 7&8 will be 1-4 so that will be when I have to decided where I need to go with these 2 characters.

And that's as far ahead as I'm looking at the moment. I'd really like to play my Operative through all the regular scenarios this season and My Soldier through the AP. I'm just not seeing how that will be possible ::shrugs::

@Perdue - at my FLGS, I've been running the AP following the rules for Campaign Mode for a few reasons:

1.) I could let my players use some of the new Alien Archive races (we just started the AP in October), as they didn't need to follow legal PFS rules, so now I have a skittermander that I get to try to kill!

2.) Following non-SFS rules for leveling allowed me to make sure the characters are level-appropriate for the challenges of the AP (so I'm not just spoon-feeding the [REDACTED] at the end of book 1 a bunch of level-one characters)

3.) People can actually keep what they find on the adventures?? What??

I would talk to your AP GM about that if I were you - I think I'm going to need to talk to my local players about this thread so we can make the right decisions for how to assign the Campaign Mode chronicles and still stay within playable range for this season.

Well now it is confirmed. Antoine will go past level 4 after the next second seeker scénario. Well, it is okay.

Definitely play through the AP in campaign mode. Since you need to play the entire AP book to get credit for it in SFS, and the books assume you level up during them... campaign mode really is just easier.

And even with level appropriate players, the [REDACTED] is still plenty of a challenge. Here's how my players got through it (spoilers).
