What class / archetype is the best unarmed fighter in the game?

And when I say unarmed I mean classes where the express purpose to fight bare handed.

I boiled it down to
Monk
Brawler
Irorian Paladin
and Sacred Fist

If there is any other please tell me but out of these for or any that may come up which is objectively the best?

You could always go Fighter.

With brawling armor, weapon specialization, weapon training, TWF, Focused Weapon, weapon finesse, and Trained Grace the fighter is a viable choice.

True true...though admittedly i want to be able to have a character that is good at more then just beating the tar out of people.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

This is the best class of Pathfinder, and of course it can shine in unarmed fighting as well.

Of course there's nothing to debate at this point anymore. When you will realize it, fav this post. That's all. Easy peasy.

The fighter has the brawler archetype from UC.

A dex-based avenger vigilante can stack Fist of the Avenger, Lethal Grace, and Take 'em Alive for some really impressive scaling bonuses to damage and then two-weapon fight (you get pounce at 12th level.)

Are talking specifically unarmed strikes, or fighting without weapons generally? If the latter, Druid should definitely get consideration. Potentially also the new Shifter, but I haven't seen it yet.

If I'm not mistaken, then the "cloaker wolf" inquisitor is strong unarmed warrior. But I never tried it myself.

Oh this is pretty good....too bad oracle curses make this a big no no for me.

Pretty cool oracle mystery. One level of scaled fist monk (cha to AC and flurry of blows) followed by ascetic oracle? Sounds like fun.

Just take a relatively painless curse, like haunted.

The Legalistic oracle curse is almost completely painless. You just get the same "don't lie" requirements that Paladins have, but you don't get into any trouble as long as what you say is literally true, no matter how misleading or ambiguous it may be.

My favorite is actually a Swashbuckler with Snake Style (or Boar Style and slashing grace).

Then, as Grumbaki and PossibleCabbage mentioned, consider a non-big-impact curse. Some like Wrecker or Haunted are just boni/plus for an unarmed build. If it's an home game, can ask maybe to GM to not have a curse at all.

Anyway curse aside, there's not too many class out there that gives you unarmed damage as a monk while having good armor class, good numbers (bab, basic saving throws, hit die, skill ranks) and that may have spells. Up to ninth level.

I mean just look at blood crow strike spell, that lets attack with unarmed attacks at crazy medium spell range. An oracle can even quicken it, to do a double fullattack. Or ascendant it, and fire resistance is gone. Or even Reach it to long range!
What about oracular spellstrike with force punch channeled trhough unarmed strike? empowered intensified dazing please

Not mentioning all damage scaling from unarmed strike when increasing in size with one of the many spells an Oracle can cast...

And an ascetic oracle can be effective at many styles if adding the Warsighted archetype

The iroran paladin is not a good unarmed archetype. It has not support other than forcing you use unarmed strikes for your divine bond. A good unarmed class either needs a fake TWF method, dex based, or at least not be MAD to the point that you can't get 16 dex without crippling yourself.

Iroran paladin actually encourages low dex. Yes, light or no armor... but you add your CHA to Dex for Ac. A basic 14/14 puts you at max dex for many light armors. This makes for an interesting light armor tank (high AC, and a lot of it is touch AC rather than flat footed), but doesn't help with unarmed style.

Irorans work better if you just give them a nice 2 handed weapon. They keep martial weapon proficiency. The unarmed probably should just be left as a way to attack nearby when using a polearm.

A good unarmed class also tends to need extra feats- either to let them grab a style, or let them cover other things while they spend their normal feats on a style. Paladins get no feats. (suggested styles are often pummeling style, for pseudo pounce, or outslug, for good reach/movement that allows you to hit things 20' away).
