Death Ward

If a character protected by this spell gets hit with a wraith's incorporeal touch, would the character still be affected by the wraith's Con drain on a failed Fortitude save?

Constitution Drain: Creatures hit by a wraith’s touch attack must succeed on a Fortitude save or take 1d6 points of Constitution drain.

The language of the Constitution Drain suggests the wraith only needs to hit the creature to activate this ability, whereas Death Ward would negate the negative energy damage from that same incorporeal touch attack.

I see the attack as doing two things at the same time vs the con drain happening only if the negative energy damage takes place.
Death Ward doesn't stop the touch from happening. If the con drain said "if the opponent takes damage.....", that would be different.

The general assumption for effects is if the creature negates the damage from the effect, the creature isn't subject to additional effects from that attack (such as DR negating the damage from a poisoned weapon, which means the creature isn't subject to the poison).
