Whoa. I just actually read what Animal Ally is. First off there's a feat tax: Nature Soul. Then you've gotta be level 4 and have no Animal Companion or Mount special feature.

However, its 2 feats and bam - Animal Companion. 3 feats and full character level Animal Companion.

I know that's a LOT of feats to give up... but imagine that on a buff-focused Wizard? Said wizard has a Familiar with the Valet archetype that, by 7th level when this build finally comes fully online can move before and after delivering a non-damaging Touch spell (buff spell on AC) or before and after using Aid Another.

The familiar would also share Teamwork feats so that at higher levels the familiar is your defensive buddy while your tiger or whatever unleashes your damage.

If you like that idea a sylvan wildblooded sorcerer might be something you want to play. Spells like flash forward or telekinetic charge, with quicken true strike become hilarious with a pouncing tiger.

Sorry, I hope Im not bothering people with all my posts about diferent character ideas. I always have a hard time making up my mind, so I toss arround a lot of ideas, Ask for tips and sugestions online, and discuss it with my party and GM and repeat over and over for various ideas, Untill the time comes when I must make the character, And then I try to quickly make up my mind about my ideas.. xD I cant make up my mind in good time, Because if I do, If I'm compleately sure i'l play something, Then two or three days later I'm changing my mind and pondering ideas again, Untill the time comes to make the character, Then I go through my many ideas and pick one to play.

No worries Professor M. 2 things: first, your frequent requests and musings keep all us board lurkers on our game. Thought experiments like this are ideal creativity boosters so honestly we should thank you!

Second, have you ever considered designing your own adventures? You wouldn't have to decide on ONE character - you could put 'em ALL into play as villains!

Think about it: you want to make a challenge for 4 characters, APL = 3. A hard fight for these PCs would be a CR 6.

Take the build I pitched for a spellcaster with a familiar and an Animal Companion and tweak it: Kobold Adept 7/Warrior 2. He's got level 1 and 2 spells, flies on a mauler flying familiar (try the swooping dinosaur one!) while his giant lizard races in and devours the party. For feats he's got Nature Soul, Evolved Familiar: Improved Damage (Bite), Animal Ally, Boon Companion, and Spell Focus: Necromancy.

The caster buffs his animal up as much as he can and then lets the thing loose while flying on his mauler. Said familiar swoops down and delivers a decent Bite attack, maybe also buffed. Meanwhile the caster unleashes Fear spells to send heroes packing, preferably when they're in melee range w/one of his pets!

2 people marked this as a favorite.

One of my earliest RPG memories is of a ranger on a rhino. He shot everything in sight, and later, when the rogue couldn't pick a lock, just crashed right through the wall next to it and starting stacking up evil cultists on the horn.

I would not be able to manage building my own adventure or GMing.. Atleast not yet, I'm still very very new to Pathfinder, And havent played much tabletop before either.. And I dont handle stress very well..

This sounds awesome. I'm now changing my vote to a goblin riding a t-rex.

Sorcerers have terrible BAB.

If you don't like Nature Fang Druid (which I think is the best option in this case), go Cleric of Erastil with Animal[Feather]/Eagle domain. You get proficiency with longbows, full casting, 3/4 BAB, a Roc animal companion and a Hawk familiar.

Feats:
1- Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot
3- Rapid Shot (or Deadly Aim)
5- Boon Companion
7- Deadly Aim (or Rapid Shot)
9- Manyshot
11- Clustered Shot

Different Suggestion:

Have you considered a Promethean Alchemist with a Homunculus companion? You can have a Bow Wielding Homun with an Alchemist as a pet or a Bow/Crossbow Wielding Alchemist with a Homun as a pet.

Perry sure this was a brief non-archer side track. As they wanted a build to deliver touch attacks from a mount.

My son has a ratfolk hunter with a T-Rex. Quite the damage dealers, those two. He too went with archery.

Another option is a sanctified slayer ravener hunter inquisitor. Use the lunar mystery with the primal companion revelation (you can get a tiger). Sanctified slayer gives up judgement, but you get unlimited study enemy per day and keep bane.

Numerous inquisitors have been mentioned, the one you recommend is a great choice, but the op expressed that he did not want to play an inquisitor.

I was thinking of playing a Druidzilla character who spends her time Wildshaped into a Triceratops, a Pterasaur, or something. Then she takes the Leadership Feat and has a Human Cohort, I was thinking a Heavily-Armored martial character with a Lance, but an Archer would work just as well.

So, I'm thinking this would be the awesomist pet of all: the PC is the Pet, and the rider/hunter is his Human Companion!

One time, I was playing a Half-Ogre Warpriest, and we came to a locked door, and I brightly announced, "I pick the lock (with my Earthbreaker)!" Everybody laughed.

I didn't read through the whole thread. Another option I was looking at was a Samsaran Ranger (Ilsurian Archer) 1/Druid (Nature Fang) x.

Samsaran allows you to add (Inquisitor) - Divine favor, heroism, named bullet, etc to your spell list. The one thing about this build is you have to take druid at level 1, so no bow at first level.

Ilsurian archer gets you weapon proficiency and bullseye shot, which is great at low levels. You will take erastil's blessing to get WIS to hit and deadeye bowman (trait to ignore cover). Nature fang gets you extra feats to get up to speed on archery.

They are a lot of fun.

For this build, if you can somehow squeeze in Combat Stamina, you get the option to spend 5 Stamina to use Bullseye Shot as a Swift Action.

By the way, DON'T go single-class Illsurian Archer. In addition to trading out Ranger spellcasting, it seems somewhat underwhelming more generally.
