Bloodrager Undead Bloodline: Untouchable Rager or Spelleater?

Advice

So I'm not sure which of these I would like better with my Undead bloodline bloodrager. We are running in Rise of the Runelords if that helps. So far this is what I have:

Untouchable Rager with Undead
Pros: 1) I lose the spells from Undead, which suck anyway. 2) I gane SR 32 eventually. Not bad.

Cons: I lose the spellcasting abilities of Bloodrager. I'm kind of okay with this. I'd rather be smacking things with my Thunder and Fang (Shoanti barbarian).

Spelleaster with Undead
Pros: 1) Gain Fast Healing (my DM has ruled that the level 20 DR 8 increase of Undead will give me DR 8 while not raging, and convert to Fast Healing 14 (8+6 from spelleater) while raging. 2) Ability to use spells to heal during rage.

Cons: 1) Loss of DR outside of rage until 20. 2) Not having SR from Untouchable which is a huge defensive thing to resist mind-controlling effects that could turn me on the party.

I guess it boils down to what would be better survivability? Awesome DR outside of rage, with supreme fast healing during OR SR to reduce chance I turn on the party?

I had also tinkered with the idea of Crossblooded for Aberrant and Undead, but I don't think I can pass up the SR or FH. Unless someone has an uber build they can suggest with that.

Thanks everyone!

Most the Community here thinks Spell resistance is more a hindrance than a Help. Hurts when a healer wants to drop a heal spell on you and cannot break your SR.

So Spell eater. It also is one of my favorite Archetypes. You should now ask your GM/DM if they consider the Fast Healing you receive from Blood of Life as an EX or SU fast healing. Paizo does has not graced us with a FaQ on it. So it is up to Table rulings on this. Then let me know what he says. If he is in the SU boat then you have a lot going for you with spelleater.

In the Advanced Class Guide it does say Su, so that's how he has ruled it. What niceties come with that?

The Feat Fast Healer applies to it. Which can boost the fast healing to add Half your Con. If you keep spellcasting the spell A. Barrier (2nd level spell) turns 5 points of lethal damage into non-lethal. Lethal and non-lethal damage is healed in equal amount. So fast healing 3 become fast healing 6 basically. It can accelerate the fast healing.

You can actually cast stoneskin as a bloodrager so you can have both fast healing and DR.

If you can pick up a familiar you can get a protector familiar for a shield other effect taking half the damage for you. Which lucky for you the Familiar Folio allows you to trade your Level 1 power for a familiar...which you should do and take Protector archetype. I like the hedgehog for +2 will saves.

Here is a guide I made for the bloodrager. Most do not like it since it is not color coordinated like most other guides. Lord forbid someone does something different and ask your readers to read what you wrote. I digress...anyways it has a lot of info pertaining to bloodrager as well as in favor of Blood of Life being ruled SU over EX.

Also, there are a few builds at the bottom to glean off of. All 3 have been tested and do rock face.

Thank you so much for the thorough response :) And the link as well. I'll read through everything once I get up. Have a great day!

Okay, I couldn't wait to get up and read this. WOW! Just, wow! Well done on all the research. I was totally going to go Undead because I liked the flavor, but I was debating Aberrant, and you've sold me on that. I'll still ask, though, since my DM said the level 20 Undead ability for gaining DR 8 will give me DR 8 out of rage, and convert to Fast Heal 8 in rage, would that be better or worse than having the Aberrant Familiar with the Protective Archetype?

I figure, 15 starting Con, +1 level up, and +4 item, +2 raging vitality, +4 raging, I'll have Fast Healing 10 while raging with all factors considered.

With his ruling on Undead I'd have Fast Healing 18. Would that offset the 50% health boost from the familiar (and save me a feat)?

Thanks again for such an awesome guide! The lack of coloration is just fine btw.

You can force most Bloodrager bloodlines to work for you. Especially if you have access to the primal Archetype.

Remember in the Familiar Folio as I mentioned you can easily trade out your level 1 power for a protector familiar. It is up to you. Shaken is a nice condition to use a Cruel weapon with. But I tend to not like to charge without pounce or spirited charge. But that is up to you. I choose to keep the Level 1 power on Aberrant because the feat for a Tumor familiar exists which has fast healing itself while merged with you. But on most other bloodlines like Arcane, I trade away Level 1 power without hesitation.

As for the House rule, your GM is giving you to undead. You have to wait till 20 and Do you expect to reach that level and how many games at 20th level do you expect? I try not to rely on getting capstone abilities because it takes so long to get there. I try to just make builds that remain strong across all my levels of play. Some things are looked forward to of course but usually, I tend to have all the tools I need by level 9 where everything else is just pure gravy.

Anyways I hope you enjoy your character and whatever you decide to go with. Just let me know if you need any more help.

I think I have everything I need now. Thanks again so much! Cheers!
