Multiclassing rules clarification.

It's unclear what you gain from taking a 1 level dip into a new class. Multiclassing defines you get class abilities and class features of the new class, along with skill points, stamina and hit points, saves, and BAB. Unfortunately, class abilities are not a defined thing in Starfinder (ie no glossary term or appearing in the class section of he core rulebook)

This may have been an over site when the section was written, but when taking the new class level do you gain the proficiencies and class skills of the new class? The later maybe simpliy answered by the definition of class skills, but proficiencies are definitely in question as written.

It is the same as in Pathfinder.

Where in Starfinder or FAQ does it explicitly say this?

Precedence does not make it right or wrong. However, I would welcome the change to not get the class skills and proficiencies to limit the one level dip

I think you are way off the rails with this question, and its clearly and concisely worded to be interpreted as Gary Bush said.

However, if you want even more proof that you get everything when multiclassing, including proficiencies, then I would draw your attention to the Weapon Specialization ability that every single class gets at 3rd level.

Weapon Specialization (Ex) 3rd Level
You gain Weapon Specialization as a bonus feat for each weapon type this class grants you proficiency with.

Kinda pointless if you dont get those proficiencies. It doesnt say you get these UNLESS you are multiclassing. It says you get Specilization with all the weapons this class GRANTS YOU PROFICIENCY WITH.

Is it clear yet?

The starting proficiencies are different for each class. Thus, they must be first-level class features.

Yes you get them for each class that you take at least one level in. And then at 3rd level you get specialization in them as well. Just as the book clearly states.

Class features are CLEARLY defined in Starfinder.

First, the English etymology is pretty clear. "Class Features" refers to "the features of the class." That's pretty much everything the class has to offer.

The game rules also makes this pretty clear, as all of a class's class features are listed on their respective class table, under the column header, "Class Features."

Not sure how it can get much clearer than that.

If you want to see how it can get unclear look at the threads discussing the rule for starship combat that says you can't use class features. You'll see lots of interpretations of what is now no longer a class feature in that context.

I do agree that the RAI is that multiclassing functions the way it did in Pathfinder whatever the RAW is.
