Hunter Class bonus for Half-elf

Rules Questions

On the FCB it says "Add a 1 foot bonus to your Animal Companion's base speed. In combat, this has an effect only for every five increases."
So my question is How the heck is this applied??

Every 5 levels you took that class bonus your animal would be able to move an extra 5ft (1 square) in combat.

Would it be clearer if it said "+1/5 of a square of movement"?

Maybe, but the game primarily lists movement speeds in terms of feet, not squares.

I know, just offering an alternate phrasing that might help the current question be answered.

No because then people would have dumb questions about difficult terrain and whatever.

Your movement speed is in feet. It matters because armour and weight change that. So you can't just say "add on another square" when you may not get that square based on factors.

So it's feet. You take it 5 times and you get 5 feet of base movement. Usually a square.

. . . Because in Pathfinder, you can only move in multiples of 5' (which must be in the directions you can get with a traditional joystick).

OK thanks everyone.
