Free Clothes?

I remember that in Pathfinder, you got one free outfit worth <=10gp at character creation.

I am aware that this is a different game, but I want to double check as I put the finishing touches on my first character that there is or is not a similar rule in Starfinder.

In space, no one can hear you streak?

Technically, no one can ever hear you streak. They may hear your attention-demanding warcry or the screams of terrified onlookers, but not the actual streaking.

In the future, you get paper clothes unless you spend money on better?

Unless you streak fast enough to break the sound barrier?

Or you streak back and forward in a small space really really quickly

If you streak alone, do you truly streak?

Also, I think some of this discussion is definitely going into the Feat category...

The sound of streaking is bare feet slapping on the ground.

Drugs are a thing in the CRB (which I do not have at work with me today). Do they allow you to hear colors? Maybe you CAN hear someone streaking if you trip space-acid.

The new drug Syn is very popular. It induces synesthesia.

I think most forms of armor count as clothing. How many Starfinder PCs go around unarmored?

No sonic boom in space, no air to compress. No sound barrier either since no sound in space.

Well, there IS that thing called Second Skin. If someone's wearing that, they may as well be naked.

After taking a look at the actually equipment section, you probably can safely assume you have "everyday clothing" which is 1cr and confers no benefits beyond modesty.

That depends on what color you pick for it. If you wear a Second Skin with a color different from your own skin color, it is obvious that you are not naked.

Because SOMEONE went granular, we now have to deal with naked Starfinders because they're too cheap to buy clothing (!!!) or are displaying an exhibitionist ideal?

...please just give everyone a horrible set of bright orange coveralls if they don't want to buy a basic outfit.

Having free clothing does not imply the character is wearing them, neither does buying some. It’s the same in Pathfinder and most RPGs.

I just checked, every level 1 pregen has everyday clothing listed in their equipment.

I’ll have to remind players to buy clothing; I think I did for my characters.

But that would also be the sound of most halfling running across the ground... since they typically don't wear shoes... does that mean they are always streaking?

That's speciest!

It should be noted that professional clothing is cheap and adds to your day job checks. It pays for itself in two day job checks, IIRC (don't have the book in front of me), and then you start making a profit from owning them.

That's IF folks have day jobs.

That's a big 'if' in some cases with a possible dearth of skill points...

This particular type of organism, Murderous Hoborus, is said to be one of the oldest and most wide-spread subspecies in existence, having appeared in almost every culture and civilisation in every known star system for the past several millions of years.

It should not be possible for any Starfinder PC to have fewer than 3 skill points.

In the limited amount of scenarios we've had so far, Professions have been much more useful and flexible than nearly any PFS scenario I've played or run. Added onto the fact that you can flex them to whatever mental stat you have best (and there's no benefit to 777'ing in Starfinder) and taking 10 generally means you get 22 credits per scenario, there's much more reason to divert a single point to it, if not more.

Except you only get one downtime activity between each scenario, and rolling a day job is just one of the choices. Already there is one scenario that gives you a boon to do that takes 6 downtime activities to complete.

I didn't notice the professional clothing before. 5 credits for a +1 pays for itself in 2.5 rolls.

Interesting that formal wear is also cheap and instead of a bonus, everyone gets a penalty if they don't wear it to a formal event.

If I see any PCs with heavy armor but not clothes, I'll have them roll a Fortitude save vs. chafing!

It's too bad the Dagret’s Scalesheen Oil mentioned in one of the scenarios isn't on the chronicle sheet. As a Vesk, I would have a great counter argument to this!

That stuff is just snake oil.
