Hi all! I've been running a somewhat regular feature on a friend's blog (long-time poster Marikurion) called Frightful Fridays! (the exclamation point is obligatory)

I've been posting a Pathfinder monster every week (admittedly, there are some gaps here and there), and it will be celebrating its fifth anniversary this Halloween. To commemorate the occasion, I've been posting and will be posting a monster every day, counting up from CR 1/2 to CR 30.

Here are the first 5 monsters:

Heliumf (CR 1/2)
Kairuku (CR 1)
Arachanine (CR 2)
Lake Kaida (CR 3)
Polar Cat (CR 4)

I hope you'll check it out and follow along the rest of the month!

Love the Kairuku (spelling from memory, as it's been several minutes since I looked at the page.. lol)

Excellent. I hope you get some use out of the kairuku. It's not a mega-megafauna, but I don't think I'd be happy to see a human-sized penguin. :)

No, no, that's okay, I'll go.

Waddles off looking for a dandelion patch.

Next up: The CR 5 Grimthane

A construct that will turn PCs to gold is the next monster up on the blog.

Check out the CR 6 goldipillar

Oh deer! Today’s monster is the CR 7 Capreolinal Agathion

The hits keep coming, especially with the CR 8 Kinetic Giant

Another day, another monster.

Meet the CR 9 Glom Slug

The CR 10 Dragonhead Caterpillar gets its turn.

The CR 11 Orc Furybeast is not happy to meet you.

Friday the 13th brings one of the more messed up monsters I’ve worked on: CR 12 Slurryfish

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I really, really like the Grimthane and the Slurryfish. The latter is downright creepy. I dig it.

The CR 14 Devil's Egg Fungus just wants to eat your characters and shoot spores around. That's all.

That's some good stuff right there!

Ack! I just realized I should have listed this as CR 13.

The CR 1/2 monster is causing "off by 1" errors. :)

Next up is a self-appointed guardian of planar travel: the CR 14 Byway Crab

The CR 15 Great Wight Shark reminds you to stay away from the water.

I'm going to favorite just for the pun, and then wish I could again for the nostalgia I get from said pun. A friend has a great story about a party getting asked to deal with the 'white' dragon up on a mountain and wondering why fireball didn't hurt the albino wight red dragon. :)

EDIT: Holy %#*€ that thing is nasty! Especially since most adventurers aren't ready for underwater combat!

Yeah, he does good work!

I really like the wight dragon story. That’s awesome!

There’s no escaping the CR 16 Ineluctable Quarryhound

I like it a lot, though the name reminds me of the titles of 2e Forgotten Realms spells. Personally, I think "Quarryhound" alone works. But aside from my minor quibble, it's a great monster!

I’m glad you like the monster!

I admit I was a little self-indulgent with the name. :)

The first ooze creeps into the anniversary event. Take a look at the CR 17 Terrorooze

Shadow Lodge

That is creepy. I love the group naming(it fits wonderfully) and the little bit at the end about barbarian tribes. This is a well fleshed out monster.

The CR 18 Cavern Pseudoscorpion is a fairly straightforward beastie, but, in my defense, I have a couple of weird ones lined up for later.

The CR 19 Verdant Rex is a dinosaur-shaped killing machine.

I'm generally against using dinosaurs in my games, but this is great!

Scarab Sages

Immune to fire? Oh Verdant Rex, you monster!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say a druid decided to leaf conventional "nature" and branched out into vegetable/saurian hybrids. To root out the evils of civilization and lumberjacks.

You need to be punished for that.

Shadow Lodge

A punitive punishment?

The CR 20 Killduo Guardian only has worse sides.

The CR 21 Cheryllian is for my wife, Cheryl, for our 27th anniversary. It’s a much nicer monster than the others so far in the run. :)

Scarab Sages

Now that is a good doggo.

Today's monster, the CR 22 Unpossibulp, was very much inspired by the image associated with it.

Quite!

I repurposed the little weirdo.

As my campaign nears its end, I'm going to have to use at least one of your higher CR critters in it.

I would love to hear how it goes. :D

The CR 23 Waveform Kaida is the protector of order in the universe. It probably won’t get along with most parties. :)

Say hello to the CR 24 Giant Hallucigenia Worm!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I've been waiting for this.

Get swept up by the CR 25 Mistwhale.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The CR 26 Razor Trilobite Beetle works as a ginsu chef in its spare time.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

The CR 27 Ashen Goliath is the first undead monster to make an appearance for the month-long monster fest.

The CR 28 Treewretch brings the pain.
