Using Roll20 for maps in a PbP

Does anyone do it? I am fond of Roll20 for things like sight lines / lighting, range checking, and the like. I am looking at getting into GMing PbP games and was thinking of using Roll20 for the combat maps instead of google docs.

Hi Tony!

: waves :

There are some people who do it. I prefer google slides because they are more mobile friendly, and I have had lots of PBP players who only use a phone for posting. Still there is no reason why you could not use Roll20. I have to admit that the sight lines and lighting are pretty nifty. So long as you clear it with your group to make sure that everyone can move their counters, I think it would be fine.

Hmm

I suppose if I put in my recruitment that I am using it and no one signs up, I'll know. ;-)

Also, I can't seem to find a recent post or anything in your PbP toolkit folder (which is awesome, btw!) about how to deliver chronicles. Is there a preferred and/or simplest method?

A lot of people deliver them via Google Drive, but email is sometimes used as well.

PDF? JPG? Does it matter?

Image format doesn't matter. PDF is useful for a consistency of printing, but isn't required.

To address R20 vs Google Drawings / Slides (as a second voice) R20 has some improved features and use it for VTT games, but I much prefer using Google for a PbP game. It makes it a lot easier to check when I'm not at home.

I used to do JPG, but some of my players complained about the ink usage when printing. Now I do PDFs and trust the players not to edit them.

I would prefer to use Roll20 for maps, but Slides has the benefit of archiving changes, so I can step back through to see what actions were taken when. Especially useful if multiple people make edits between your viewings of the map.

You can flatten a PDF so that it not editable. That is recommended practice. In Adobe Reader, you do that by adding a signature and then saving. That makes is completely not editable, so you shouldnt do it until finished!

Will have to explore that option tonight, thanks!
