How to identify Core from Standard

Pathfinder Society

Grand Lodge

Hello everybody,

After looking at the 2 games I signed up for this weekend, I noticed one of the sessions (PFS 4-01: Rise of the Goblin Guild) has been designated clearly as core campaign, therefore I can only use rules and features from the core rulebook and other specified resources.

The other scenario (PFS 0-13: The Prince of Augusta) has not been designated as a core campaign.

Am I to assume that any scenario that's not designated as core, is a standard scenario?

Is there a list of core and standard scenarios that I can quickly refence to make sure I'm using the correct materials for generating characters?

This might help

There’s no such thing as a core scenario. Core is a campaign mode as described in the link above. So you’re not looking for specific scenario numbers, you’re looking for scenarios identified (as you saw) as being run in core mode.

It should be the same scenarios. The choice should be the GM's on whether to designate them Core or Standard.

Dunno how you sign up for sessions, but for me, our 3rd party sign ups only include the "Core" sticker if it's Core and there is no "Standard" sticker. And the sticker isn't in a good spot, so we often get people confused and having to play pregenerated characters because they don't have a Core character built.

guide for newbies.

I should add something about core/non core.

Core campaign is the players handbook only. Its lowered power (or rather there are a lot fewer game breaking builds, because there are a lot fewer builds). Core races only

The regular campaign has everything that's PFS legal, which is 90+ percent of Pathfinder material. Core races, Kitsune, Nagaji, tengu, wayang the elemental races (oread slyph ondine ifreet)

Your local scene MIGHT vary a lot, but there are a LOT more standard games than core in most places.

If you're making your first character and don't mind other characters doing things you don't understand i'd go with standard. If you have a character in mind that uses anything outside of the core rulebook, you'll have to go standard.

I cannot stress this enough: you cannot convert back and forth between the campaigns. Your core character can hop into standard ONCE. Once a character has been played in standard they're locked out of core.
