Asking feedback on my one-off for colleagues

Advice

Hello,

As the title says I'm doing a one off for colleagues most of them that are not familiar with D&D. I once ran a game as a DM and had a session that I got good feedback on. It involved the players in a house getting ambushed by the furniture. I've revamped that adventure, written out the adventure & created some characters and I wanted to see if I could get some nice ideas/feedback from the people on this forum. It's still a work in progress, so forgive me for insane CR's or gimped characters.

“A dispatch of the Church of Iomedae has been sent out to investigate the disappearance of High Master Greywald and escort him back safely. The old man hasn’t been seen or heard from in some months, so our heroes are sent to the village of Sandpoint where he is known to take up residence.

The manor is modest but stately, and separated from its surrounding buildings by a garden and a large iron fence. The door is strangely unlocked, so the party enters the manor, expecting to discover the fate of Master Greywald..”

LOWER FLOOR

Thick cobwebs cloak the ceiling and hang down the walls like gossamer tapestries. A single staircase leads up at the northern wall.

Entrance
• Letter by the master providing some clues.
• Storage for coats and hats.

Grand room
• Table and chairs standing on an ornate carpet.
o The table is a > small animated object template, the carpet a > small animated object with constrict, the chairs > 2 tiny animated objects.
• Shelves with assorted sundries line the walls.

Fireplace
• A comfortable looking chair stands in front of the fireplace, together with a foot stool.
o The table is a > small animated object template, the stool 1 tiny animated object

Kitchen
• A large cast iron stove stands cold and unattended in the corner.
o The stove is a > medium animated object, maybe with burn.
• A large shelf of kitchen ware stand beside it.
o The kitchen ware is a > swarm of some kind.

Storage
• Rats eating stored meat and cheese

Staircase
• A darkwood staircase leads up to the masters bedroom no doubt
o Walking up the stairs springs to life the furniture, and throws the person walking it off (athletics check DC). Also the doors and windows slam closed and are impossible to open. Amongst the furniture to come to life is the carpet. Under it lies a trapdoor that needs a key.

UPPER FLOOR

Hallway
• Hallways both left and right are adorned by two suits of decorative armor covered in cobwebs.
o Some of the > suits of armor are an enemy of some kind. Maybe just roll a fighter?

Study
• Study is a mess of uneaten food and books stacked haphazardly upon each other
• Maybe a clue from the master, also a bunch of scrolls and potions here.

Bathroom
• A large round room with a pool near the end.

Master bedroom
• A simple one person bed adorns the wall to the side. Two large windows with thick curtains on the left. A grand piano stands in the center of the room, with the key on top of it.
o The > Dire Piano is a mini-boss for this adventure, with the ability to swallow whole.

BASEMENT

Corridor
• The trapdoor leads to a basement corridor that spreads three ways.

Storage room
• A storage room holds decomposing barrels and has been made into a nest by a nasty critter, I think a > carrion crawler.

Summoning circle
• A circular room with glyphs drawn upon the floor. Some > undead (zombies maybe) stand on guard and attack the party. Searching this room reveals a secret door that offers a shortcut to the altar room (with a surprise chance on the boss).

Altar room
• The altar room is where the necromancer lives that plans to sacrifice the master to his dark gods. The door to the altar room is guarded by an > undead (maybe skeleton). Inside are three more > undead minions. If the party takes them head on, after a few turns the necromancer joins the fight. Entering trough the secret passage way might negate the skeletons from the fight.
• The master is tied up on the altar. Saving him wins the scenario.

I've shared the characters and maps I've made in a google drive folder if you're interested >>> https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1iMRiPbf-qYbmxpQXljYkp0UUU

Thanks!

Alternate ending: High Master Greywald is a lycanthrope. Only by finding true love can he reverse the curse and restore the animated objects back to their original human forms.

I think you just stole that from a Disney movie.

But yeah, obvious reference aside, I wan't to keep it a bit light for the people.

Player level should be around 3, but I don't know the amount of people. Is it easy to scale up CR on the fly?

Always. Just add Advanced template or increase the number of creatures.
Your silverware swarm would be easy enough. Just make an animated fork and then apply the Swarm template.

I really like your rooms! Gave me an idea for a dressing room/wardrobe full of Mannequins... which obviously come to life like animated object zombies! Possibly a Cloaker?
