Spell that lets you cast two spells and then choose based on the results.

I'm trying to remember the name of the spell that lets you cast two spells, see the results, then choose which one you had cast.

I think you're referring to the Temporal Divergence spell from Legacy of the First World.

Link to Temporal Divergence

That is one ultra-powerful 7th level spell -- combine this with 2 spells that are Save Or Be Hosed, and put Persistent Spell on each of those -- your targets aren't going to save unless they have insanely high Saving Throws. Now, you could make the argument that you would in many cases be better off just casting a Quickened Persistent Spell and then a Persistent Spell -- EXCEPT that you don't need to worry about how to pay for and/or mitigate the cost of the Quicken Spell, AND it works with 9th level spells (or 7th level Persistent Spells, even if you have no way to pay for or mitigate the cost of Persistent Spell).

Also good when you don't know whether teleporting in somewhere will have immediate nasty consequences. Or if your GM has a tendency to twist wishes.

Yes, although in the case of Wish, I wonder i you can cast 2 different applications of the same spell (like Wish) as the 2 spells used with Temporal Divergence. Even if you had to pay the tax of preparing Wish twice(*), that's still really good.

(*)Not sure how that would work for a spontaneous spellcaster, so if you could do this at all, you probably wouldn't have this tax. But just in case . . . .

Holy cow! I'm house-ruling that to be a 9th level spell at my table.

It also serves to check for immunities, double check against spell res, and reroll any other checks in the spell(dispel magic). I would still hesitantly call it fair due to it cutting off 2 spells actually being cast per round

^When you get high enough level, you can use it to try out 2 9th level spells(*) for the price of a 9th level spell and a 7th level spell.

(*)Or lower level spells with Metamagic on them bumping them up to 9th level cost.

Yes, making this a 9th level spell sounds about right. Alternatively, only allow it to work on spells of the same or lower level than itself (and you can use Heighten Spell to bump it up to work on higher level spells).

Yup that the one. Thanks all. :)
