So I've created a couple of ideas for Starfinder Pop Culture and would love to hear other peoples ideas...

The Nautalist
Originally started as the personal work vlog of Murfnor Nevidmith, an engineer assigned as the Safety & Quality Assurance Officer on Ringworks Industries new prototype Coral-class medium freighter the Nautalist, the reality show of the same name follows the unorthodox exploits of the crew from the point of view of the very by the book engineer. When the original crew was captured by pirates and then rescued by a ragtag collection of freelance trouble shooters, Ringworks Industries gifted the ship to the Murfnor’s rescuers on the condition that he continue on as the company representative in his original capacity and shortly afterwards the company’s marketing department spun Murfnor’s work vlog off as an adventure/comedy show that is much loved in the Pact Worlds. The long suffering Murfnor, who’s often heard line “That is not the intended use for that item,” is marketing on torso covers (t-shirts), comms tones and other merchandise and the exposure has helped make the Coral-class freighter a successful product line for Ringworks Industries.

Elves in Space

A scripted drama following the exploits of xenoarcheologist Nevista Marbletree and her team of researchers as they attempt to uncover elven history during the Gap and who might be the great betrayor of their race. The show ran into serious trouble early on for its use of illusion and transmutative magics to allow elves to portray drow on the show. The Anti-Drow Defamation Defense (ADDD) launched boycotts, and eventually drow began to be cast on the show to portray drow parts and writers began to write supposedly more balanced representations of the dark elves. The largest onset drama is between Benina Yonder (the actress who portrays Nevista Marbletree) and the lead drow actress Melinar Evista, although current rumors speculate that the rivalry is all for show, as the two have been seen in secret encounters that are best described as romantic.

Serverik the Edge

Celebrated vesk Honor Poet, Serverik has survived 23 combat poetry contests with only the loss of his right eye and 5 inches of his tail (both since replaced with cybernetic components). Critics are concerned that after his last bout that damage to his right hand may impair his post combat calligraphies, but originals from his earlier bouts have been known to command 100s of thousands of credits, while pay per view broadcasts of the combat poetry contests themselves bring in millions on each world they are shown on

Thanks,

Hoverderby

A popular sport on many worlds because of its understandably attractive combination of women, controlled violence, and height-based danger, hoverderby is played on gravity skates. The goal is for the jammer (point-scoring player) to complete laps of the three-dimensional track during a two-minute play called a "jam," with the assistance of their blockers while preventing the other team's jammer from doing the same. Hoverderby skaters are sometimes called "rollergirls," a holdover from a time when a nearly-identical sport was played on unpowered roller skates, presumably on vanished Golarion. SLAMashtu, the star skater of the Absalom Hover Derby League (AHDL), is said to be a member of the Starfinder Society. However, she always skates in full holographic facepaint, making it difficult to discern her true identity.

Star Ship Racing 9000!
Exactly as it sounds. Some of the best star ship pilots in the system get into tiny single maned star ships and race each other for fame and fortune. Now while these ships do lack weapons of any kind, they are equipped with the fastest engines available, making them more akin to piloted missiles than actual proper star ships. Combined with dangerous courses (popular courses include the asteroid belt and the many moons of Bretheda), sabotage, pre-placed obstacles, and pilots actively trying to run each other into hazards, people watch not only to see who wins but to see how many deaths their are.

Xeno Love Cruise
Par competition, part reality TV, part comedy, Xeno Love Cruise takes lonely individuals from all over the System, puts them onto a single luxury cruise ship and puts them all together. Currently running its 50th season, fans watch the show to see who will fall in love, which hearts will be broken, and who will fight who. Piloted by the esteemed and very popular Captain James. T. Kirk, who acts as host, narrator, lover, and agitator all in one.

My personal favorite idea I came up with from this thread.

By far the most popular sport in the Pact Worlds is a game called Wizardball. It's played in a 0-G arena with teams of 5 players and 1 ball that starts in the center that the players have to move through a ring to score points. There is 1 hard-and-fast rule: players cannot touch the ball with their physical bodies. They can only move it using supernatural powers and spells. Most players are mystics and technomancers, though there are a few players who have spontaneously developed psychic powers that play as well (reading an opponent's mind to figure out their strategy is totally legit). Famous wizardball players can become famous Icons in the Pact Worlds, with fans falling all over themselves to help their home team's star player.

Did The Nautalist maybe start on a music trivid station and perhaps is it blamed for said station's move away from its original mission of showing nothing but music programming 24/7?

Shirren Improvisational Drama

A Shirren acting company performs dramatic plays all over the Pact Worlds and is famous for its actors deciding to change or invent lines, plots and characters on the fly. Wildly popular because each performance is entirely differnet.

Tailored Haste is an icon technomancer renown for her stunning illusion-powered concert shows fueling the latest Disco craze while moving about the stage with effortless speed. Her romantic dalliances often become song material.

Sting Krushee is a vesk swooner with surprising talent as an actor, dancer and singer. His tail work is considered especially remarkable. It is a persistent, unconfirmed rumor that he has both a wyrm dragon gland and a venom spur in the tip of his magnificent tail. Think of his tail in the same vein (for vesk) as some view "longest legs".

Thanks, Murfnor Nevidmith is my idea of what a LN straight man (in the comedy sense) to a bunch of CN "adventurers" would look like in Starfinder. Definitely an NPC or character concept I plan on using if I get the chance.

Some other ideas I have are...

The Trans-Solarian Orchestra

This musical act, based out of a bubble city on the sun, has 4 touring groups that each cover 2 worlds and various smaller locations. Heavily influenced by both Sarenraeian and Zon-Kuthonian musical style, the Orchestras tour for half a year in two cycles, the Light and the Dark. Each cycle has four acts, with one act being retired and replaced each year, creating continually evolving and changing experiences for fans. Acts alternate between celestial/cosmic themes and personal stories that follow the philosophies of their particular cycle. The majority of fans enjoy experiencing both cycles, but there are diehard fans (Flares for the Light/Eclipses for the Dark) that prefer one cycle over the other.

DigiDrugs

These single-use, self-erasing pieces of code are designed to duplicate the effects of common drugs on technological sentients and those with exocortex or datajacks. Sophisticated anti-virus protocols quickly make each batch obsolete, requiring coders to constantly update their techniques and create new versions of each DigiDrug. For this reason there are literally hundreds of thousands of different versions of these codes extant. Dedicated abusers keep careful tract of which versions numbers they have used, since each rarely works more than once on any individual. (All a just versions of regular drugs with Type: drug (upload))

Sensation

Under the masterful guidance of Chef Xillkar Vernak, Sensation has become one of the hottest dining locations on Absalon Station. Recently awarded its second Nova by the Pact Worlds Gastronomical Society (PWGS), Chef Vernak has made a big splash in trans-world fusion cuisine. Its Castrovel Salad with Akiton mineral dusting infused with rare Brethadan gas mixtures is currently going for 300 credits a plate. Chef Vernak is a generous patron to its produce procurement specialists, although its exacting demands in quality lead to frequent turnover (some due to disagreements, other due to death during procurement).

The Sqibble

The hottest must have pet/toy for the under 10 set. Parents are going nuts trying to acquire these hot selling items for their darling urchins. These bioengineered gelatinous oozes from the Sopeth Corporation secret extremely mild, non-addictive compounds that increase focus in pre-adolescents along with a mild euphoric. Additionally, Squibbles vibrate at frequency that most children find comforting and gather all its nutritional requirements from the dead skin, sweat and oils it absorbs from casual contact with is owner. The Sopeth Corporation has had difficulty in adapting Squibbles to the frequently fluctuating biochemistry of adolescents and most young teens abandon their Squibbles once they hit puberty. The Sopeth Corporation has vigorously pursued legal actions against the few news agencies that have pursued reporting on abandoned Squiggles that have supposedly gone feral.

For some reason I can't edit my original post, but I would change the first line of Elves in Space to read "This long running, incredibly popular and tawdry soap opera follows the exploits of xenoarcheologist Nevista Marbletree and her team of researchers as they attempt to uncover elven history during the Gap and who might be the great betrayor of their race."

Who will have the ultimate cuisine?

I was thinking about this last night. Was building characters for giggles and made a halfling envoy icon. I wanted him to be a famous vidgame player. Was trying to think of the game and thought of a remote controlled single seat ship that flys a course in space as the controller moves the ship using VR. This way less deaths and accidents and it could be a vidgame. Have a circuit the players go through with courses on numerous pact world planets. I wanted my halfling to have a race team with a mechanic for the ship and the halfling to have an agent and sponsorship from Abdacorp or other companies

The PATHFINDERS of YESTERYEAR

A trivid comic series that depicts (usually hilariously campy) (mis-)adventures of the ancestors of the Starfinder Society, produced by the Society itself as a PR/'edutainment' campaign based on some of the few confirmed/confirmable records they can find of pre-Triune Golarion. The acting would embarrass a community theatre troupe, but anyone with a communicator has a free subscription as part of a deal with the Society. If you can filter out the blatant product placement the narrators use to fund the series, and the bad acting, it's not a terrible way to learn about human history.

PHS Presents:

A series of trivid presentations by the Pactworld Historical Society named for the title card before the actual presentation's title. Each presentation is curated by the Society, but is produced, recorded, and submitted by authorities in the field. The Society has a standing open call for presentations, and will occasionally put out a call for something specific. They're known for being meticulous about only allowing a program through if it's as historically accurate as can be managed with current records as of the date it was released, and they've been known to pull a program days before it was set to air and put something in its place if they need extra time to verify, though mistakes and misunderstandings have happened, and a couple of de-authorised programs still manage to make their way to the public. The Society generally doesn't mind these being out there so long as the title card is removed, and they charge only 20 credits per three hour production to download an episode. Schools across the Pactworlds often have libraries of these videos on hand for when educators need unplanned sick time.

Example:
The production Absalom Station would have a title card "The Pactworld Historical Society presents: Absalom Station" and then would continue to the actual recorded production, a collection of stories told by museum staff from the station dealing with the foundation of the station from records that can be found and trusted, as well as anecdotes and records from AG0-date of production.

And for the musically inclined: Sanna Sjönsdotter, a human woman with a mezzo-soprano voice noted for her waifish appearance and her heart-wrenching ballads of lost worlds out in the stars. She doesn't do many concerts, as her fans typically prefer being alone while listening so as to let the emotions wash over them, but she produces some singles as full trivids complete with an artistic rendition of the song's subject, usually in pallets of muted blues and greens.

Blood War

An RTS featuring demons and devils fighting each other for...some reason. There's a main character, a cambion, vying for the love of a marilith. It's mostly about the gameplay, and the sweet, sweet e-sports money.

Choose-your-own-adventure stories

Non-linear stories where the reader gets to choose how the plot advances. You already know what these are. Only 1-5 credits apiece, but they add up! Big with the Shirren, of course.

Anything to do with Iomedae

Because The 11 Acts of Iomedae is essentially an action-adventure story Iomedae has a notable pop culture presence. There's also Iomedae fanfiction and fanart...that can get as lurid as you think it does. The church doesn't condemn such works but does give critique, focusing not just on work quality but on life lessons taught.

Look at the professions. Both VidGamer and Video Personality (paraphrasing) are available, and are on the same list as things like accountant, lawyer, mathematician, etc.

This seems to imply that both e-sports and blogging are relevant in Starfinder entertainment.

A player in my game liked this so much that he's playing an Icon with VidGamer as his linked profession skill. He's also playing a Technomancer. I'm immediately thinking of e-sports tournaments in which all participants use magic to some degree to modify the game.

I'm not going to go into too much more detail because he's mentioned that he browses these forums, but it's something that has some potential as far as pop culture.

This weekly show presents a new myth, lost civilization, scientific theory or cultural phenomenon in a lurid docudrama style complete with lavish dramatizations performed by actors, interviews with experts in the episodes's topic and sometimes straight rumor mongering gathered from the best conspiracy Infosphere pages in an hour long format. Narrated by the beloved Ysoki trivid actor Sim Sadar, best known for playing the science officer of the starship Endeavor on the show of the same name.

And since people like the e-Sports idea so much...

With endorsements and prizes reaching six figures annually the rivalries are fierce and so is the action.

A popular genre of music throughout the Pact worlds is "Gob-Rock". Somewhat reminiscent to 80s hair rock, this music is popular in the poorer parts of the pact worlds, and often filled with subversive and rebellious messages.

One of the most popular bands is "Tanner and his Mother". Featuring the Ysoki singer "Scrab", and his merry band and routinely featuring alien instruments and melodies.

By far the most popular show in the Pact Worlds among the Shirren population is a game show called "Make That Choice!" In it, the contestant is presented with a choice of three items. Two of them (usually a new refrigeration unit, or brand new Comm Unit) are obvious, but the last one is 'quantum locked' in that it is chosen at random when the choice is picked.

The contestant must make a choice between these three items, and they are often known to spend the entire episode trying weigh the pros and cons of each item. Most species find this show boring, but there are Shirren who tune in every week.

By far the most well known episode was the 6 part episode where Hulinex had to choose between a small starship and a lifetime 'all you can eat' coupon for his favorite restaurant.

It was a truly agonizing choice that kept the Shirren communities enraptured and debating which he should choose. In the end, he went the Quantum Lock route and won a a new pair of boots.

All My Nanites is one of the most watched holovid soap operas in the Pact Worlds. The entire cast is made up of androids, and their flat affect means that they have to overact all the time to get any emotion across at all. Some viewers see the show as an intricate drama; others think that it's cheesy as heck but watch it to see what happens next anyway.

TBH I got bored and thought it would be fun to make a rapper goblin. Chobbe was talking about combat poetry, and that sparked this idea idk the golbin's stage name would be Breath attack or something just stupid along those lines. Anyways I'm not a rapper by any means irl so down below is just a mess of what might come out of this goblin's mouth.

Smashed your ship so damn fast, I sign my name in the ash,
so I'll be stated in your past. This vermin is sure that you better hide your cares and wares. I'm certain that I'm a creature of your nightmares. I plan to be in term whether you voted or not, I'm already placin' in the top spot. You say this small fry, green one, is easy then let's see what you got. Dog Slice the' even if you don't despise me. I said, dog slice the' even if they know I'm diplomacy. Even if they know this green one isn't going down without a show. Look'y here this mean one glows. I'm a stellar god, plucking wings off of butterflies you'll see their bodies in the stars. When the standards see me they say I won't go far, but basics will get blown away, I'm up here on stage spittin' bars.

The Life Amongst the Stars
A trid show hosted by the famous shirren xeno-druid Strvr'uin (and his rather scared and oft-exchanged cameraman), the premise follows him as he travels on newly discovered planets and investigates and (mostly) befriends new and exotic species. The popularity of the show, while dwindling in recent years, has suddenly spiked after the latest episode, which featured the following scene:

"The life here on Aucturn is truly, truly fascinating. Oh, would you look at that gorgeous creature! The spiked tendrils! The seven fanged maws! Would you just look at that magnificent trail of secretions, it seems to be corroding the very ground beneath it! I'm going to get closer, come on!"

Strvr'uin managed to completely regenerate himself via magic after the incident, and his cameraman was chiefly reincarnated after arrival of relief forces.

Starlight Rose

An incredibly popular vid-star and singing sensation, particularly well-known for turning his music videos from gravity-defying dance numbers to straight-up battles, while he uses his uniquely pink-violet solarion stellar abilities to make the fights "beautiful and grand." While particularly beloved by younger people for his message of hope, perseverance, and inner beauty, there are rumors that he is actually a defector from the Azlanti Star Empire. The fact that he has never revealed his navel combined with his oddly non-traditional arcane abilities make people suspect that he may be a former gem-studded Aeon Soldier, though these may very well just be rumors planted by his record company to make him seem more alluring.

Strvr'uin managed to completely regenerate himself via magic after the incident, and his cameraman was chiefly reincarnated after arrival of relief forces.

The Xeno Hunter

An educational nature show were the host, an Android named Steve Irwin, travels around the Galaxy, seeking out some of the most unusual and dangerous life in existence. He then proceeds to agitate the wild life until it gets angry, at which point the show often devolves into Steve running for his life from a very angry creature trying to eat and or kill him.

Legend has it that the soul that inhabits the Android came from a far away planet called Earth, were in a previous life Mr Irwin lived a similar life to what he does now. Seeking out exotic wild life and filming his adventures interacting with it.

Uh, I don't mean to be THAT GUY, but aren't these basically the same?
Great minds think alike?

You're probably right, especially since the Fearless Irwin was such a noble and kind man. Like a more excitable Mr. Rogers, but for animals.

Here's a pop culture idea:

The Technorcists

A horror trivid that's received high praise from critics for its spine-chilling musical score and cerebral exploration of the role of faith in an increasingly technological society. It follows a technomancer and a Pharasmin mystic who struggle to stop a demon disguised as a computer virus from taking over a space station's vital systems and preying on its inhabitants. Up-and-coming vesk actor Okabasisa delivers an especially terrifying performance as the voice of the demon, taunting the protagonists throughout the film, demonstrating a talent for conveying menace through only his words and not relying on his impressive vesk physique.

A smart host would stay in the studio, or when onsite, safely in an armored personnel carrier/mobile command center (ala Marlin Perkins). While he sips a nicely aged lashunta whisky, enjoys a fine dwarven cigar, and gets the lion's share of the acclaim, his co-host (ala Jim Fowler) would be out in the field wrasselin' with this episode's peril.

Space Battle

A series of vids about the fight against an Evil Empire. Episode 5 is arguably the best of them all. In the vids, Golarion was destroyed by the Death Moon Battle Station. Loudly criticized by the Azlanti, and outlawed within their Empire.
