I do not have a book on me but drift 3 look off on the Falcon, or am I wrong and I am not remembering the rules correctly?

MDC

Medium and smaller can have drift of up to 5, large up to 4, after that it plunges, G and C can only have drift 1, H is either 1 or 2.

Liberty's Edge

Xenocrat is correct. Having a high value drift engine on a fighter tends to leave you with a vast surplus of power when you aren't using the engine.

Thanks for the info, when I read it it just struck me as odd.
I guess I need to borrow the book again and refresh my memory.

@ Highwind

I really like the manta and simplicity's edge. Just curious, where are you getting your images from?

Liberty's Edge

I get the art from all over the internet, and give credit to the artists in my collected Starfinder materials file.

I do not remember where I found the art for the Manta, but the ship in Simplicity's Edge was done by AdamKop.

Highwind

What do you use to create your stat blocks? I'm using nickola's calculator, but it doesn't have all of what you show for your ships. I have one I'd like to post, but I really like the layout you'r using...

Liberty's Edge

I do my preliminary work in Nickela's calculator. If you're talking about the crew bonuses at the bottom, I figure those out myself using the information rules from the starships chapter of the book/pdf.

Do you have a document set up with the formatting you paste everything into? I understand how to calculate everything, but I'd like to use the same layout you are using/posting.

Liberty's Edge

I have a file that I cannibalized ,and modified, from what I used to do my pathfinder material with.

Can you make a link to that? That would be awesome :D

I have to say, I am loving that there are others contributing and creating their own Star ships. YA for community projects!

I'm curious, where are they getting their extremely high gunnery bonuses from? Some of them are even higher than their bonus in piloting.

In general an NPC ship is allowed to have one crew member with master level skill. this is set at 9 + (1.5 x tier) istead of the normal 4.5 + (1.5 x tier).

While that may answer why some of the bonuses were higher than some of the pilot bonuses, they still seem way too high, considering they use ranks or base attack.

Take this one, for example, where it says science/gunnery. What's making this thing's gunnery bonus so high? I feel like I'm just not understanding something.

Liberty's Edge

Master Skill is 9 + (Ranks x 1.5), and generally with a npc crew the ranks are equal to the ship's tier.

So in the case of the Peregrine the crew has 2 ranks to the relevant skill.

So the bonus for a master skill, before ship based bonuses, is +12 (9 + (2 x 1.5))

NPCs use there total skill bonus as an attack roll? I thought gunnery typically is just the rank/base attack + dex mod + other bonuses from actions.

Liberty's Edge

The BMC Mauler (page 314) uses the same basic idea for gunnery except they only gave it good skill which is 4+(Rank/Tier*1.5). So a +7 for the BMC Mauler in this case.

I'm thinking that may have been a mistake on their end considering that they shouldn't be allowed to essentially use their full piloting bonus as an attack roll, unless of course they intend NPC ships to scale over twice as fast as PC ships for whatever reason.

Looking at the Novaspawn, it's a tier 8 "starship" that has +12 to its gunnery checks, yet none of the skill formulas can be used to get a bonus of +12.

Liberty's Edge

I don't know what the Novaspawn is since it isn't in the core book. But every ship in the CRB the gunnery number notations adhere to either of the two calculations that I gave which are from the book.

Yes, I know. I was saying that all the ships in the CRB may have incorrect gunnery bonuses. Gunnery is not a skill check, which they may not have been under that assumption when making those statblocks, and this notion is supported by the alien archive since it has 3 starships that don't work like that.

I'm in the "all example gunnery values in the CRB are a mistake" camp.

Understand that I'm not trying to rain in on anyone's parade or trying to give people a hard time for a very easy mistake (potentially) that Paizo is at fault for. It's just possibly a single error, that's it, and an easy fix, at that. But if I realize an error that will benefit the game upon fixing, then I feel like I have to call it out.

Besides, I don't think people enjoy getting pummeled in space by tier 2 ships that have a whopping +12 bonus, not counting nodes, while the PCs ships simply don't compare in that regard.

I wanna ask if anyone had any ideas for crafting Goblin ships made of scrap and held together with spit and good intentions. For inspiration, some names:

Goblincraft ScrapFighter
Goblincraft Heavy Trashports
Goblincraft Junkruisers
Goblincraft Heap Haulers

Don't forget the glue and the Duct Tape. ... Lots of Duct Tape.

I just saw this a few minutes ago. Took only a couple of minutes to design a ship.

I just did a pass (you may have seen me). I appreciate when someone goes over my stuff with the red pen, so I hope I didn't step on your toes too much. I like what I see so far content-wise. Will definitely be pulling some of those ships for my own game. I might even consider offering that shuttle to my PCs. I know my wife will appreciate the firefly reference.

I noticed you're typing those statblocks by hand (or maybe copy-pasting them from somewhere else), so I humbly suggest using the following to create them and copy-pasting the Statblock tab.

Nickela's Starfinder Ship Calculator v1.44

Hi, Nickela. This is great! Thanks for putting this together!

Can you please check the line references for Thrusters and Defenses for v1.6? It looks like they're both referencing one line lower than they should be. When I select M8 thrusters, it yields a speed 10 (instead of 8) and when I choose Mk 3 Defenses, it increases the TL by 4 (instead of 3).

Thanks!

Need help with a custom build for a storyline. A pre-gap unknown ship called the EDF Atragon.

Weapons
Absolute zero cannon: bow mounted, affixed (more likely is) to drill axle, cone spray, instant death to humanoid life, destruction to fixed structures.
Bow Drill: bow mounted ramming weapon, jackhammer tipped, designed for ramming attacks and burrowing through the planet's crust.
Saw Blade x3: Top and bottom mounted, assists drill with additional damage and burrowing.
4x turrets: 3x 16 inch guns, max range ten miles solid projectile, can switch from solid projectile to electron partical and laser.
Missiles: starboard and port 5x missile silos, conventional warheads.

Defense
Armor: Average Japanese submarine thickness, material though is an unknown metal allow mix making it stronger than it appears.
Discharge circuits: For added measure, anti-personal electrical discharge circuits and batteries. In place for boarding parties or monster engagement.

Movement
Planetary: 80 nautical knots on water surface (considerably slower when submerged or burrowing), Unknown depth range, capable of surviving extreme heat from mantle.
Aerospace: Anti-gravity repulsers for atmospheric flight, retrofitted for space travel (known feat reached Venus in undetermined amount of time).

Crew
Size: Unknown.
