A slate spider is a a figurine of wondrous power. When it is active it counts as an attended object with one hit point.
What happens if it gets caught in a fire ball?
Nothing?
Destroyed?
Something else?
Edit: Apparently the rules have changed from 3.5 (and d20PFSRD has the wrong ones). The old rules (attended items only need to roll if their person rolls a Natural 1 on his save) seems to have been removed. Or at least I can't find it in the PRD.
Saving Throws: Nonmagical, unattended items never make saving throws. They are considered to have failed their saving throws, so they are always fully affected by spells and other attacks that allow saving throws to resist or negate. An item attended by a character (being grasped, touched, or worn) makes saving throws as the character (that is, using the character's saving throw bonus).
Magic items always get saving throws. A magic item's Fortitude, Reflex, and Will save bonuses are equal to 2 + half its caster level. An attended magic item either makes saving throws as its owner or uses its own saving throw bonus, whichever is better.
Slate spiders have a caster level of 11th, so their own saving throw bonuses would be +7. So it would roll a Reflex save with a +7 bonus (or the wearers, if theirs is higher).

The natural 1 stuff still applies. It's on the Magic page.
Apparently I misremembered where it was. Instead of being with say, oh I don't know, the rest of the rules dealing with item hardness, hitpoints, and saving throws, it gets shoved into the Magic section. Considering it applies against more than just spells, it should not be there. But that is another argument.
It really doesn't change much of what I said though. Just that the item wouldn't need to make a save unless its wearer rolls a natural 1 on his save. The items saving throw bonuses would be as I said above. It just wouldn't need to attempt a save in most cases.
