Split Hex vs Major Hex in Combat

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I'm curious how often Witches use split Slumbers and Misfortune vs Major Hexes.

Besides the added range, it seems like a split hex would be the better choice in most circumstances.

Well, it's all circumstantial. Sometimes you really want to force that Ice Tomb fortitude save i.e. enemy casters. I'd rather entomb one caster than sleep two sword mooks.

anyway, nothing prevents you from taking the Split Hex feat in case you feel like it, and you still have your major hexes at proper levels anyway... there's even a Split Major Hex feat to get the best of both worlds ;)

Split Major Hex isn't available until 18th level so that's not really an option for most players.

Having options that target fort is another point in favor of major hexes.

It just seems like the major hexes don't scale in power very well. The base hexes start too strong and there is nowhere reasonable to go.
