Can you place fusions on Solarian weapon crystals?

I cannot seem to find any indication that you cannot...and I don't see why you couldn't (it would actually be a limiter on what the Solarian could add in comparison to other classes), so this may be a "You answered your own question" situation, but still...

Thoughts?

Agreed that this should be clarified.

But then, if a Weapon Crystal counts as a "weapon" because they're in the weapon tables.. Does that mean I can upgrade ammunition and grenadres with Fusions as well?

You absolutely can apply Fusions to ammunition and grenades. It costs half price to do so. Page 192.

I'm not sure why you would want to, but you can.

Considering you can apply Fusions to literally everything else in the weapons section, I don't see why Weapon Crystals would be left out.

It does look like you should be able to put fusions on weapon crystals, but how does an effect like "corrosive" work for a weapon crystal? Does it make half of the extra damage acid? Or half of the weapon's total damage corrosive?

First off, the Sunbolt ability specifically calls out that it does fire, but also that Crystals can allow it to change to a damage type if the crystal can change the Solar Weapon's damage type. And the fact that the only crystals in the core rulebook merely add fire damage or physical damage, not change damage types, points to it being possible to add fusions to the crystals so that it Sunbolt can be changed typewise.

For the "Corrosive" and other similar weapons its specifies that if the weapon it applies to already deals 2 types of damage, you choose to replace one of the two types with the type the property gives when you activate it.

Going off the assumption that I can add fusion to a weapon crystal,
this means if I have 3d6 Slashing from the Weapon and +2d6 Fire from the crystal, I would be able to make it 3d6 Acid and 2d6 Fire, by activating corrosive. Also, due to how you can choose each time, you could then deactivate it and re-activate it to deal 3d6 Slashing and 2d6 Acid.

Sorry if it seems jumbled thought wise, I am battling sleep deprivation due to college

I am curious about this as well.

As am I. I'm itching to play a Solarian who has a holy fusion on their weapon crystal so they can be a SPACE PALADIN!

My groups melee Solarian just decided to get chained-fusion. Now he can kick ass at 10ft range... :P

What is the benefit to being able to attack 10ft away instead of 5ft? Can't a guarded step just negate this?

Well you can reach 10ft reach enemies without attack of opportunity, Ithink you can also threaten 10ft radius if you have not attacked on your round. Also you can reach more enemies easily. Combined with haste circuit the solarian has on his armor it WILL make a difference :P

In another thread about this HERE, Owen K. C. Stephens (Starfinder Design Lead) responded with the following:

Yes, you can add fusions (or even fusion seals) to solarian weapon crystals.

You can add fusions and fusion seals to nearly anything in the book, but when an item has no level, it's unclear how the GM should handle it (just like we don't know how to craft items that don't have levels). This avoids arguments over what constitutes a weapon, thankfully, or we'd need an entire thread solely devoted to a debate about whether or not chairs are weapons, hopefully involving WWF fans.

A weapon fusion is a small, prepackaged add-on that can be attached to any weapon to infuse it with magic.

Incidentally, the Called and Glamered fusions are some of the most useful I've come across for generic use. Everything about a Called coffee mug and Called chair are wonderful.

You're not adding it to a item with no level. Solarian weapon is always the same level as the character. However you are adding the fusion to a crystal that has level defined in the weapons section just like everything else.

Yeah, you're not adding the fusion to the solar weapon, your adding it to the solar weapon crystal.
