Although I am not sure why they didnt chose the second edition from 1996 (I prefer the covers on both the '92 and '96 version)

Even back in the '90s, there was a cheersome division among players as to which was the better system. the first edition was much more of a seat-of-your-pants, beer-and-pretzels game, and the second edition had better rules for how to apportion damage if your ship gets hit.
Maybe this is a nod to the wa-hoo fans...

Yea, I was much more a fan of the 2nd Edition, but STILL this is amazing.
