best single nonmagical item worth up to 400 gp?

Advice

So, my PFS character recently finished an adventure where one of the rewards is being able to claim a single nonmagical item worth up to 400 gp for "free". My character already has magical weapons and armor, so masterwork weapons and armor aren't great investments. I was curious what other items give the most bang for that buck. Either items that are useful for almost any character, or more specifically for a warpriest.

If you don't know what you want to use it for, something general use like a Planar catalyst might be worthwhile. If it counts as a single item a kit e.g. chirurgeon's kit could work. The only nonmagical item which might be specifically useful to a warpriest which I can think of is a tattooed holy symbol.

You probably already have one but, in my opinion, a masterwork chainshirt is probably one of the best all-around non-magical pieces of gear to pick up. Obviously that depends on the character, but from an AC, max Dex, and armor type standpoint, it's one of the most solid choices for armor. At 250 gp that leaves a lot on the table... I suppose you could add armor spikes to it for 50 gp more (a spiked masterwork chainshirt sounds like one item to me, but I don't know how strict PFS would be about that) Can't get the spikes at masterwork, but maybe you could get a special material to increase the functionality of the chainshirt or the spikes with the remaining 100 gp.

This probably doesn't count as a single item, but if it does...

Dimond Dust.

Used in a number of high level spells.

There's a number of alchemy products that could slip under the non-magical description but this is a 'grey' area in the rules.

Chalk.

A good wartrained mount

Noble's outfit--only 75 gp, but when you need to infiltrate the upper levels of society, it's useful to have. Doubles as great formal attire for regular fancy occasions.

That's not a nonmagical item.

One nonmagic item I found that seems pretty good is the Vigil Cap http://archivesofnethys.com/EquipmentMiscDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Vigil%20cap

+2 circumstance bonus to Perception, +2 to saves vs blind and dazzle, or heavy fortification against gaze attacks.

I like ioun torches for 75 gp. They are just nonfunctional ioun stones with continual flame on them... which means they are hands free.

Actually, maybe just make your own- see if you can get just a grey ioun stone (25 gp) and get a cleric to cast continual flame on it. This is an advantage, since the continual flame is a light spell, and clerics get it later than wizards... which is good for light spells, since that determines whether it can cut through a darkness spell.

So adding 150 gp to the cost (level 5 caster x 3rd level spell x10) means you don't have to worry about the lower level darkness spells.

Silver Crusade

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Masterwork blunt silver weapon, if you havent ome to damage reduction.

Soul stimulant for have negative energy temporal solution

Artokus fire

The vigil cap sounds good also

Shadow Lodge

I have no idea if any of these are PFS legal (and I'm not going to look):

* Gecko, riding (combat trained)
* Exotic cologne (bottle with 4 doses remaining)
* 8-pack of Tanglefoot bags
