So what is the Scoured Stars Incident?

Starfinder Society

It seems to be pivotal prior to the start of the campaign.

Anyone in the know want to drop some info. or hints?

As I understand it, "bad stuff" happened right before everything kicks off, and the impact of that bad stuff (including, but not limited to, changing leadership of the Starfinder Society in-game) will show up in most of the early adventures. I'm not sure if anything more specific has shown up about what went down though.

agreed, based on its recurring mention in the previews i expect we will learn about it in stages through the first AP. Isnt one of the faction heads interested in trying to rescue survivors from the event? plot hooks abound...

The Starfinder Adventure Path presents an exciting story that does involve the Starfinder Society, but it's not necessarily tied into the Scoured Stars incident. That said, the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild will explore the incident a great deal in the coming months.

I was gonna say, as far as I know the Scoured Stars incident has only been mentioned in the previews for Startfinder Society factions and not in any lore related to the iconics, the general Starfinder setting, or the Dead Suns adventure path.

I mean, yes, obviously all these things exist in the same continuity, but it appears that "Scoured Stars" is more of a problem for the Society and less of a galactic event.

Clearly Cptn Pike did all the scouring and Jim is innocent. There. Incident solved.

As I recall, this incident is supposed to have killed off most of the senior leadership of the Starfinder Society, with the result that SFS players will have far fewer superiors to deal with than their PFS counterparts.

Not just leadership, but lots of rank and file Starfinders as well. Certainly the higher level folks.

From what I understand, it was an incident where some stars got scoured.

At a guess: The Starfinder Society has found a whole bunch of stars completely devoid of life/planets. Finding out what happened and kicking it's ass is the focus of the adventure path.

A Brillo pad advertising campaign gone very, very wrong.

It's almost certainly Drendle Dreng's fault.

Anyone else think, when they heard about the Scoured Star Incident: "Hey, when did I miss an Interactive Starfinder Special? Well, just as well, I suppose. Sounds like it went south really quickly."

From prepping the Quests and Commencement, this is what I've pieced together:
The previous First Seeker took the majority of the Starfinder Society's members, ships, and assets to explore the Scoured Stars sector of the Vast. Something BAD, but unknown to the rest of the society, took place that cut off everyone who went on the mission from those remaining behind. This crippled the SF Society and they've only just begun to recover and attempt to ascertain what took place out there as they rebuild their numbers.

Anyone still wondering what the Scoured Stars incident us, hasn't read the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide.

It is a very good source of information for both players and gamemasters, and best of all, it is a free download.

Check out appendix 4, page 43 and 44.

When Thursty and I were planning this season, the idea that the Scoured Stars was basically a botched multi-table interactive special came up several times.

That sounds like it could be a very fun pregen special. How long will you last...

Although I suspect a large majority of players would be very annoyed with a Special that is basically "you can't win," I personally could have a lot of fun playing a scenario that keeps spiraling farther and farther out of your control.

Halo: Reach comes to mind as an artfully put together version of that type of story that still maintained tension.
