Looking for advice on raising Profession

Advice

I've got a level 5 I'm building, who has Profession (Gambler). I'm looking for ways beyond the obvious "Wisdom item!" and "Tears to wine!". I thought of those. But my GM says that a profession can't be competitive with a Perform skill. I've taken this as a challenge.

The down side being that a perform check jump hard every 5 points, but caps at 30, while a Profession check is roll/2 per week. The up side, profession keeps scaling.

So far, I know I need a wisdom item, as high a + on a skill enchantment as I can get, MW tool (though my GM will want to know what I'm using... also, bonus thanks if you can suggest a MW Sleight of Hand item for cheating)... It's on a rogue, with the Bakuto archetype.

...I wish that we were still in character creation, because then I could recommend 'Heart of the Fields.'

EDIT: Wait I misread. WE ARE IN CHARGEN! So be a human and take Heart of the Fields. At level 5 it's a +2. It becomes +3 at level 6, and keeps scaling.

There's also Skill Focus. If you're human you can either just pick it up whenever, or if you plan on being a focused skillmonkey you can grab Focused Study and get a free Skill Focus at 1st, 8th, and... 13th iirc? Maybe 11th.

That... is disturbingly useful, and I'd take it if the character's race weren't already set as Kitsune due to being the twin sibling of another, already active, PC...

Gambler's Kit, Cheating - 300 gp
+4 circumstance bonus to Profession (Gambler) checks. Not PFS legal.

HOLY CRAP, Wilbur! That is great. We aren't playing society, so that's perfectly legal.

Wait, there's... no marked difference between Common and Cheating?

The Common one quite simply doesn't give you a bonus. It's only the games being rigged which gives you a bonus.

Ahh. Fair.

You've set yourself a tough task, as Perform can theoretically get 18 gp/day, so in a 7 day week that's 126 gp. You'll need a Profession roll of DC 253 to top the best that Perform can do.

Someone with a +20 Perform, taking 10, can average 73.5 gp/week in a city. To match that with Profession, you need a +137 bonus.

Ryric, I never said I was sane. >..>
