Another Varaint Multiclassing spell clarification

Rules Questions

I think I get how this works, but I want to be clear. I know VMCs don't give you bloodline spells, etc.
My question regards the Oracle's Curse class feature. If I take haunted, is it downside-only?

At 1st level, she must select a curse. She gains all effects of the curse, treating her effective oracle level as equal to 1/2 her character level.

Retrieving any stored item from your gear requires a standard action, unless it would normally take longer. Any item you drop lands 10 feet away from you in a random direction. Add mage hand and ghost sound to your list of spells known.

Each of the effects only adds a spell to your list of spells known (which for a variant oracle is normally empty), and never actually gives you the oracle's spellcasting ability. I just feel like this one was a big oversight, since it was on of the first set of curses released.

Yes, if you take a curse that gives spells known, and you are either (1) not a spell caster or (2) a spell caster who does not have those spells on his spell list, you do not get any benefit from those spells known.
