Walter's Magus help

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding how Walter's dervish build works. He's using an elf with weapon finesse as his level one feat and somehow picking up dervish dance at level 3. How is that possible since you don't get a second feat until level 5?

Everyone gets a feat every odd level and an ability sore increase every four levels. These are independent of class so they won't show up in the magus table. Check out the beginning of the classes section of the book.

Thanks Bardarok, been a while since I last played. Totally forgot that!

You're welcome. Good luck with the slashing and magicking!

I also have a question regarding this build at lvl 3.

Walters passage at lvl 3:
"He’s got more health now, 21, about what a wizard has. He’s also picked up Dervish Dance and spellstrike; now his basic attack is a +6 to hit (+9 with arcane accuracy) for 1d6+4, and his spell combat allows him to make two attacks at a +8/+8 if he expends a point from his pool. The first is an attack with his scimitar that hits for 1d6+6, while second (via spellstrike) hits for 3d6 with Shocking Grasp, plus another 1d6+6 from his sword. Better than his Strength based counterpart. His AC is also statically higher still, at an 18. "

I understand where the 1d6+4 is coming from. +4dmg from dervish dance via +4 dex modifier. What I don't understand a few things,

1. Why +8/+8? Shouldn't this be +7/+7, due to -2 attack rolls? +4(weapon finesse), +2(bab), +3(arcane accuracy), -2(spell combat).

2. When he says his first attack with is scimitar hits for 1d6+6, where is he getting +6 from? I understand +4, but I have no idea where a +2 comes in.

Thanks for helping out a new player :)
