Believe me, I'm not particularly worried about it. As long as it's leather and doesn't cap my Dexterity Bonus to AC, my armor will be fine. To wear anything other than like, Studded Leather Armor, as a punk, would be borderline sacrilege.

*Armor Spikes tho

You raise an interesting point, but to me, Armor Spikes are more a Metal thing than Punk, with punk much more definitively leather than anything else, with small metal accoutrements, compared to the giant spikes of other genres. Not that those don't exist in Punk, it's just not part of the iconic imagery to me.

Can crafter's buy items at crafting cost? I ask because my character can craft alchemical remedies and it would be nice to have a good supply of them on hand.

I think I will allow the feat for you and anyone else from here on who might want to take it.

That studded leather comes with fingerless gloves, right?

Yeah, I'm sure there's an Amazon service for that, @Halfling :)

I had assumed so! Would you allow (I don't see why not) a reflavoring of Apprentice's Gloves of Cheating so that they fit the bill? Honestly, I'd also like to swap Spark in for Mage Hand, so I can light cigarettes without worrying about it, and Mage Hand doesn't really seem all that useful (more specifically, fitting) for Vic. Prestidigitation seems awfully useful, though, with the ability to chill or warm food, clean, and such.

Honestly, sounding more and more like magical hobo gloves.

cool gonna try to post my character sometime soon. Will be a Tengu Zen Archer Monk

The college student Time Theif of the group with a addiction to coffee here, and prestidigitation is the best.

I carry a wand of it that I only use to make my cape flow in a non-existing wind, also indoors, it's thematically hilarious

Psssh. Higher education. Playing right into the hands of Capitalism!

On an unrelated note, I will hopefully have time to rejigger my stat block and stuff tomorrow, though I can't guarantee. My mechanical keyboard just died a few days ago, so I'm stuck with my phone for a few days more. (I didn't have a backup keyboard.)

On a more related note, however, that sounds pretty hilarious, yes.

So long as they get a suitably punk name, why not?

Looking forward to it. Y'know, behind Tiefling, Tengu might just be my most-played race.

It's all about presentation, after all, Snacko.

As someone who has just had a long stretch of using a phone for posting until very recently, you have my sympathies.

It's alright! A keyboard is already on the way.

Regarding the gloves, I'll find something fitting. :)

If it's about presentation, I think I make a fool of my self quite often sadly

I would make an item entry for them, but I honestly can't be bothered on my phone. Coming up with a punk name for some knickknack gloves is more difficult than I expected. Gloves of Anarchic Autonomy is, unfortunately, about the best I can come up with.

Roadie's Toolbox?

Gloves of hard knocks?

... You're a lot better than this at me. Don't really want a toolbox, but the Gloves of Hard Knocks are really good. Perhaps I should try sometime when I'm not coming off a twelve hour shift. I'll give it another shot on my next day off, but the Gloves of Hard Knocks are gonna be awfully difficult to beat, I think.

My nine-hour shift was merciful today. See, it's a metaphorical toolbox. Then again, I'm only defending that one because I like it more myself. Course, they won't be mine, so...

You two should really be collaberating with each other. At this rate, we'll have enough material for a hardcover supplement.

Next project, a major artifact based off of Freddie Mercury's mic, CL25 :)

But Jaster... the magic was within Freddy all along.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

*Clears throat.*

Neither is quite a perfect fit, but... Dang, if I didn't want to gestalt punk and rock star (even if they're both really action dependent classes).

Edit: It's also a shame that, mathematically, Rock Star isn't very good, either.

You're right. He was a mythic level bard.

Rock star? Where are you getting these classes? I need to know.

^^ He posted it (link on the "clears" part of Clears Throat. :)

Oh, thank you. Thought that was OOC blue XD

It's a very interesting class to me, I just can't really see myself using it. It's simply not very good, unfortunately. Stylish as hell, but not good.

O is there still a slot I have an idea

One question Psionics?

I had made a Munavri Ranger: Beastmaster for this game by the way, and it was pretty fun making the character. Munavri have amazing stat bonuses, and I had always wanted to find a way to get one to work. But, I decided it was too broken to actually play, so I am not submitting it. Background here if anyone wants to read how I attempted to get a light-blind character to function in modern America though:

background:

Kaia has zero idea about her origins or even the fact that she has telepathy, since she has never met another of her kind. Her human adoptive parents explained to her that she was an albino, and she certainly looks like one to the average human.

Unbeknownst to Kaia, her adoptive father was a deep underground miner and found her underground. He thought she was abandoned, and she may have been, so close to the surface (although very deep for a human), but he doesn't know the rest of the story either. He assumed that one of the other miners left the child because of her "deformity," and he took her home because he and his wife had never been able to conceive and he felt like it was a gift from God. All her parents told her was that she was abandoned, and explained her nature to the best of their ability, not knowing her race even existed. [I'm assuming that she was explained somehow and formally adopted so she could get a SSN, etc., but I haven't explored that part of the story.]

Her bizarre light sensitivity made her mostly blind trying to struggle through daily life. So many windows, so much bright light. Sometimes she could see clearly, sometimes not, but when they had her eyes checked, the optometrist (as they do) shone a light directly into her eyes, effectively blinding her for the duration of the test, and so she was pronounced legally blind, and (in the second turn of good luck in her life, the first being adopted), she was later paired with a seeing eye dog, which became the way that she interacted with the world. Her dog is the main way she gets around in the lighted world, and was even before she learned that she could actually bond with an animal and see through its eyes, although that didn't happen for several years.

Her dad used to bring things home to surprise her with. Something she'd never seen/felt before, and it brightened up her childhood in a lot of ways. She loved LEGOs, she would build them with her parents, and she loved the weird electronic gadgets that her dad would bring home too. A lot of times working with her dad, he would need the light brighter than she was comfortable with, but she would feel things out instead, because she wanted to hang out with him. It was as a small child that her family learned that she had a weird "psychic" ability to read objects, and know their history. Her parents had never really believed in psychic powers before, but they thought it was cool, and after that they both started bringing her things. After reading an object, she often also had the ability to use it, even if it was something she had never seen before.

It was in college that she started to become more independent. During a trip with her roommates to a local cave, she found that she could see really, really well in the dark. She had always been sensitive to light, but that trip was the revelation to her that she really wasn't "handicapped." She was just different. She was suddenly the person who could help lead her friends, rather than the other way around. Caving became her new passion, and she got a part time job as a cave guide while she was in college. It was a strange feeling being able to do something without any assistance. Thereafter, she started doing adjusting her life so she had a better chance of success with her particular abilities, rather than trying to adjust to what worked for other people.

Emboldened by her new job to take the step of living on her own, she started sleeping mostly in the day and living her life largely during the night. She switched to night classes, studying veterinary medicine. Of course, they wouldn't let her become a vet because she is blind, and that would be ludicrous, right? (Chalk up another point for discrimination.) She was able to become a vet assistant and with a loan from her parents, she set up a no-kill shelter, open odd hours (or at least odd to others). While running the shelter, she perfected her ability to bond with an animal and actually see through its eyes, which she now often relies on when she has to do things during the day. It isn't as good as being normally sighted, because the perspective is skewed, but it is much better than trying to rely on her own sight in bright light.

Enjoy the game, everyone. Great concept. :)

===== Special Abilities =====
Aerial Antics (Su) At 3rd level, each time the punk successfully scores a hit with a melee attack against an opponent, he has the option to launch himself 5 feet into the air after the attack. If this moves the punk outside of the reach of his weapon, his attack ends.
Cityscape Runner (Ex) At 2nd level, the punk gains a competence bonus on any Acrobatics checks and on Survival checks in urban environments equal to 1/2 his punk level.
Countercultural Hero (Ex) Given the vagrant beginnings of the punk and the punk’s countercultural mission, he gains an aura of chaos. The power of the punk’s aura of chaos (see the detect chaos spell) is equal to his punk level.
Devil City Parkour (Ex) At 4th level, as part of a move action, the punk can redirect his movement off a solid object that can support his weight (a wall, a refuse bin, a tree, etc) and continue the rest of his movement in a straight line (up, diagonal, etc). The punk must have at least 5 feet of movement before contacting the object in question.
Gravity Gain (Ex) At 1st level, the punk gains a circumstance bonus to his melee damage rolls based on how far above his enemy he is. The punk may only make an attack delivered after falling or jumping from a higher surface. He converts any falling damage he would normally take to additional damage on a single attack roll. For every 10 feet the punk has fallen, he does an additional +1d6 damage. He may only roll a number of d6 dice equal to half his punk level (minimum of 1). For every additional 10 feet that a punk would fall he gains a +1 bonus on the damage roll for falls up to 200 feet. There is no further increase for falls above 200 feet. In addition, the punk of 3rd level or higher never takes falling damage from heights 10 feet per punk level or lower.
Impact (Ex) All creatures adjacent to the square in which the punk lands must make a Reflex save (DC 10 + 1/2 punk level + Dexterity modifier) or be knocked prone.
No Fear (Ex) At 5th level, the punk does not provoke attacks of opportunities when performing combat maneuvers if he succeeds on a DC 15 Will save. He must make this Will save every time he would provoke an attack of opportunity. At 9th level, this also applies to attacks of opportunity provoked from the punk’s movement but with a DC 20. Additionally, at 9th level, the punk automatically passes his no fear checks for attacks of opportunities provoked by combat maneuvers.
Riot (Ex) The punk gains the Improved Unarmed Strike feat as a bonus feat. In addition, he uses the unarmed damage for a creature one size category larger when determining the damage his unarmed strikes and natural attacks deal.
Skatepark Hero (Su) The punk gains a mode of magical transportation. This manifests itself as something at the feet of the punk. It could be a board of light upon which he rides like a skateboard, a sparking light that allows him to glide across the ground like rollerblades, or even a magical longboard that glides across the waves as if it had a motor on it (in an aquatic setting). This allows the punk to move at a +10 foot movement speed. The object must not be motorized, must roll or slide, be of simple construction (not necessarily part of the time period), and require no hands to utilize.
Skyhook (Sp) At 5th level, the punk can use glide as a spell-like ability at will using his punk level as his caster level.

Background:

Growing up a reasonably privileged youth, he was naturally born with a chip on his shoulder. The system that his parents had adhered to so well, which had gotten them to a comfortable lifestyle, was so obviously flawed in his creative mind, that naturally, he should fight against it! Now, he didn't quite have the clout that politicians had, (how could he, after all? He was only a teen when the Punk Mentality had set in,) he did have a voice! A particularly loud one, at that, especially when amplified through a secondhand microphone, hooked up to thirdhand amplifiers he'd acquired through... legitimately illegitimate means. A little pickpocketing here, a few rides home from cops there... Nothing out of the ordinary. Such loudness tends to attract those with similar thoughts, and as such, Stereo Meat was born!

For a garage band, Stereo Meat were honestly pretty Goddarned good. Nothing to speak of, at first, but absolutely captivating, for their genre. With songs of Anarchy and Dissolution of State, however... they didn't really get the traction they needed, at least, not with the message they wanted to convey. Nevertheless, through high school, and a good while after, they kept at it! Through various gigs, both in somewhat mainstream establishments as well as underground movements, they made enough to survive, but it wasn't until Buckoustics, an up-and-coming record label, approached them about a mixed tape that had somehow made it's way into their hands.

The news, needless to say, was divisive. Well, divisive insofar as "Vic felt that his band shouldn't even give these corporate bigwigs the time of day," and the rest of the band wanted to move on, to bigger and better (and more expensive) things, instead of chasing a dream they had no hopes of accomplishing. His band, they determined, could keep on keeping on, while they'd be changing their tune and audience; Buckoustics thought they might be a bit more at home, with their culture and intelligence, as the flagship band for the label: Mr. Fuller and the Ballers, more of an alt-pop group with a tinge of math and science, complete with their own Nye-lookalike frontman.

Betrayed by the people he'd come to really like over the past several years, (the first in a long time, if he was completely honest,) he set off, singing some of Stereo Meat's "iconic" songs in bars, parks, subway stations, and other similar, alternative venues, making enough to keep moving, always to another city, eventually finding himself in THE big city, The Big Apple, New York City!

Party Tie-in TBD

Oh my gosh, I'm sorry. This has taken far, far longer than I ever expected it to. While my keyboard arrived just fine, I got really, really sick, unfortunately. I've essentially been going to work, coming home, and going to sleep every day. But! Here it is! Hopefully, it's alright for y'all; I really like the idea of this character.

After reading the rest of those classes, I now really want to play as a Battle Butler.

I usually try and avoid Psionics, but if the character concept is good enough, I might consider it.

What I did with light-blind characters is, so far, have the orcs wear shades.

Looks interesting, though. Feel free to throw more ideas at the wall if you don't want to play as that one.

Looking good, Soltz. Glad to see you're better. I'm just coming off of a virus, myself.

I think... that might be my completed submission minus gear which I'm finishing now. With a handy belt, a new pair of gloves, and a wicked leather jacket and matching leather pants, I think Vic Friction could be a solid, interesting addition to your team!

And how are everybody elses submissions coming along? Havent heard another peep from the other folks yet.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more activity in here, with the interest that had been shown.

Hmm. I never considered sunglasses as a way around light blindness. Nice, simple, and so, so much easier than my tortured attempt.

... I actually expected recruitment to be over by now, and hadn't been watching this thread, but if you are still rounding people up and need more, I'll have time probably Friday night/Saturday morning to change up Kaia (my Munavri) to favor sunglasses (might have to make them VR capable as well). She started as a Ranger: Beastmaster (runs an animal shelter) in order to get the ability to see through animal's eyes, but now she could really be almost anything if all it takes is some nice shades. :)

Any requests in terms of whether you need a healer, spellcaster, or skill monkey? (Or other... Munavris can't really help being skill monkeys to some extent.) Since there are a couple of days before I can do it, if there is anything you really need in the party, happy to include that in the rebuild.

If you get enough people to go with before that though, that is okay too, and totally understand.

Heh, prescription sunglasses for the solarly impaired.

I can heal a bit, and I think our resident alchemist, Devic, can too, so another 'side healer' probably isn't a bad idea.

A skill monkey(no offense to vanaras!) could be useful, as could a spellcaster. Right now our access to spells is kinda limited(Ammon is a Bloodrager and I'm a Spherecaster. Devic is our best 'caster' at the moment) so there's room there too.

So, I thought I remembered hearing about Munavri somewhere and gave them a look. They are kinda... wildly imbalanced, aren't they? A bonus to 5 stats, super darkvision, and super Use Magic Device. Plus dazzled is the most easily ignored penalty in the game. It's -1 to attack rolls, and -1 to sight-based perception, which is cancelled out by the wisdom bonus. Submit whatever you'd like of course, but I wanted to make my thoughts open.

Edit: To offer advice, I think a more capable healer than us is gonna be handy. What we have covered the most are skills, and by the time a new party member would join, we'll have a crafter. We could use pretty much anything besides those.

Yep, it was fun to build but i didn't submit it the first time because I thought it would just be rejected as too broken. I never "optimize," but it's still a character with no obvious weaknesses. Just wanted to try and make one work.

It's okay that you're rejecting her. She'll get over it. :)

Alternatively I have a character that recently hit the shelf (her picture is remarkably similar to Rameil's, which is what reminded me):

Nazuri, an Aasimar cleric built for another game. [You can look at her current build if you like... she already has an alias.] Aasimar is certainly more normal, so I assume not a dealbreaker, and you both mentioned healing. I would just have to write a new background (the obvious Aasimar in Cheliax thing won't work in a modern setting, but could probably be adapted), downgrade the stats some (the stats were based on rolling 5d6, drop the 2 lowest), and boosting her level.

Does your game have a specific rule for how to deal with Aasimar variant abilities? Do you roll for one, or are they forbidden, or something else? I think in that game we rolled three times and got to choose from those, but obviously would have to change to whatever you guys do instead.

Come to think of it, she could also be a total sunglasses at night girl. Her eyes glow... no mistaking her for a human if she doesn't wear shades. :)

I also have an Archaeologist Bard moving to the shelf, but that's really skill-heavy, spell-light, which doesn't seem like the best choice for this game, at least from what you guys are saying.

So, if you want Nazuri instead of broken (hearted) Kaia, she's yours. I could update her tomorrow night.

Here she is if you want to take a look. She'll look a lot better at 5th though, and I might change the archetype too. The one she has was chosen because she was starting out as a slave in the game, so the holy symbol as a brand and the unarmed strike helped her in that context.

On Earth, maybe she could carry mace instead of beating people up. I don't know. Self-defense is still a good tactic in real life. :)

One of the cool things about the character which we could keep is that she is a tour guide. That should fit well into the whole going to Japan thing, and at higher levels the travel domain gets lots of teleporty stuff. :)

Aw, don't consider me alone a vote "no." I'm just one of the five voters. I like the character background, I guess I just think it looks as if any race with light sensitivity would work for Kaia.

Aasimar? Can't say. Mr. GM guy?

@zanbabe
Sometimes the best solutions are the easiest ones :)

You could roll for one here if you want to use 'em. I'm a little iffy on the rules, though. Do you replace a different ability with something on the table, or is it just a stacked effect?

Hmm... I hadn't even considered party roles. This may not bode well, I'm not sure. I never put much stock in them, myself, but I know a lot of parties tend to be a bit more traditional as far as that sort of thing goes.

@Jaster: you just roll for one, and then decide if you want to use it to replace the default spell-like ability they already have (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/other-races/featured-races/arg-aasimar/). It's the "Table: Variant Aasimar Abilities" area which has options for the d100. (Tieflings use a similar table, so if you allow those races you can have people roll one d100 to use for either one.) :)

So, here's my roll:

Variant Ability roll: 1d100 ⇒ 75

Ha ha. 75 is "You can sense when a creature is pregnant by standing within 10 feet of the creature."

And while I suppose that could be interesting... I think I'll just go with the default (daylight once per day).

You can also roll for physical characteristics, but since those don't affect gameplay, most GMs just let you pick on that table. For Nazuri I chose glowing eyes. If you want me to roll instead, just let me know. :)

Joseph Soltz wrote:

I don't think we actually need to fill out the party roles. Jaster Kite hs made some neat adventures so far and I can't think of a time we've needed something in particular.

Hit point rolls for 3rd-5th level:

HP 3rd level: 1d8 ⇒ 8
HP 4th level: 1d8 ⇒ 5
HP 5th level: 1d8 ⇒ 3

So, with 12 from 1st full and 2nd half, that makes 28 for 5th level.

Nazuri is now a Devout Pilgrim Cleric with the same two domains as before... just different template. Changed her stats to 25 point buy and updating to 5th level now. Also need to write the background, so I'll transfer everything over to the alias in the morning probably.

I took Earth languages instead of race languages... is that right? If not, let me know so I can move skill points around.

Also, do we have to convert gold to dollars or other Earthly currency?

I'm asking because it might come up for this feat I am taking:

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/brilliant-planner

Where you set aside 250 gold as a brilliant plan fund, so that if we need something, she can remember that she already thought of that, and pull out... Japanese guidebooks, or a map of the city, or... you know, whatever we should have thought of and now need.

It seems appropriate to her back story as a tour guide, but wasn't sure how we would determine gold-to-dollar wise what was allowed.

Okay, here is Nazuri as an official submission. Have to total up the gear and see if there is something else I want to buy, but other that that, all done.

For gold we're using a simple 1-to-1 conversion to "credits," a universal currency. Like a super-euro.

Okay, cool. I'll change that.

What are you doing with languages? Is there still "Common," or do we have to take each Earth language?

"Common" is just whatever the primary language is where your character is from. Mine is from Russia, so her common is russian, etc...

You'll probably want to make one of your languages english.

I took Earth languages, with English as my free primary language. I was just making sure that is how it works in this world. In Golarion, the idea is that Common is actually a common language that many races have in common, and not a regional thing. One of the things I have access to by Pathfinder rules are extra, uncommon languages like Abyssal and Infernal... are those still a thing?

Yep, my alchemist also has Gnome, Goblin, Dwarven and Draconic. It creates a weird ground for me. I usually use actual languages as stand-ins for fantasy ones. Now I need to get creative if it comes up. I've definitely settled on Jawa-speak for Goblin. So there's that going for me.

Fun fact: Common actually is a regional thing in Golarion, "common" is technically the "Taldan" language, but it is widespread. Like English.

Traditional party roles aren't incredibly important in this game. I make sure that the adventures can be completed by any combination of characters.

That would have definitely been an interesting power to have. Imagine the possibilities...

Yep, credits. Keeps me from having to keep track of exchange rates :)

Race languages exist alongside real world languages, just as human languages exist along them in the original game.
