GM rewards for low level adventure

GM Discussion

Hello,

I am planning on GMing a PFS module on a local gaming event.

I was thinking on getting a low level adventure (probably Master of the Fallen Fortress) since the events need tables for begginers.

Can I get the GM reward to my PC if they have higher level than the adventure tier? How does it work?

Tldr,
Do I get GM reward for a 5th lvl character if I GM a 1st level scenario?

Thanks

Master of the Fallen Fortress is a Tier 1 module, and can only be played with 1st level characters. The GM rewards depend on the level of the character receiving credit. In this case, it would have to be applied to a 1st level character, as the tier does not include any other levels. If you ran a Tier 1-5 adventure, the players could play brand new 1st level characters in the 1-2 subtier, and if you had a 5th level character, your GM credit would grant them the subtier 4-5 rewards. If you only have a 2nd level character, you would give them subtier 1-2 rewards for GM credit, crossing out the subtier 4-5 rewards.

The primary reward for GMing low level scenarios (well, over and above the fact that you hopefully enjoy yourself and are giving back to the game) is that, very soon, you

NEVER EVER HAVE TO PLAY AT LEVEL 1 AGAIN UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO.

And soon that 1 becomes a 2 :-).

So, if you have some character concept that absolutely sucks at level 1 (and maybe 2) but comes together at level 3 you get to skip those really crappy levels.

Your rogue can dip Str to 5 if you want and rock his dex to damage. Your ninja actually has his Ki tricks. Etc, etc, etc.

Actually, it can also be played at level 2 (once), according to the season 8 guide. The relevent text is as follows (pg 18):

EVERGREEN ADVENTURES
All Tier 1 and 1-2 adventures can be replayed an unlimited
number of times with a 1st-level character for credit.
The Tier 1 and 1–2 adventures can also be played with
a 2nd-level character once for credit in each campaign
mode (Core and Standard Modes). GMs receive another
Chronicle sheet each time they run one of the Tier 1
and Tier 1-2 adventures, but can only apply a Chronicle
sheet to one 2nd-level character per adventure per
campaign mode.

Incorrect. A character must still be in tier to receive a chronicle, and MotFF cannot be played or applied to a 2nd level character.

Sigh. They couldn't issue a corrected version of the guide, or put a link to this information on the module's webpage, or find some other way of making the fact that the guide is wrong easier to find?

FAQs haven't been updated in quite awhile. The PFS team has taken the list we made a few months ago and turned it into decisions, but had to put the update on hold while we got further along with scenarios. It is on the agenda for updates soon. But Guide supersedes FAQ when they are in conflict.

Last year, we made radical changes to the format of the Guide in an attempt to organize it by user type. Since its release, we found several pieces that got dropped unintentionally. The family clause is one such piece. Which is why we have Guide 8.X in the works. But again, it takes back seat to some other tasks such as getting support to conventions and updating Venture-Officers so they have tools to to keep their regions running.

What about the new free rpg day boon that lets you replay motff for credit?

Shadow Lodge *****

That'd be pretty silly, since you can already replay MotFF as many times as you like.

It has been suggested that the mention of MotFF on the boon was a little future-proofing in case they change their stance on the module and make it 1-2 at some point.
