Can you make a potion of "Summon Eidolon"?

As far as I can tell, the spell "Summon Eidolon" can be made as a potion. Is this correct?

Yep, looks like it. Though I have no idea how that actually works.

No effect.

Since the drinker is the target and the spell has a target "one eidolon", and presumably the drinker isn't an eidolon, it will have no effect.

Does "Share Spells" get around this?

What if it is a synthesist summoner?

Being a Synthesist makes no difference. The Eidolon is summoned the same regardless.

As for the Share Spells feature. At first I was thinking that would be the work around. However, the target effect of the spell would prevent it. It is an interesting idea though.

It almost feels like this spell shouldn't work anyway, the way it's written. The eidolon is further away than close range, so how do you target it for summoning?

The range isn't the problem (as it only determines where the effect will be), but the target portion is: "You must be able to see or touch the target". So yeah, the spell should have an effect rather than a target line.

Derk's 100% correct here. You'd basically have to have the eidelon you were summoning drink the potion, which would just summon it to the location it's already at. So, technically, yes you CAN, but it's a useless potion.

It got me wondering how just the spell can work then. If the eidolon is not present until after you cast the spell, how can you target the eidolon to cast the spell? It seems like a paradox as written.

Summon Eidolon

The text of the spell explains: "You open a rift between dimensions that summons your eidolon." That rift is in the Range, and the eidolon is targeted across the dimensions.

The range does limit the location your eidolon can wander. If it goes beyond Close, it poofs due to moving out of range of the spell effect.

Ah-ha! Does that mean it can be made as a potion? A summoner drinks the potion, a rift opens, and the summoner uses the share spells ability to target himself and the eidolon as well?

Range is only a factor at time of casting. For range to effect the spell after time of casting, there needs to be special text to that effect.

Well, I guess you now know how often I summon critters. :-)

You could make an oil of sommon eidolon.

But the spell does not work if you are on the same plane as your eidolon. But in the event that your eidolon is adjacent to you across a planar boundary that you can reach across to apply the oil, a new portal would open and summon your eidolon across to a spot within range that was chosen at the time the oil was created.

Update: Made a single-use wondrous item called an "Elixir of Eidolon Summoning" that summons the drinker's eidolon. Problem solved.
