Announcing Play-by-Post Gameday VI!
EVENT #152,539
Friday, August 25th, 2017 - Thursday, November 17th

Hey Gang!

We’re excited to announce the next PBP Gameday. This year, we’ll not only be kicking off Season Nine (The Year of Faction’s Favor) for PFS, but also all of Starfinder! Signups open today. In order for your game to count, it must start either on or after August 25th, and end on or before November 17th.

  • Session I will run from August 25th, 2017-Thursday, October 5th, 2017.
Scenario Support Deadline: July 10th, 2017.

During this session, we’ll be running the special Solstice Scar run by Overseer Granta. GMs who are interested in GMing for the Solstice Scar special should fill out the Solstice Scar GM Recruiting Form.

  • Session II will run from October 6th-November 17th.
Scenario Support Deadline: September 4th, 2017

____

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I sign up to GM?

Go to PbPGameday.com. The front page contains a list of tables that are currently signed up in addition to a link at the bottom to register a table as a GM. If you are GMing a table, you’ll need to create a campaign thread before registering your game.

How do I play?

Can I GM a game on a site that is not Paizo?

Will there be Starfinder games to play?

Yes! We will be featuring both Starfinder Society and PFS games.

Why the two Sessions?

The first session provides a hard ending point for when the Solstice Scar Special ends. The second session allows those GMing Solstice Scar to GM something else without the distraction of the special.

I want to run a long module. Can I run the game so that runs over both Session I and into Session II?

Sure. The division of Session I and Session II will only matter to those GMing the Solstice Scar special.

Will there be boons for Players and GMs?

Absolutely. This is a convention for which you don’t have to leave home.

Can I participate if I am new to Play-by-Post?

Certainly! Just let your GMs and Players know. They’ll be glad to help.

How many games can I sign up to GM?

While we set no hard limit on this, we want you to be able to pay attention to all your games and show your players a good time. If this will be your first ever time GMing PbP, we strongly recommend that you only do one game at a time. It’s more work than it looks.

Is there a limit on how many specials / exclusives I can GM at any given time?

Yes. At any given time, each GM can only GM either:

  • One table of a multi-table special - or -
  • Two tables of a four star exclusive game like Serpent’s Rise, Serpent’s Ire or Maelstrom’s Rift.

How many games can I sign up to play?

Once again there is no hard limit, but we recommend that you don’t overcommit if you have not played PbP before. Sign up for one or two games, and enjoy them.

One technical note: we realize that announcing this event right AFTER a series of site outages may not be the best timing, but it is the timing that we have. Paizo has been putting in a series of fixes that we're hoping will lead to stable Play-by-Posts come later this summer, and all through Play-by-Post Gameday.

I hope you'll take the leap with us, and try Play-by-Post out, whether here, or on Mythweavers or RPGgeek!

Yours,

Is the 'Scenario Support Deadline' the day by which we should sign up to run our games? Or is there a separate deadline?

Grand Lodge

Good question!

If you want Paizo to provide you with a specific scenario for free, you need to sign up by that date. Otherwise, if you already own (or plan to purchase) your scenarios, you can sign up after that date.

Hmm

Hmm, Re: The Solstice Scar GM recruiting form.

What exactly is our 'Account Name'? Never really noticed our Paizo account having a name... it typically uses the email address to uniquely ID it.
Or would it just be our primary id (aka: EvilMinion) or our primary avatar name (that I've never used for anything).

Grand Lodge

Another great question!

Your account name is your primary avatar name. In your case, 'CursedFrogurt'. The whole purpose of asking for this is so that Tonya can drop scenarios into your downloads if you seek scenario support!

For that, she needs your main account name.

Wow, the three Starfinder tables are full already! I'm gonna have to be quicker, eh?

I don't see anywhere to sign up to play on the games showing Open Tables. Are they open yet?

Hit the 'Click Here' button, and sign up with the GM! Unfortunately, we are going to have to manually 'close' tables that fill up, so if you see tables that are really full, let us know so we can change the designation!

Hmm

There is one that appears to be open...

Hey Gang, I keep getting PMs asking me about scenario support and what scenarios can or should be done for the convention. We're a little different than other conventions in that our offerings are largely determined by our GMs. If you want to run something, you get to pick what you want to run!

For PbP, you can run pretty much any scenario that is currently allowed in PFS. The exceptions are:

1) The Bonekeep series, which no one can do for Play-by-Post because of the strict real time limit;

2) 4 star exclusives like Maelstrom's Rift, Serpent's Rise, Serpent's Ire and the current 5 star exclusive, True Dragons of Absalom. Those can be run for PbP, but they can only be run if you have the requisite GM stars.

You can even do modules, and there is a list of modules that are allowed for PFS on the Additional Resources page, along with their chronicle sheets.

____

How scenario support works for conventions:

Paizo likes to support GMing at cons, because conventions spawn new users. If you decide to GM a certain module or scenario, we will send it on a list to Tonya along with your email and account name, and Tonya will drop the scenario or module into your downloads. You get it for free. The downside is sometimes you don't get the thing until a week or two before the convention.

Yes, even brand new GMs would qualify for convention support! I hope this helps everyone.

I realize it may be a premature question, but do we have any notion of when player signups for Solstice Scar will go up? I'm definitely interested in playing that.

I'm interested in GMing Solstice Scar, but I think I won't. I know that the fall is going to be another busy semester, and GMing Sky Key Solution on the breakneck pace of gameday last year starting at the end of August broke me.

(Myself, 3 months is about the right time for a moving-along-but-not-breakneck PFS scenario. The six weeks for the Special -- especially given that Specials tend to be more loaded with combat-type encounters than most scenarios -- feels unworkable to me. I realize a lot of the community works on a different pace, though, so I'll just bow out. One question I have, though, is if there's enough of the community that operates on the pace I'm ore used to that it might be worth thinking about offering a 3-month special during a PbP "gameday" sometime.)

Hmm

My table of the quests is full, even the waitlist; could you please fix the status?

How do we edit the starting date once we've submitted the listing?

Grand Lodge

One of the things that will help me with keeping these up to date is giving me table numbers.

Something like "Redelia. Table 7 Starfinder Quests are now full!"

Chadius, same deal. Give me the Table Number (and the name of the adventure) and tell me what the revised start date is!

Okay, Hmm.

I volunteered to GM a low-tier PbP table of #8-99 Solstice Scar during Session 1 of PbP GameDay VI.

I created a GM alias and followed your link to the Solstice Scar GM Recruiting Form and completed the submission.

Then I went to PbPGameDay.com page. I didn't see any tables listed yet for Solstice Scar. Did I miss something?

Need some guidance on how to handle things like setting up the recruitment thread, campaign page, and gameplay thread.

Appreciate your patience with a PbP GM newb.

Thanks,
Larry Smith

Someone correct me if Im wrong, but I understand that Overseer Granta will be selecting GM's from among those who complete the recruitment form.

I'm keen to run a table of *something* in Session 2 but on RPGGeek (not Paizo). Do I need to sign up here? Recruitment will be entirely done on RPGGeek as usual for PFS PbP games there.

Also, The Starfinder scenario 1-00 Claim to Salvation - Is that a special of some sort?

Where can I find the SFS scenarios already revealed? I've checked the Starfinder products page but can't see them there.

SFS 1-00 is a single table "Special" and requires the use of level 4 pregens - but it is open for anyone to run, there is no star limit.

The info for the scenarios have only been fully released in the GenCon site - they do not have product pages on Paizo.com yet.

Hey Larry,

GM Granta will be selecting GMs for Solstice Scar. Go ahead and apply through him, and then we'll be putting the tables together once the GMs are selected!

I agree that running Solstice Scar during a busy time would be hard, but we'd love to have a GM of your caliber running something. As for a slow special? It's an interesting idea, but one I'd have to run past John and Tonya.

Out of curiosity, if you could run a 3 month special, any 3 month special... What would you run?

During the last online gameday scenario support did not include modules. Will that be different for this online gameday?

Grand Lodge

I was not aware that PbP Gameday V did not support modules. Can you link to where that was discussed?

Looking at the standard Scenario Event Support Form for Conventions, most modules are included. Scenario Support does not include Adventure Paths, Emerald Spire or Thornkeep. If you plan to run a module like Gallows of Madness or Feast of Ravenmoor, I plan to put in a scenario support request for you.

I am planning on offering True Dragons of Absalom over at Myth-Weavers for this PbP gameday. I have't put stuff up yet, but I will do so. I'm running this because I can! That's only been true for a couple of months. I will start it at the beginning of the whole thing, with the expectation that it will take longer than just Session I to complete it.

If I were to run a 3-month PbP multi-table Special... I might try Sky Key Solution if we could get special dispensation to change the scenario just a little bit. I've run this three times and played in it once (a "slot zero" back before it was clarified that slot zero had to have enough tables by itself).

In that scenario, to my mind, one of the very coolest encounters is Part 2, section E2. However, the only time I've seen it at a table is at that aforementioned slot 0 game, where we weren't under the same kind of time pressure. Every other time I've done it, the players where in the middle of something else when area E1 opened, so we finished that before rushing to E1. Then, we couldn't finish the E1 encounter before Part 2 was announced as complete. This to me is unfortunate, because E2 is such a potentially cool encounter. (It also gets the players a boon....) What I'd like to do is just some minor modifications -- which might involve advice to Table GMs -- to allow people time to complete both E1 and E2. As soon as E1 is available, GMs should just call whatever encounter they're on, and move on to E1, to make sure players get a shot at E2. The downside of this is that it will probably reduce the number of victory points overall, if tables don't complete whatever encounter they're on when E1 is declared open. (That's the reason I didn't just rush on to E1 each time, but let the encounter finish first.)

Grand Lodge

I am so happy to hear that you are running True Dragons! That is a scenario that will benefit from a non-rushed experience!

____

Sky Key Solution was run very recently, which means it would have to be a while before it was run again. Would you accept a "no" for now combined with an "I'm mulling it over" for later?

____

Everyone, can you help us track what tables should be marked full? If you find games that are now full but say they have open seats, can you list them here?

Ex. "FULL: Tables 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 13"

GMs, if you know your tables are full, you can also replay to the emails that we sent you and tell us the table's full.

Thank so much!

I though I saw it on url=https://www.pbpgameday.com/ at the time, but someone put a Gameday 6 announcement on that page. I also can not find something about it in my mail.

Thanks for the clarification, that makes sense. I was indeed thinking about Gallows of Madness, although I might wait until I have played that

Definitely. I'm not expecting anything any time soon. My impression is that I'm in the minority when it comes to PbP speed; the real question is, how big is that minority.

And, it doesn't have to be Sky Key Solution. It could be any. (I've never played Blood Under Absalom, Runecarved Key or Diamond City, so I don't know much about those two. I i might play Diamond City at TPKcon in a month or so, but there's a softball tournament for my local community league that might ace me out of it....)

I believe we have been told that our PFS IDs are the same as for Starfinder.

Yeah, PFS IDs will be used for Starfinder, similarly to how ACG guild works now. I think they said they're going to use *-700 as your first Starfinder character number, but don't quote me on that.

There may be a small problem with the listing of session #32. I've signed up to run Master of the Fallen Fortress. The chronicle sheet says that is only for level 1, but the entry in the session list says levels 1 and 2.

Never mind, I found the applicable explanation in the PFS guide. It is indeed playable at level 1 or level 2.

Sigh... Someone pointed out to me a post by campaign leadership that suggests this was an error in the guide. So it sounds like the description is indeed incorrect.
