Welcome to the Heroic Compendium Open Playtest! We at the newly minted Fedora Ferret Games (so, me) have been hard at work on this project for the last month or so, and while it still has a bit of a ways to go, the mechanics of the book are ready for playtesting! So, what exactly is the Heroic Compendium you ask? Well I'll tell you!

From a broader perspective the Heroic Compendium is a book of mechanics and NPCs wrapped up in a setting agnostic package, sort of like a more compact Villain Codex, designed exclusively for vigilantes. Each section contains a statblock and lore for a heroic vigilante NPC, meant to showcase a new set of talents designed for them.

From a more "I have a compulsion to fix things" perspective, I went into this after a conversation with a friend about how, ultimately, the vigilante's archetypes aren't really that great. I wanted to tackle that and improve on them, give them something more unique. So while I've created one new archetype and a smattering of general talents, somewhere in the range of 80% of the book is dedicated to expanding the unique talent list for the brute, cabalist, gunmaster, zealot and warlock.

So, I invite you to check it out, try it out, and give feedback. While I have turned commenting on I would greatly prefer it if that were used only to point out the inevitable typos and editing errors that come from having only one person on the job, and if actual feedback were to come in on this thread or messaged to me directly.

Lastly, I want to give a big shoutout of thanks to anyone who participates. Y'all are the only reason this has any possibility of working.

Congrats on the grand opening! I will look though this later tonight!

Good to see some free ferretously heroic compendium playtestin' stuff out there. ;)

Silver Crusade

Okay, finally getting around to this.

-Feats of the champion: Can I take one of these before 5th level, or are they 5th level locked? Also it doesn't look like it replaces anything, I'm assuming it replaces the appearance abilities.

-Clothespin: I'm assuming they're entangled as long as they have even 1 arrow pinning them.

-Covering Fire: I like it, feels like the range could be a little longer.

-Nonlethal Targeting: This is a huge amount of feats and pretty early too, I'd probably suggest allowing either ranged trip or disarm, as that's 4 bonus feats for 1 talent.

-Steady Aim: This is actually kind of weak, a move action really kills this for archery. I could see needing a swift here, but this goes into some rather painful territory cost wise.

-Distracting Blow: I'd level limit this, as at 2nd level it's basically a slightly more janky magus. 6th should be fine for it.

-Explosive Transformation: Agreed on no mid battle transformations, it's restrictive until you can change as an immediate action.

-Metamagic Manipulator: I like this, it's like the old 3.5 metamagic stuff.

-Signature Spell: Maybe avoid spells with expensive material components or else you might have issues here.

-Brute Stuff: Seems pretty standard, although a shame that you have to burn a talent to actually use the archetype. Not your fault, although I'd suggest making that a feat rather than a talent for that reason.

-Cabalist Stuff: Agreed that blood drinker is too weak. Blood link is interesting, I do like that, same with cult patron.

I'll read more later, just wanted to start diving into this.
