Meditation Tea Question...

Does meditation tea have to be brewed before use? I bought it thinking it was an alchemical creation (similar to antitoxin and antiplague) that could be quickly drank when needed to combat mind effects...but I've read where other teas have to be brewed and wondered 'bout this one. Is there a definitive answer to this somewhere?

For RP teas would follow the 4 minute steep rule when brewing, but after that the effects would take place after drinking...
...as it is not an elixir nor potion, the effects would not be immediate. You would see this in a Heal check after battle or during downtime.

Thanks, but does that specifically include meditation tea as well? There's no mention having to brew it in its description so I was wondering if it's specifically mentioned anywhere...

Meditation tea is sold in powder form. What you can do is brew it ahead of time and then put it in a waterskin.

Thank you, that makes sense. Do you have a link or a page reference for that? All I can officially find on Meditation Tea is on the Alchemical Remedies table (shown below):

MEDITATION TEA
Price 30 gp; Weight —
Drinking this cloudy tea has a soothing effect that clarifies your thoughts. For 10 minutes after drinking the tea, you gain a +2 alchemical bonus against mind-affecting effects. If you drink meditation tea while suffering from a mind-affecting affect, you may immediately roll another saving throw (with the +2 bonus) against the effect; you may gain this particular benefit only once per day.

Well, a typical beverage serving is what, 8 ounces? 8 ounces of water weighs .5 lbs, this is weightless, so is probably not a ready to drink liquid.

Also, it's tea. Come on, don't be tedious. Brew your tea. They also don't mention having to chew your food. The writer is probably assuming you know how tea works.

Does the tea need to be at a particular temperature to be effective? If so, you would need to brew it soon before you drink it. Otherwise, the idea of brewing it in advance and storing it in a waterskin for later consumption should work.

Dude, antitoxin and antiplague are weightless too...same with padzahr and soul stimulant as well...and they are all in drinkable form...are they any different? Do we have to mix them as well? They're all on the same Alchemical Remedy table as meditation tea...I just want to know if you buy meditation tea for 30 gp and list it in your inventory, is it assumed to be drinkable then or, as David mentions above, do you need to drink it near after the time it's brewed...

I don't think your likely to get a clearly stated ruling on that. Assume the tea works like tea, however you and your group assume tea works.

I agree with you there but thought I'd ask any way...seems like it'll probably vary from group to group so I'll probably end up selling it back...

Brew it beforehand and drink ice tea ;)

Nothing in the rules forbid you this... :p

Possible weight issue though.

As for weight, what about antitoxin and antiplague? They show as having no weight either...one of the reasons I thought the meditation tea had no significant weight was that it must've come pre-concocted in a similar small vial like antitoxin/antiplague...

I mean if you carry it around brewewd and mixed with water, it might increase weight.

Perhaps it is pre-brewed but so potent you only need to drink a small weightless vial's worth. Psychedelics can be like that.

That was my thinking when I bought it...most of the other alchemical remedies seem to be like that...if they had called it something like anti-madness, this wouldn't even be a question...

Are you implying that perhaps Meditation Tea can be smoked instead of drinked ? :D

So a pipe and some cool smoke ring Gandalf style ? :D

Heh. Or maybe injected straight into a vein. Does Golarion have hypodermic syringe technology?

(I was serious about the first suggestion, though.)

Well of course we do.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

"Meditate on this, motherf***er!"

Wait.... if that works with potions, does that mean it counts as ingestion?

Poisoner's Gloves would probably be safer.
