Pathfinder Adventure Card Game

I have a crazy GM who wants to do a 3 class Gestalt game. Advice?

Advice

1 to 50 of 147 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

So basically instead of 2 classes in a Gestalt, it's 3 classes. My first thought was breaking action economy, by being an Arcane Sorcerer/Nature Oracle/Summoner so I can have a Familiar, Bonded Mount (which as I understand, is NOT an Animal Companion because of

Nature Warden:
Requirements
To qualify to become a nature warden, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.

Base Attack Bonus: +4.

Special: Animal companion class feature*, favored terrain class feature, wild empathy class feature.

Skills: Handle Animal 5 ranks, Knowledge (geography) 5 ranks, Knowledge (nature) 5 ranks, Survival 5 ranks.

Spells: Able to cast 2nd-level divine spells.

*An oracle of nature’s bonded mount ability counts as an animal companion class ability for the purpose of this prestige class.

), and an Eidolon. Also, would take Nature Soul>Animal Ally>Boon Companion for an Animal Companion and Summon Guardian Spirit for a Guardian Spirit. Would multiclass into Shadowdancer for a Shadow, and Mammoth Rider for buffs to my Mount. Not sure what the third class would be in the multiclass. I could try Diabolist for an Imp Companion, but I don't like the requirements or the alignment restriction.

I'd take a bunch of feats to improve the Guardian Spirit, such as Versatile Summon Nature's Ally and Augment Summoning to get an additional template on the GS.

So, anyone have any ideas for this?

I personally would play a life oracle/monk (nornkith)/paladin. I was looking at this combo in a regular game, but in a gestalt, you can have all of them at full level.

You take ki channel from erastil to get back 1 ki point per die of channel. You can convert ki to smites or channel with tea of transference. You get CHA+DEX to AC. CHA to hit and deflection when smiting. CHA to saves.

how does favored class bonus work with gestalt? as this is an important question for you cuz if you can get multiple favored class bonuses you could go halfelf with elf/halfling as your parents with racial heritage aasimar with nature shaman, nature oracle and summoner and potentially vmc cleric for the animal domain this would net you a familiar which will also be an animal companion with an effective level of 30, a mount in which you could use as an animal companion with 3 extra levels, an edolon with extra evolutions, and an animal companion at level 20.

alternatively you could go wizard cleric psychic for like all of the spells

or scaled fist monk, enlightened paladin, sacred fist warpriest for literally all of the punching capabilities and massive ac/cmd with no armor

Quibble: I'm pretty sure Nature Warden is saying "having this particular revelation counts as having a 'class feature'" not "this counts as an animal companion." An oracle's bonded mount is certainly an A/C.

(Of course, few classes have an "animal companion" class feature. Druids, for instance, have a "nature bond" class feature they can use to get an A/C. Rangers have a "hunter's bond" class feature that can get an A/C. I'm sure rangers qualifies for Nature Warden anyway, which just goes to show that PrC's prereqs are not terribly well-written.)

Sounds like ALOT of fun. I'd go for...

Invulberable Rager Barbarian (D12 HP, full BaB, rage), Sacred Fist Warpriest (divine magic, swift action buffs, Wis to AC, flurry of blows which works off of BaB), Empheyreal Sorceror (arcane spells, wisdom based)

Great melee, save gold on weapons and armor, divine and arcane

I just wanted to say you cray cray...cray!

Also paladin, monk, war priest of irori.

If 3rd-party is allowed: Warder (possibly dervish defender)/Egoist (with Transmogrofist(sp) alternative) Psion/Empiricist Investigator.

You got:
d12 HD
Full BAB
All three good saves
6 + Int Skill points, with inspiration rolls (Half-elf FCB for extra boost)
All classes work with Str/Int being primary scores (or Dex/Int with a couple feats)
Heavy Armor (base Warder) or Int to AC (Dervish Defender)
Grow giant with nasty natural weapons (the Psion)
No Arcane Spell Failure with either Investigator or Psion

For Wisdom, instead of Int, go Soulknife/Stalker/Psychic Warrior (or Cleric/Stalker/Psychic Warrior if you want magic in the mix)

Charisma? Paladin/Warlord/Wilder

Aegis/Soulknife/Something-else (for when you don't want to bother with spending money on weapons and armor, or AoMF and Bracers of Armor)

I would suggest don't, unless the whole group is ok with your turns taking "forever".

Valandil's right. Also, with a bit more focus you can have a smaller but more effective team.

Rather than sorcerer / oracle / summoner I might go with flame dancer bard / oracle / greenrager bloodrager. You get a mount from the oracle, you can trade a 1st level bloodrager power for a familiar - and that plus your tristalt character, and possibly a summoned guardian spirit will be enough to keep track of.

Bardic performance & oracle spells and revelations can buff your team; a flame dancer gets to let you all see through mist spells, which an oracle can learn. With all good saves and full BAB/d10 HD your familiar will be noticeably more effective. Later on greenrager lets your summons rage too.

You're going to want feats something like these -
1: Mad Magic (to cast while bloodraging)
3: Spell focus (conjuration)
5: Augment Summoning
7: Summon Guardian Spirit
9: Versatile Summon Monster (not v. nature's ally - VSM doeasn't lose the benefit of augment summoning!)
11: Quicken Spell

As you can see there really isn't room for everything you'll want and feats spent on another animal companion too, let alone the prereqs for shadowdancer.

URBAN BARBARIAN (INVULNERABLE RAGER)/FIGHTY(ARCHER)/UNCHAINED ROGUE (KNIFE MASTER/SCOUT)

WIN INITIATIVE, SUNDER SPELLS FROM DISTANCE WITH BOW, TWF WITH DAGGERS, GET SKILL UNLOCKS, HAVE SNEAK ATTACK DAMAGE FOR MAKING THING EVEN MORE DEAD (AND AM GETTING SNEAK ATTACK DAMAGE ON EVERY CHARGE BARBARIAN MAKE, EVEN AFTER GETTING POUNCE), AND HAVE ENOUGH FEATS FOR DOING ALL OF IT. EVEN HAVE 8+INT SP FOR HAVING STEALTH AND PERCEPTION. AM MAYBE NOT THE BEST DAMAGE UNTIL BUILD HITS THIRD LEVEL, BUT AM HAVING POWER ATTACK AND BEING BARBARIAN WHO AM ALSO FIGHTY FOR FIRST TWO LEVELS, AM PROBABLY OKAY. STILL DEFINITELY PUT FAVORED CLASS BONUS INTO BETTER SUPERSTITCHIN.

AM SOUNDING LIKE GOOD TIME TO BARBARIAN.

Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Personally, to "break action economy," I'd go half-elf (for the +1/4 point to the evolution pool per level) cavalier (ghost rider, Order of the Beast)//druid (feyspeaker)//summoner, with Skill Focus (Knowledge ([whatever])) from Adaptability and Eldritch Heritage (Arcane bloodline), for a ghost mount (which can be dismissed and/or recalled easily and can even change shape at 8th level), animal companion, eidolon (or summon monster SLA), and (after 3rd level) a familiar. The full BAB (from cavalier) and 6 + Int mod skill points (from feyspeaker druid), plus the feyspeaker and summoner both being Cha casters, isn't bad either.

Instead of breaking action economy, you could just break the game:

Human (for the extra feat at 1st level) swashbuckler (inspired blade) 1/alchemist//arcanist (blade adept)//wizard (spellslinger). Black blade rapier, with Fencing Grace at 1st level and Spellstrike at 5th level; arcane gun pistol, with Rapid Reload at 1st, Arcane Armor Training (wear a +1 mithral chain shirt; retrain at 9th-10th level for Quicken Spell) and vestigial arm (alchemist discovery) at 3rd and explosive missile (alchemist discovery) at 5th; alchemist for buffing and healing (plus +3/4 BAB), arcanist for cantrips and arcane spells, wizard for even more arcane spells. All "casting" (including extracts) is Int-based and all combat is Dex-based (including rapier); with Int as the casting stat and 4 + Int mod skill points, you can even act as the skill-monkey.

Take one class each that has full BAB, mid BAB, and low BAB. Aim to adequately cover at least five of the major roles: Battlefield Controller, Buffer, Damage Dealer, Debuffer, Healer, Skill Monkey, Tank, and Utility. Do not exceed the blue numbers on this chart.

Keep those principles in mind and your character should be fine.

UnRogue/Swashbuckler/Synthesist Summoner is my vote.
Let's you get plenty of skills, and you can focus on your mental stats while letting your eidolon shell be the Dexterity booster. Sneak attack, Dex to damage, and you can even take archetypes depending on weapon of choice.

Fighter(Mutation Warrior archetype)/Barbarian(Wild Rager archetype)/Bard(Dawnflower Dervish archetype)

Pop your Mutagen, start your performance, and rage. Wipe out everything!

If it were me, I might play Cavalier/Dragoon Fighter/Morphic Savant Summoner

The mounted prowess of the Cavalier, the raw numbers boosting of the Fighter, and Summoner for access to a custom mount auited to your personal specifications. If you went Medium size, the Horse can serve you well until later levels.

If you want to be really silly, the Eidolon can be an Azata for lance proficiency, allowing you to charge on horseback while it charges from a Phantom Steed. And thanks to Morphic Savant, the Eidolon has a mount form as well as a biped rider form.

Scout Rogue makes a suitable replacement for Dragoon Fighter for skill points and extra d6's in charges.

Draconic Sorcerer/Oracle Dragon Mystery/Scaled Fist Unchained Monk

Full Bab/ All good saves/Divine Charisma Casting/Charisma Arcane Casting/Charisma to AC and Stunning Fist/Bonus Feats a whole bunch of other stuff

Dragon's wish they could be like you xD

I love your idea, Durgon, because it's very thematic.

Bonus points for splitting the Draconic Sorcerer levels for Dragon Disciple levels, for increased hit dice and other goodies.

Thanks @Kileanna given my name it seemed appropriate and like it would work o I thought I'd chuck it in xD

@Darksol the Painbringer I don't know how multiclassing as a gestalt works but if it does I think I'd go for the oracle as the prestige because most of the mysteries aren't actually that useful (unsurprisingly their is some overlap) and I'd rather have the arcane spells at the highest level progression over the oracle ones personally.

Not exceeding the blue numbers is maybe fine for a normal number of PCs, it's ok to go above if you only have two PCs.

Anyone know of a way to get monk to go off int?
If so wizard/kensai/monk would be great

I currently have a build in a regular gestalt game (double not tripple)
And the build is what I call "best bodyguard ever"
It's a kensai bladebonded magus/fighter (mutagenic warrior/eldritch guardian)

With your familiar having all your feats both of you could pick an ally to add to the AC of and at 5th level you also get cut from the air

But in this game i'd say that monk rounds that out decently
That or rogue (be sure to snag the bomb discovery and take a 1 level dip in alchemist (mind chemist, vivisectionist) to grab int to damage on splash weapons

Monk advantages: more feats means more powerful familiar and monk means more AC and easier access to style feats, also your familiar would get upgraded unarmed strike and deflect/snatch arrows (in case the cut from the air fails) fast movement is also nice you are clearly going master of many styles because neither you nor your familiar is using flurry

Rogue advantages: can I hear a "sneak attack intensified empowered shocking grasp with a 25%chance to crit (and a 95%chance to confirm)" also 8+int skills per level, bombs make for a very handy ranged weapon backup, bleeding attack forces casters to make concentration checks, decent social stuff for out of combat things. Trapfinding. For s~$$s and giggles use your rogue talents and magus arcana to snag oppurtunity parry/riposte, ranger traps, favored terrain, a combat feat or two, and tbe isruptive
The rogue also has an archetype that splits your sneak attack with your familiar and if you take this I'd say that your familiar could go toe to toe with a regular non gestalt character of your level and probably win.

@ Lord Foul II: It'd be easier to go Orc Blooded Sorcerer/Eldritch Scion Magus/Scaled Fist Monk, so that you're purely Charisma-based, and you have all of the basic stuff from each class meshing quite well.

Similarly, an Empyreal Sorcerer/Druid/UC Monk would be pretty powerful. Full Arcane and Divine Spellcasting, Monk Goodies, Wildshape Goodies, and so on. Tack on VMC Barbarian, and you can do anything except disarm magical traps. (Because Rogues gotta be able to do something that nobody else can...)

Shadow Lodge

Orc bloodline sorcerer and eldritch scion don't get the crazy number of attacks of oppurtunity or the number of feats that my build needs to work to get the bodyguard stuff to work
And it doesn't have the familiar

Aaaaand with rogue/magus/fighter you just need int and dex to always go first, never get hit with ranged attacks and kick major ass

Fair enough. However, the Orc Bloodline (with Blood Havoc and eventually Blood Intensity, adding +2 damage per dice and additional dice equal to Charisma) combined with the Magus' mechanics would one-shot any potential baddies he comes across.

Bonus points if you have a flexible GM who allows the Blood Arcanist to have access to Bloodline Mutations, since you can boost your CL and Save DCs even further, and take things like School Understanding (Admixture) so you can effectively bypass immunities/resistances altogether for more net damage.

Of course, my favorite Triple Gestalt combination is Man/Bear/Pig...

I have two fun ideas for this:

Fighter/Zen Archer/Inquisitor take the two most powerful archer builds and now add bane to them. Warpriest is also viable.

The 2nd one just seems fun to me. Not necessary as strong: Fighter/Unchained Rogue/Wizard(or Magus). It depends on your DM a bit which direction you go. It can be built as melee or ranged and the spell choices depend greatly on what the DM will allow. IF the DM allows Weapon Focus Melee or ranged touch (And follow on feats) You can go Melee on shocking Grasp or Ranged on Snowball. Race Elf, Favored class bonus on rogue to get an extra snowball or Shocking grasp per day. On the Wizard side you have a couple choices you can either go a more normal caster and have fun with that or build 100% for your little spell use magical knack trait and metamagic feats + the Preferred Spell and then be able to grab or throw magic at people to death at will with increasing deadly version of your level 1 spell. (As well as prepare a slue of answer spells in case you need them) Since your an elf you can chose Elven curved blade as your Finesse weapon, arcane bond to that weapon (Starting with a free Masterwork Elven Curved blade) getting dex to hit and damage.

If you go ranged spell route your a credible ranged combat, Credible melee combat, Full arcane caster, get to enchant your weapon at half cost, skills to answer problems. Require Dex and some Int (Int only really needs to be minimum to cast spells cause save DC's aren't important. At spell perfection the effects of Weapon focus and weapon Specalisation Double so that adds some punch.

There is an argument for Magus on the build but I prefer the power of the wizard.

Also if the GM allows Weapon Specialization to apply to each ray Scorching ray becomes an amazing basis for this build.

Shadow Lodge

Darksol, youra build has more magical attack, mine has more martial attack and more defense (just blatantly more defense)
Also my build totally has enough feats to make picking up eldritch heritage (orc) totally viable

My build has more dragon. :3

Shadow Lodge

You could instead build the ultimate archer
Alchemist (grenaider)/ranger(trapper)/magus (myramadorch)
Previous version had zen archer instead of magus, but the recent bow vs dr eratra nerfed them hard so it's better to hit with a few shots really really hard instead of flurry of blows now

But this build could hit someone with arrow damage (maybe bleeding or special material or Drow poison), a ranger trap, and a scorching ray or ray of enfiblement every round

The bow would also be enchanted by your magus arcanist

Shadow Lodge

Happy Durgon wrote:

yes and while that is fun I would like to point out that in gestalt duplicate abilities overlap not stack

The only overlap I see is the mystery and bloodline capstone and a couple bloodline/mystery spells...

Shadow Lodge

The claw attack for one.
But you have a point
On second glance there is less overlap than I thought

Lord Foul II wrote:

The Orc Bloodline powers are meh, which makes the Eldritch Heritage feats meh.

really? Immunity to fear, bonus to natural armor an eventual untyped +6 str and a special large size transformation for more Str is "meh"?

(The first power is damn near always meh)

Lord Foul II wrote:

One claw attack comes from a mystery choice, as in you don't have to get it unless you want it, also they both have 3+Cha turns per day so I'd assume they ran off separate pools for each classes set of claws.

Not that I'd get them on the sorc anyway, I'd rather have Blood Havoc.

I actually have a Dragon Oracle who took Eldritch Heritage Draconic to get a second pool of claws usage. Lol.

Shadow Lodge

Fair enough!
I can admit when I was wrong!

First off, you have reduced progression, and you won't get Fear Immunity until much later. The Natural Armor bonus is decent, but starting out it's the equivalent of a Dodge feat. Later on, it's an Armor of the Pit equivalent, which is better but for some it's still questionable for taking.

Second off, the Strength Bonus is Inherent, so it won't stack with a Manual (or 5 consecutive Wish spells). It'll save you money from getting a manual (since it's actually better), but there comes a point where it won't stack. The size bonus will hinder you defensively, but boost you offensively, and even that varies.

Lastly, both combinations you suggested will function better being Dexterity-based than Strength-based, since Dervish Dance is a thing, and I imagine you'd take UCRogue over the classic Rogue like everyone else does. Which makes ANY of those Strength bonuses useless, since all they'd do for you is give carrying capacity.

Trust me, I know when something is "meh."

Shadow Lodge

Actually what I was using was going dex to hit and str to damage using the advanced weapon training to get 1.5x weapon training bonus

But yes for this one build it's somewhat meh
Usually it's amazing

You guys are crazy. I love a lot of these ideas. Anyways, my new idea.

(Mad Dog) Barbarian/(Primal Companion) Hunter/Lunar Mystery Oracle

Be Aasimar. Gain 1/6 bonus on Primal Companion Revelation. Get Prophetic Armor for Cha in place of Dex on AC and Reflex. Dex, Wis, and Int are dump stats.

Take Celestial Servant so my Wolf will be Celestial. Take Oracle Curse of Lycanthropy (tuned to wolves).

Not the best thing in the world for the player, as there is no synergy on main stat here, but I can get an Animal Companion that has DR, shares in my Rages (when I take a specific Rage Power), Eidolon Evolution Points, and is a higher level than normal thanks to Oracle.

If anybody can come up with a better idea for a super powerful single companion (any kind will work), I'd like to hear it.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

There's basically two schools of thought on gestalt/tristalt/etc characters. You can either aim to do the same thing much better than usual (Fighter/Zen Archer/Inquisitor), or you can really diversify your build and try to accomplish more roles without necessarily being much above normal in any of them. I prefer the latter, myself - it's kinda hard to compensate for PCs with powers too far beyond what the system expects, and I like being able to solve many kinds of problems when I play. XD

Hmm maybe you could do those same things you did with a drake rider paladin?

One big companion. OK.

An eidolon is a better starting point IMO. Better BAB, better skills, actual intelligence, evolutions. Either a half-elf w/wild caller archetype for lots of evolution points, or an aasimar w/naturalist for animal focus (& later the planar focus feat) and DR/evil from the favored class bonus.

Clerics with the right variant channelling can buff with a spell as a standard action (including personal-only spells via the summoner's share spells) then quick channel as a move action for another buff. You expressed an interest in winning the action economy.

Last but not least a bard can add bardic performance to the buffs you're layering on this creature.

Your main character is still mostly cha-focused, has 9-level divine casting and a couple different 6-level casting types, all good saves and 6 skill points/level with versatile performance.

I would love an introductory pamphlet.

I'd personally go with a fighter/warpriest/avenger vigilante. All good saves, 6+int skill points, casting, bonus feats for days, full attack on a charge, self healing, weapon buffing, blessing utility, advanced weapon & armor training bonuses.

Shadow Lodge

I wouldn't go avenger vigilante there
Too much overlap for me
Buy yes advanced weapon/armor trainings are amazing

Mad Rush - the talent that lets you take a full attack action on a charge - is Avenger only.

That makes it worth it so far as I'm concerned.

Shadow Lodge

Then be a barbarian and get the same thing but also have rage
