Can theologian use 'preferred spell (fireball)' feat for non-domain slots?

Rules Questions

For example: Fire domain theologian cleric casts fireball spontaneously by sacrificing a prepared dispel magic spell.

I know other clerics can't use preferred spell feat in that way. But, theologian can use non-domain slots for domain-only spells. So I ask, plz.

(Sorry. I can't find obvious answer in this board until now)

Why can't all clerics use it that way? AFAIK your preferred spell just has to be one you have the ability to cast, it doesn't matter where from.

f a domain spell is not on the cleric spell list, a cleric can prepare it only in her domain spell slot.

As a cleric can prepare a domain spell only in a domain slot, it is questionable if he can fuel it with a non domain slot when using preferred spell.

But the Theologian Archetype is special that way.

Yes, Ruath asked about that, but I was replying to Fuzzy-Wuzzy.

Currently I am playing a cleric of Cayden, so I have 2 very interesting spells at level 3 from my domains: fly and good hope, so I am curious to see if there is a way to memorize them or cast them using non domain slots when playing a regular cleric.

Thanks, Diego. Then here's my take on the OP's question.

It seems to me that there's still an argument to be made that regular clerics could use Preferred Spell (domain spell) by sacrificing non-domain slots, because that's not quite what clerics are barred from. With the case being arguable even for regular clerics, I think theologians are definitely in the clear.

Someone want to take the contrary position?

For a change I actually completely agree with you. Preferred Spell looks like even regular clerics might use it on domain spells, although that looks like an oversight of the writer.

I can't really call the accidental ability for a cleric to use a spell from his domain list a real problem.

Personally, I've always thought it was dumb that they could only cast those spells once per day (effectively) since they only got 1 domain slot. Now by spending a feat and sacrificing an equivalent level spell you can cast the spell multiple times per day.

Maybe not intended, but I don't see a problem.

Thanks for your replies.

Once our GM decided theologian can't use preferred spell feat in that way because of 'this post'.
