Hey All You Magnificent PFS Piddlespotters--

As most of you know, I believe PFS's core is a social community and so whether you can make it to Paizocon or not, I hope that you will participate.

In the past, we've detailed our games, our meets, our greets, and our beerings. There are some good memories stored up in the threads of yesterPFS:

2011 PFS PaizoCon Bloggery
2012 PFS PaizoCon Bloggery (w/Grand Convocation and massive Banquet spoilers)
2013 PFS PaizoCon Bloggery (w/GenCon Special Run)
2014 PFS PaizoCon Bloggery
2015 PFS PaizoCon Bloggery
2016 PFS PaizoCon Bloggery (w/Starfinder announcement)

And this year, we get Starfinder and that could be really cool. I hope that some of our attendees will offer some notes from whatever experiences and seminars they attend.

For you attendees:

  • Post about whom you've met and where they are from.
  • Post about the games you're playing in, with whom, and fun details. (Avoid spoilers...and use spoiler tags if you're going to spoil!)
  • Post about extraPFSular activities.
  • Get others to share their feedback from PaizoCon.
  • Post links to pictures and media.
  • Post about neat characters you've played with.
  • Post any cool 'tricks' you've learned.
  • Post about the sessions and talks you've attended.
  • Post about how awesome your judges have been and what things they did well. Heck, even thank them.

For you non-attendees:

  • Tell us what sessions you want reports from;
  • Questions you want us to ask and to whom;
  • Things you want to know about;
  • Give lip/guff/sass/snark to PFS board personalities you know (or don't...either way, sass is encouraged).

I, like usual, promise nothing...except that I'll be twisting some arms of people here to join me in describing their experience playing PFS and Starfinder, and the ACG this weekend and the people that make it happen.

-Pain

Everyone HAVE A GREAT TIME! Sorry I couldn't join you this year, but my memories of PaizoCon are pleasant ones nestled deeply in my mind.

As always, I'm particularly keen to see if they plan to do anything with their web site. I know that's not their focus, but sometimes they let slip something of their priorities.

Play-by-post doesn't get enough love (personal opinion), so those of you who are hardcore PbPers, get out there and spread the word to the staff so they know we're out here just as rabid about our hobby as the face-to-facers.

And thanks to Painlord for doing the blog again!

So, to kick this off:

I arrived at the hotel on monday and am setteling in well. This is my first time in the USA, so there are some differences to get used to. Like, why is there so much water im the toilets? Why is the bread so weird? And why is all the coffee so disapointing?

I have brought Stroopwafels for every table I am attending. And a good amount of licorice.

I have a full scedule starting off on thursday afternoon with an early game, and ending monday afternoon with a late game.
I will keeo you all informed about what develops.

I'll be getting in around 11am-ish tomorrow, assuming flights and everything go well!

A number of the MN lodge will be arriving at SeaTac around noon and have a 1pm kick-off table planned. Now I'm busy remembering how certain characters work as I've been out of PFS play for about a month and a half. Currently open for review: my courier occultist archer that outruns horses.

Uh, sorry about the coffee. It's more a function of proximity to the airport rather than a testament to the quality of the coffee in Seattle.

Yeah, you can expect less-good coffee from the hotel Starbucks...but maybe you'll get out to a Peets or some quality Blue Bottle or Stumptown or something worthwhile. If I recall correctly, the hotel buffet has good coffee. Hopefully that hasn't disappointed.

Water in the toilets? Uh...can't really explain. Maybe because water falls from the sky here all the time, that's how it done.

Bread? Hmm...can't say.

I grew up (and am still in) Canada, which is much like the US, but I fully agree about the bread and coffee. Our solution is to make our own in each case. There is good bread and coffee (and beer) in the US, but you are less likely to find it at a hotel. If you spend some time in Seattle, you should be able to find something satisfactory.

If you're asking this in Seattle, then I really don't know what to tell you...

From what I understand, we over-roast our coffee as a rule here in the US, which makes it taste very bitter to Europeans. I have not had the chance to try coffee in Europe myself, though, to compare.

Well, Starbucks does, for sure. And many places don't use enough coffee when they brew, getting the less tasty elements pulled in, making it more sour and bitter.

I tell you what, the bagels at the continental breakfast ($15 for coffee, juice, bagel, yogurt buffet) are pretty darn good. They are nicely chewy and make me happy.

Ah, convention season.

If one watches carefully, the Painlord (Pathfinderus Painlordus) can be observed leaving its normal environs and embarking on its annual migration to PaizoCon (or rarely, the fabled GenCon). Once there, the Painlord will begin its famous "Blogging Call" which will attract many others of the Pathfinder species to echo it - generally bringing either joy (or jealousy) to all who observe this phenomenon!

(Jealous over here that PaizoCon is well beyond my travel range. Hope you all have fun out there!)

That's the kind of portent that makes sane people turn around and hide in their basement for the weekend.

I got in yesterday. Went out to Bellevue to meet up with local friends for "the best Szechuan in Washington." It did not disappoint. The fact that the ice-cream parlor I was told was "amazing" was closed for the night did disappoint. Coming from the sprawling American South (Atlanta then Dallas-Fort Worth) I heartily approve of Seattle's transit system. It may require bus changes and be confusing to a non-local but at least you can get from Sea-Tac to non-downtown Bellevue without a car.

Slept til about 9:30 this morning. Just met Andy Christian and HMM in the lobby; looking forward to playing in Tineke's game with HMM this afternoon. The rest of the weekend involves lots of PFS, a Call of Cthulhu game with James Jacobs, and general skullduggery making new friends.

So my wife and I pulled in via train this morning with the MN crew that decided to roll instead of fly. But our Con started on Wednesday as we played the first part of Thursty's Ire of the Storm. Met Tineke for the first time and ran into Kevin, Scott and Russ so far.

My iPad just ate a post. Retyping, blargh.

Things are going well, and having fun. I've already gotten to see and greet lots of people. Neil Spicer, and the ineffable Thurston Hillman, with firm handshakes all around.
Got to give a hug to, and sit down and catch up with cartographer extraordinaire Anna Meyer, since it's been eight years since we last saw each other. She's doing great work with both Lone Wolf Publishing and Kobold Press, if memory serves.

There's a steady stream of folks arriving now, and every time I pass the front desk there's folks I know, but names I can't recall. Neil had to help me remember Will Chase and Heather Payne's names (Paizo staffers, both), because I'm so bad at that.

Looking forward to seeing the first things creeping out into hallways, since the staff is already here and setting up, and there's sure to be banners and signs and stuff out with geeky goodness for snapshots.

Wow.

Let me confess to more than my usual ignorance, but I think that there are not one, not two, but 3 (Three!! AH HA HA!) different space settings now, and they are all being played in once shape or another at PaizoCon?

We have Starfinder, which I mostly get and hope to see this weekend.

We have Aethera, which has some games running.

And we have Cow-on-a-Cliff, wait no, Legendary (Ledge-End-Dairy) Planet?

I'm not sure I get all of them yet and what they all represent. Can anyone explain? I believe I'll be playing in the Cow-Cliff Caper on Sunday and want to know what I'm getting into.

Just did the rounds of the common areas: saw many groups of recognizable yahoos hanging. There are 4 PFS games going in the Evergreen rooms and Paizo Staff is setting up the event space.

We are officially not learning anything

The Exchange 3/5

Made a mistake to enter the bar. Found a table with a bunch of drunks happy souls.

Al Rigg, Andrew H, Jack Brown, Kate Baker, Adam (from Ottawa/SF Hunter's Point), & Lake County's own Gary Peppers yakking it up and drinking at a rate that I can't keep up with. (I haven't started yet.)

They are all complaining about how many GM stars they have. I'm so outclassed.

I'm running the 10-11 table of Solstice Scar tonight in the slot zero. I hope I can remember what it's about.
