Mummys Mask AP *Recruitment*

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 134 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

1 person marked this as a favorite.

- Characters are level 1
- Average starting wealth
- All Classes allowed
- Standard races only
- NO third party publishing sources allowed!
- All other Paizo books will be allowed
- 2 traits one of which has to be a campaign trait from the Mummy's Mask players guide. You have a drawback for another trait but must be written into your background. In addition another trait has been added (see below)
- 20 point buy with no stat above 18 or below 8
- Recruitment will be based more on RP than class preferences
- Khopesh will be a martial weapon in this region. with a caveat if your not from Orison it will still be longsword.
- We will be using background skills.
- Hit Points shall be determined in PFS style - maximum at first level, average +1 for all subsequent levels.
- There is a free feat available to any who fulfill the prerequisites. Please have a reason for it in your background, if only a mention. Osirionology
-There is an excellent listing of the ancient Osirion gods in book two of the AP. Given that, anyone who has Ancient Osirioni among their languages, may worship one of these deities. I will provide you the information you need.
- Please pay more attention to your background than your build. I am far more interested in who you are than what you are.
- in addition to traits listed in the players guide there will also be one additional trait. (Ancient tradition of Osirion)- benefit only casters can take it. You have a red dot on your head if you are arcane and blue if divine. you will gain +1 to dip and +1 intimidate, and one of these can be a class skill. due to the nature of the dot it cannot be concealed but is well resected because it shows formal training or approval from a known school of Osirion tradition.
- evil characters will even be considered but only in terms of evil greed, lust, power, etc. not betrayal to your group. your character must be loyal to his friends or cohorts.
- Will be using escalated Fear rules in Horror adventures.
-Gunslingers and firearms are welcome and will be used.

I will give at least two weeks on recruitment and time for people to build characters.
I will also be recruiting people or to replace people at the end of each book and work them in. With first preference to those in the story already but that will give people a chance to leave or come back or replace missing players. if we lose people in the campaign I will just adjust the CR encounters until the end of the book. along with that, any character changes that someone wants to do they can have a opportunity at the end of each book. I am looking for 5-6 players to start.

Background:

1) I'd like 5+ points that capture the concept and story of the character. More are welcome, but no less than five.
2) Two goals that you'd like the character to accomplish in-game.
3) Two secrets, one the PC keeps to himself, and one kept from the PC. I'll come up with a third that both the character and player aren't aware of, in hopes of shocking surprises within the storytelling.
4) 3-5 people that are tied to your PC by blood, love, rivalry, honor, etc. I'd like at least one enemy in a set of three or four, with no more than two for a set of five. PLEASE consider the players reference guide for ideas.
5) Three key memories that define your character as the person they are at the time of submission.
6) Finally, I'd like you to include with your submission a fear or paranoia that causes your character to shiver, cower, or panic. Anything from spiders to unexplained happenstance, but I'm sure you'll all come up with some awful stuff on your own.

Adventure start-

a caravan heading toward Wati to participate in the exploration of the necropolis. that can only be explored for a few days. that has been closed to the populous for a long time, researchers and explorers are all heading there for a chance. all the characters will start off by the fire introducing themselves.

Dotting

I have 2 possible concepts
1. Scion of Anubis. Paladin
2. Zeelex. Either a nagaji druid or snake riding cavalier

Side note : only core races or others allowed thats not too out there?

Only core races.

Okay. Will make a human paladin of anubis

Dark Archive

Dot, hmm... Evil allowed? I'm thinking an Elven Rouge who's really greedy but otherwise a team player. He backstabs, cheats, lies, and otherwise acts like a complete arse, but he knows best than to kill his own allies.

Second opinion is a Dwarven Cleric to Anubis, Lawful Neutral but stubborn as stone.

Although I'm debating whether it should be Dwarf, Elf, or human... Perhaps half elf.

I know, I'll make a Half-Drow Cleric to Anubis.

Here is my Alias for the Half-Drow, working on her as I post ^-^

Silver Crusade

i'll put something together, working on the build ideas but the background i have is a bit more thoughout at the moment.

the idea is he is a human orphan raised by an elven paladin, after her tragic death. He ran away, forsaking what he was taught and putting himself wholly into his work and travels.

he is a historian, inventor, and alchemist.

class, most likely human alchemist with some archetype.

most likely True neutral or neutral good.

Liberty's Edge

I am interested in playing a Juju oracle, if allowed. I know she will probably class with any other priest in the group, but if you are ok with that, then I would like to try it! Oh, and she will be a follower of Set...maybe

Just a Question, would Anubis have the Ansestor subdomain for Repose? It fits his ideals well and also those of actual Egyptian mythos.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens Subscriber

Dot, with a Human Expulsionist Inquisitor of Pharasma in the planning phase.

dot, planning on a catfolk worshiper of bast, not sure what class, probably a unchained rouge or something simmilar.

Although catfolk are native to the region, I'm afraid the Gm said that it's core races only

Dot

Luuther was designed for a Mummy's Mask game that lost it's DM early. I'll take him back to level 1.

Yes that's Good.

Jazar's character sheet is now finished. While it is too late for me to work on his background now, the premise is the following:

Jazar's mother was possessed while in labor and both she and the unborn Jazar nearly died, but were saved in time by the midwife, who was also a priest of Pharasma. Jazar's mother decided to dedicate her son to the Lady of Graves and had him tutored in the faith of Pharasma, especially on the protection from haunts, ghosts and similar possessing creatures, so that he will prevent others from experiencing what happened to her. After years of theoretical training and learning, the opening of the ancient gravesites gives Jazar the opportunity he's been looking for to test his skills, do Pharasma's bidding and make his mother proud.

Introducing Marius Vorloren, Human Bard (archaeologist). The seventh son of a seventh son of a Taldan noble house who stands to inherit nothing but the family name. Emulating his favored Uncle he sets out to earn his fame and fortune the hard way, by stealing it.

Alrighty, Julias will have the Ansestor subdomain than.

Scarab Sages

Dot.

I'm thinking about a Human Medium archetype Witch. Either the Mummy-Cursed or Resurrected campaign trait. Maybe drawn from Rahadoum to the tomb openings like a bee to honey.

*sigh* the gods of Paizo hate me! They ate my awesome background that I now have to completely redo!!!!

*Sigh* well, ^-^ at least this time I can do better.

I'll tentatively dot here while I work on an idea. How do you feel about necromancers? Ordinarily I shy away from them for story's sake (as well as party cohesion), but I feel like exploring an ancient tomb would be right up a necromancer's alley, and it wouldn't be as disruptive as animating corpses in the middle of a big city. This would likely mean a technically evil alignment because of the nature of necromancy, but they'd be completely a team player and willing to look out for the group. By waking up a few bodies for extra protection. ;)

I'll be back with a Wizard Diviner tomorrow. I'll read the Player's guide to make it appropriate to this campaign.

Alrighty, here is my background for ease of access as well as to ask for advice from others on the matter

Background/personality:

Although she was born in Osirion, Julias's mother was Drow and her father A devout Cleric of Anubis. Her father wanted her to learn the ways of his good, and her mother wanted her to know of her Noble bloodline. For the first 10 years if her life she learned of her Drow heritage and her place above the normal people of the surface, how she was superior to them all simply because if her Drow blood. Yet it was at that time that her mother left, mysteriously without a word. Her father took over her care and showed her the power of the Old gods. He drilled the Language of the old gods into her head and made sure she knew every word there was to know, he told her of the people of Osirion, the gods they worshipped, but most of all he taught her the will of Anubis.

When she came of age, her father began to teach her to use his Khopesh, promising if she learned to use it that it would become hers. So she worked diligently between her cleric studies and prayers to use the blade with a shield. Her father found her lack of strength disappointing, but still cheered her on. Finally when she turned 18 he gave her the sword and let her keep it. The next two years consisted mostly of finishing her cleric studies.

Although she wasn't trained by an official church or Monastery, she was a very skilled Cleric of Anubis, proud and honored to be following the will of her God.

Appearance
The first thing anyone who meets her will notice is her pure ebony skin, something that passed well down from her mother. The only thing that betrays her half blood is her stocky body and accent. Her eyes are pure white and her hair is a silvery gray. She is a little husky, not quite fat but not slim either. Her face is smooth and elven, with the roundness of a human rounding it out.

Her clothes are generally well cared for, and she makes sure she always appears prim and proper to match her status. Unfortunately this is all from her smug attitude. She considers almost everyone she meets as idiots or dupes. Those that spend a lot of time with her see the better side of her attitude at times, but still tend to deal with her scowls and disappointed looks. She generally walks around with a frown on her face, only smiling at her father or close friends.

Personality
Although most see that hard disappointed extiror, under it all is a kind and caring person. She generally cares very much about friends and family, and if anything ever happened to them she would do anything to make it right. Even if it means breaking her oath to the gods.

She has several fears, mostly she is afraid of losing those close to her. She hates the idea of loving someone only to lose them, and will frantically do anything to keep that from happening. Unfortunately this doesn't extend to everyone, and she often cares nothing for the poor or even sick.
She also has a fear of spiders(of all things) and will frantically try to kill them in any way possible. This fear actually comes from the stories her mother told her, of evil eight legged monsters from the darklands...

1) 1-Julias's mother was a Drow Noble, who taught her that she was better than everyone else because of her Noble blood. Julias remembers this and treats everyone condescendingly because if it. 2-Julias's father is a Devout follower if the old gods and is a great fighter(he's a Fighter/cleric multi-class). He wants his daughter to be just as devout and teaches her his skills as a cleric, also giving her his Khopesh as an Heirloom to his blood. 3- Julias's mother left her at the age of 10 because she was running from her family, whom she betrayed a long time ago to help a party of adventures, one(Julias's father) of whom she fell in love with. She ran in hope that her family wouldn't go looking for her daughter and husband. 4- Julias was taught by her father love and compassion for family and honor, this makes her more attached to those she loves and cares for, wanting only to protect them, even if it cost her everything else. 5-Julias wants to help discover more about her faith, following in her father's footsteps as an adventurer, seeking out treasure and glory for her family- unfortunately this might bring the attention of some Drow on the lookout for her mother.

2) 1- I'd like my character to become friends with the party, letting them see past her gruff and Condecending attitude to see her loving and caring heart. This will allow for some emotional struggle if any of them become overly hurt or even killed. 2- I want to have fun. I've never played this AP before and want to know all the secrets it has ^-^ building a story within a story to Create a great time for us all

3) 1-Julias keeps a Ring from her mother, the ring is her family's Signet ring, and is almost instantly recognized by anyone Familiar with the family. The ring used to be magical but the magic has long been dispelled to keep the Drow from tracking it magically. 2- Julias's mother left mysteriously because her family was moving in on her. She had to leave to keep her daughter safe. Unfortunately the Drow are still in the area looking for Julias's mother, who was successful in drawing most of the attention away. Those Drow that remain look for things to use against her.

4) 1-Her mother: A Drow Noble who is currently on the run from her family to keep Julias safe from the drow. She cares deeply for her daughter and will stop at nothing to keep her safe. 2-Her father: a Devout of Anubis and the old gods, he is kind and compassionate yet also gruff and tough. He loves Julias and her mother, but keeps his emotions under control. Knows nothing if the Drow chasing his wife. 3- the Drow Family: The whole reason her mother left was to keep these monsters from torturing her just to make her mother suffer. They are only a few in the area, mostly just to keep an eye out in case Julias's mother returns.

5)1- the stories if her mother. They're everything from stories of love to horror stories about spiders and demons. They where ment to teach Julias she was great as a noble, yet that her blood can be her downfall if ever she falls into the hands of the Drow. 2-Her father's training. She remembers everything about her father's words when she taught her how to use the Khopesh. She even still tells herself to keep balance and make wide arcs with the curved blade like her father told her. 3- The last time she saw her mother. Her mother left her without much explanation, but the last time she saw her was before she was put to sleep. Her mother was dressed in her usual clothes, her hair loose and long. Her smile sweet, yet in her eyes was a hint of sadness. Julias doesn't know what that was about, but she remembers it in full detail.

6) Although she has a fear of spiders it is nothing compared to the fear of losing those she loves. Of at any time someone she cares about falls, she freazes. She won't move, overwhelmed by the loss, she will just stand there, lost in space and greif until someone snaps her out if it, then she will stop at nothing to change it.

With Evil on the table, I almost want to run an Antipaladin of Sekhmet. Not that he's actually be Evil-evil, more of an amoral mercenary who lives to kill. I'll think about it.

Hi DM,

Thanks for hosting. Your opening post was very informative. However, can you tell me what the posting expectations are for the game?

How often will players be required/encouraged to post?

Thanks again for hosting,

Fabian

@Rennaivx- I think a necromancer will fit great with the campaign.

@Fabain- I expect at least once a day, with a little more flex during the weekend. but when combat is involved there is a 24 hour must post or lose action for round.

@everyone where I don't mind one or two Evil with the correct background. there wont be more than that, so unless you got a great team oriented concept for evil I would recommend more good classes. because a lot of people are saying evil. with some people playing evil I don't want to take away from anyone who might wanna play paladins class. so care where at least it seems like your the redemption kind of evil. (where there is always some hope for you where paladins wont kill you outright.)

Tentative dot, if I don't make your Carrion Crown gang.

Liberty's Edge

Ok, dropping the necromancer idea and going for a fighter who will, I hope become a living monolith....looks like we might need more tanks!

Cool! I'll start putting something together and let you know once I'm finished. (Right now, I'm thinking a Rahadoumi woman so thoroughly unnerved by her own near-death experience that she's turned to studying necromancy and conjuration magics to attempt to avoid having to experience it again, and attuned by that experience to the psychic energy of the dead. Occultist, possibly necroocultist archetype.) Since you're shying away from an all-evil party, is it all right if I put together a non-evil character as well in order to better my odds?

EDIT: Also, how do you feel about VMC? Really, I mostly want it to be able to pick up an oracle curse like Wasting. I wish there was a way to pick up oracle curses without VMC.

Julias is Neutral but has both elements of evil and good. Yes she channels positive energy and such but she's kinda an arse to those she isn't close to...

Dotting for interest; currently intend to submit a human life oracle.

I'm shaping up a steel hound investigator, I'll post his info when I've had a chance to HeroLab it.

Grand Lodge

I am going to build a Paladin, never played one, he will be going for Knight of Ozem Preistege class

I rolled up a character for a Mummy's Mask AP before that never took off the ground and loved the idea, Human Bladebound/Kensai. I know the Bladebound/Kensai combination is pretty common but I've yet to play one and really loved the idea of the Bladebound weapon having intelligence. I figured it would fit into the campaign since he wouldn't get his weapon until level 3 and it could be "found" within whatever dungeon that we're exploring. In the other campaign I had even come up with the idea for it to be "cursed" in the sense that it might attach itself to him or something, causing that to become a plot point for my character.

The character hasn't been developed in awhile but here's what I can fill out of your application form and more can be added if this character sounds like he's on the right track for your campaign.

1) I'd like 5+ points that capture the concept and story of the character. More are welcome, but no less than five: A greedy treasure hunter who comes across a fancy sword, only to find out that it's cursed and is now part of him.
2) Two goals that you'd like the character to accomplish in-game: Find enough treasure to buy his own ship. Get rid of his cursed blade.
3) Two secrets, one the PC keeps to himself, and one kept from the PC. I'll come up with a third that both the character and player aren't aware of, in hopes of shocking surprises within the storytelling: He keeps to himself that he betrayed his last group of friends since he doesn't want to be kicked out (and also doesn't betray them for that reason, so there will be no betrayal in-game from me). The secret kept from the PC, and also the one kept from me, can be tied into his Bladebound weapon.
4) 3-5 people that are tied to your PC by blood, love, rivalry, honor, etc. I'd like at least one enemy in a set of three or four, with no more than two for a set of five. PLEASE consider the players reference guide for ideas: As a treasure hunter I wanted him to have lots of enemies but we can settle for 2/5 being enemies. No Levar used to have a team he rolled with but ended up betraying them and disappearing. Two members (who I can come up with) hate him and want to hunt him down while the last member is actually his brother (or sister) who still cares for him but can't overlook his betrayal. Not quite hatred though. Will come up with 2 remaining people.
5) Three key memories that define your character as the person they are at the time of submission: The memory of No Levar turning his back on his friends and running off with their loot. The memory of watching his parents being killed by orcs.
6) Finally, I'd like you to include with your submission a fear or paranoia that causes your character to shiver, cower, or panic. Anything from spiders to unexplained happenstance, but I'm sure you'll all come up with some awful stuff on your own: We'll go with a classic "orcs killed my parents" routine which causes him to react quite negatively to that particular race.

Dot.

Going to be a trapfinder, probably crypt breaker alchemist, we'll see what I can come up with on the backstory front.

Jazar's appearance, personality and background are now up for your consideration.

hmm...I'll dot for interest. I'll probably consider a dwarf stonelord (paladin racial archetype). Unless archetypes aren't allowed (not seeing anything that says so)

This is Torsuuk Sandhammer, dwarf stonelord of Abadar, character submission from KoolKobold. Always thought this racial paladin archetype was unique, and wanted to play it with a Mummy's Mask AP (since I think the concept of an earth paladin can tie in quite nicely with this AP).

1) I'd like 5+ points that capture the concept and story of the character. More are welcome, but no less than five: A stonelord of the Master of the First Vaults has come to Osirion to find the treasures in the necropalis of Wati-not only to return the lost treasure to the country, but to also destroy the undead abominations who dare to keep the treasures for themselves.

2) Two goals that you'd like the character to accomplish in-game: Remove Wati from it's necromatic taint, and to prove himself as a devotee to Abadar.

3) Two secrets, one the PC keeps to himself, and one kept from the PC. I'll come up with a third that both the character and player aren't aware of, in hopes of shocking surprises within the storytelling: The secret that Torsuuk keeps is that he is somewhat ashamed of being a dwarf stonelord yet not worshiping Torag-this had made him a disgrace to his father, so much that he has all but disowned the dwarf stonelord. The secret kept from him could be that the father that he knows is not his biological father-his true father died while fighting against orcs. (cliche, maybe, but that's the best I could come up with)

4) 3-5 people that are tied to your PC by blood, love, rivalry, honor, etc. I'd like at least one enemy in a set of three or four, with no more than two for a set of five. PLEASE consider the players reference guide for ideas: Hmm...this I'll have to work on more, but I have a basic idea for 3 people tied to him, and one enemy. One of the people tied to him the most is his mother-through despite the hardships of his training, and the disdain he held from his father, she still loved and supported him, making her the most important person to him. Then there is his tutor-a Adabaran priest who not only taught him the ways of the Master of the First Vault, but also to allow his own beliefs to merge with the god's beliefs, rather than trading one over the other. The third important person would be an old stonelord dwarf of Torag-a native from the Five Mountain Kingdoms, he moved to Osirion for his last adventure, which ended badly; ever since, he has lived in the desert country, and was the one who showed Torsuuk his potential to be a new stonelord. His enemy would be a female inquisitor of Norgorber; she had longed to be a stonelord herself, but for some reason or another, she could not accomplish this goal. She believes that Torag has prevented her from being who she wants, and thus has abandoned her faith in the dwarven god and has turned her faith to Norgorber, hunting down every single stonelord she can find (with the full philosophy that if she can't be a stonelord, no other dwarf can be one either).

5) Three key memories that define your character as the person they are at the time of submission: Being accepted into Abadar's church as a stonelord, witnessing the forgiveness of a murderer by the church of Sarenrae, and learning that half of an Osirion city is populated by undead.

6) Finally, I'd like you to include with your submission a fear or paranoia that causes your character to shiver, cower, or panic. Anything from spiders to unexplained happenstance, but I'm sure you'll all come up with some awful stuff on your own: This is more of a half fear/half hatred for undead, but a very specific fear of his is having an ally, friend or family member being turned into an undead-he cannot fathom at the idea of anyone close to him becoming tainted, and the thought of having to kill those he cares about because of that makes him nervous.

Will update his full statistics as soon as possible.

Sure, I'll dot this.

Dotting my dot, very interested.

Here is my submission for the adventure; A human warrior with thoughts of becoming a Living Monolith. I hope he meets with you approval. The spoiler 'Background" holds all the answers to your questions. Thank you

Daniel Stewart

May I present Rani, Wizard and Diviner?

There is a question I have: PCgen gave me Common and Osiriani free for my location background. Where I grew up basically. Is that okay? If not drop Ignan, it's intended to be swapped before beginning play if another language appears more useful.

I may have overdone this a bit, the background is very long and I cross referenced my answers to your questions to it.

There are some cliches, including the not your real father one but I don't think most are central to the character so are available for rewrites or characters could bond over the similarity.

Please do not hesitate with any questions, comments, or desired changes.

Haha! To be honest how hard is it to create a character without turning to cliche? After all, everyone likes them, because they work!

Least both my parents are alive, but I still fall under the snobby condecending drow stereotypical attitude.

Of course we all have these cliches! Remember, we use cliches because they have always been there, and they're useful.

I've got some of these obvious cliches too, like "(monster type) tried to kill my mother, all (monster type) must die)", the mysterious stranger who disappears one day, and probably more that I can't think of right now. These are simply staples we are used to, and that have been proven to serve well.

OK, dotting in with this character - concept, fears, memories etc are listed in the profile.

I'm nowhere near done on the build; I wanted to get the character sorted out first. Mechanically, she'll be a bard (not an archaeologist) with the Noble Scion feat and Blood of Pharaohs campaign trait.

...missed the edit window.

Just wanted to add that I'm not set on her following Shelyn: if there's an Ancient Osirian deity of art, beauty, etc that would be good to know. Would make more sense thematically.

Here's my character-in-progress: Zahrah Kesi, a Rahadoumi woman come to Osirion to make her future through tomb exploration. But she's making her future in a way...a bit differently from most of the other explorers. She'll be a necroccultist, but her statblock's not started yet, as the story I go with is likely to influence some build choices.

A couple of questions (one repeated from earlier, since there's been a lot of posts today):
1) How do you feel about using VMC? I'd very much like her to have VMC Bones Oracle, but I understand if you don't like the ruleset.
2) If you're ok with me using VMC, how do you feel about me using the Lich curse from Horror Realms?

The Lich curse, if you haven't yet seen it:
Every living spellcaster hides a secret in their flesh—a unique, personalized set of conditions that, when all are fulfilled in the correct order, can trigger the transformation into a lich. Normally, one must expend years and tens of thousands of gold pieces to research this deeply personalized method of attaining immortality. Yet, in a rare few cases, chance and ill fortune can conspire against an unsuspecting spellcaster. You have (unknowingly) fulfilled most (but not all) of the ritualistic components to achieve lichdom. You have yet to turn into an undead creature, but you are close. You take damage from positive energy and heal from negative energy as if you were undead. At 5th level, add control undead to your list of 2nd-level oracle spells known. At 10th level, add undead anatomy I to your list of 3rd-level oracle spells known and undead anatomy II to your list of 5th-level oracle spells known. At 15th level, you are immune to death effects.

If you'd rather not mess with having a party member injured by positive energy, the Wasting curse should suit my purposes all right as well. I'm also perfectly willing (and in fact intending) to take the inflict spells myself to mitigate it.
3) If you're ok with me using VMC and I use a curse that adds spells known, would those be added as occultist spells known instead, or would they just be oracle spells known that I'd then cast with my nonexistent oracle spell slots? Either way is fine, but I don't know for sure what the intended interaction is.

Sorry for the barrage, and thank you in advance for your answers!
