Recruitment

51 to 100 of 154 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | next > last >>

Name dropping Final Fantasy IX has grabbed my interest even more than the original thread idea.

Okay. Back to the original plan, rather than the fractured mind spiritualist with the fear phantom...

GM Sappy wrote:

Point buy would be low, surely no higher than 15 pts - but possibly increasing later in the game.

.....

That is going to hurt my idea for a monk, but I can try to work with it if the stats went up.

I'll PM you another Idea I have, GM Sappy.

Chosen One Paladin would be great for this. It basically screams young character.

Sounds great!
15 point buy is very generous, if the attributes are otherwise normal.

I'd like to try my hand at an occult class of some kind - either a full-blown Psychic, a Medium who just sees/hears things as a child, or a mesmerist.

So, I've thrown down some tentative rules, and I'd like a bit of feedback. Once they're satisfactory, I'll set up the recruitment proper.
Character Creation:
Race: Any Core, Featured, Kitsune, Samsarans, Suli. If you want to reflavour a race, or try your hand at the Race Builder, drop me a message. Just keep it believable, let's not make a full-Moogles party (though it could be an idea).
Starting Age: In human terms, between 8 and 14. Read below for details on other races.
Rule Override: Age: Curse the long-lived races and their slow growth, throwing everything out of sync. I'll speed it up so that they'll be considered adults around 30 years. Therefore, their starting age should be between 16 and 28. Once I've chosen a team, I'll try to do the math and tweak things around. Planetouched (Aasimar, Tiefling, Sylph, Undine, Oread, Ifrit, Suli) can have a human lifespan if they desire.

Point Buy: 12 pts. You'll get some extra advancement as you grow up, though. You can dump abilities if you want, but if you do, I'll take advantage of it.

Classes: Any Paizo, Spheres of Power. Spheres of Might will become available for retraining once you get to Level 1, right now it'd be pretty hard to balance while keeping the flavour.
Rule Override: Apprenticeship: Of course, you are just training as adventurers, you are not yet. Here are some rules for "level 0.1".
- Class Skills only give a +1 bonus.
- Starting HP are half your HD + Con score.
- Classes with high or medium BAB only have a +0 BAB. Classes with low BAB have a -1 BAB.
- Classes with medium or low BAB are proficient with two simple weapons. Classes with high BAB are proficient with simple weapons and one martial weapon. Unchained Monks are only proficient with their unarmed strikes. Magi are proficient with one martial weapon.
- Casting classes have a Caster Level of 0 for all numerical purposes. They are, however, still considered casters.
- Non-Sphere Casting classes can cast one less Level 1 spell per day. If it would bring the total to 0, they can only cast the bonus spells for having a high casting ability score.
- Spherecasting classes have 2 spell points less than normal. This can't bring the total below zero. They also only gain one bonus magic talent instead of the two usually awarded for the first time a character gains the casting ability.
- Animal Companions, Eidolons, Ghost companions and similar buddies get the Young template.

Balancing is HARD. It's likely that I've severely punished some classes, and left others relatively untouched. If so, I'm welcoming feedback.

Feats: You'll get a bonus feat at level 1, chosen between Power Attack, Weapon Finesse, Deadly Aim, Point Blank Shot, Combat Casting and Combat Expertise. Plan accordingly.

Traits: One trait. No need to choose one from the RotRL player's guide. Once you get to level 1, I'll give you another trait, customized to how you played your childhood.

Mishaps: Every time you fail an attack, a skill check or some other d20 roll by 5 or more, I reserve the right to add extra effects. Setting your hair on fire while casting spark, disarming yourself with a clunky attack, getting your finger caught in a lock, this sort of things.

Starting Gold: 10 gp.

That sounds like a solid set of rules to me. Would you actually allow a Changeling, by the way?

I too like this.
i like idea of a small kitsune pup

If we start small, we get the small template correct?

I'm cool with the rules as they exist. I'll begin applying them to what I've fleshed out so far for my imaginary friend spiritualist.

EDIT: One question regarding size. Are human children considered small, or will we be run as medium?

Do we have to meet the prerequisite for the bonus feat? (E.g., could I be a 3/4 BAB at level 1 with Power attack)

Got a Monk being made.

Size: good question. You can be Small, with the appropriate bonuses and penalties, but no ability score adjustments, if you want.

Bonus feat: no need for prerequisites but remember that you aren't level 1 yet, so you don't have it.

Luthian: You seem to have too many feats. You should only have 1, plus Quarterstaff Master.

Okay, next question. Do we get the normal feat for being level 1, or is that happening later on?

My bad, you did say we get an extra feat? did you mean for when we hit lvl1?

We can consider the starting level as a level 0. You get the class abilities for level 1, but the bonus feat will only be awarded once you hit level 1, as well as your extra trait and the removal of the gimping rules.

FedoraFerret wrote:

Ah. Very well. Will remove improved trip from my list of feats =^^=

Is background skills system in use or not?

Do we get the normal level one feat, even though we're starting at Level 0?

Those are some nice rules. I ran through some of the implications, and I like them!
I am now thinking about the character.
Last question; starting equipment? Anything we can buy with the 10gp? Just checking if they'll let a kid have a sword, for instance.

Well, those rules were a bit of a stub for feedback, I'll have a more detailed post up as soon as possible. However, for your questions:

- Changelings are OK. So are Grippli and Vanara.
- Background Skills are OK
- You get the level 1 feat. Not the bonus feat from Power Attack, Weapon Finesse, Deadly Aim, Point Blank Shot, Combat Casting and Combat Expertise.
- And as for the equipment, I'll write down some "beginner" armor and weapons. Wooden swords, old weapons, Grandpa's hunting vest and so on.

RHMG's Sub,
working on background.....

Alright, since people are submitting, here goes. I need to pick my level 1 feat still, but here she is.

Here's Dakash Naan, amnesiac child-psychic! Will flesh out background stuff in a bit, but here's the crunch.

I like the idea behind the rules. My only worry would be that the compounding nerfs could lead to the characters being even weaker than you expect, but that's always a worry with homebrew.

For your consideration, Samara "Sammy" Vestrana, niece and apprentice to a traveling fortune teller who recently settled down in Sandpoint, and completely unaware psychic.

(among the things I don't like about paizoboards is that it's really hard to find an avatar that fits your character concept in the best of circumstances.)

Character Sub List:

Complete:
Aurora Monk
Ileyna Spiritualist
Dakash Psychic
Sammy Psychic

Missing Alias:
Luthian Magus

--------------

So we Have;
1 Monk
1 Spiritualist
2 Psychics
1 Magus

Looks like we are missing the Skill monkey and Divine Caster.

Alias will be fixed in the coming week. Still need to decide on a backstory

If we're double-stacked on psychics, I will gladly make an Oracle, Shaman, or Cloistered Cleric to fill the Divine role and help cover the skill gap. Oracle gets us more "face" stuff. I'll write something up this evening.

Here's my submission for a Shaman, to fill the divine caster role.

Updated Character List:

Complete:
Aurora Monk
Ileyna Spiritualist

Taraketh Shaman

Looks like we are missing the Skill monkey.

There's a lot of people with skill points, but no-one with full BaB.
I'm interested in going Blacksmith once we do the retraining. I suppose do Fighter or Barbarian until then. I'll try and keep it physical so as not to clash with our Shaman Taraketh.

Monk can count as a full BAB class with Flurry of Blows.

I plan on building an elementalist from spheres of power, should have it up tonight.

Intention is to build a barbarian. Hopefully it'll be up tomorrow if not then tuesday.

EDIT: Do I have to play an unchained barbarian? Or do I get the option to choose?

Gramork wrote:

I only ever use Regular versions, never unchained, so I hope we get to choose.

Only time unchained is usually enforced is with Summoner

Hope you're both right. I will definitely be rolling a standard barbarian if I have a choice.

This thread is growing faster than expected and I haven't had time to breathe in the last four days, sorry. I should manage to get the complete character creation rules in a few hours.

For the unchained versions, Barbarians and Monks can choose, Rogues have no reason not to be unchained, and Summoners will use the unchained spell list but the standard eidolon (provided they don't abuse it). Also, we can work together to stack unstackable archetypes and such other abilities.

GM, what do you require from a background? being small and young doesnt make much of a margin for what has happened :P

Ileyna's background doesn't have any sort of combat or anything in it. Maybe an event that the character would consider significant, a couple of family members, and possibly a role in the town? That's sort of what I angled for.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Of course goblins ate my post. Anyway, full rules (at the best of my abilities) are here.
Recruitment open. Deadline June 5th. Rise of the Runelords confirmed (eventually).

Character Creation:
Race: Any Core, Featured, Changelings, Kitsune, Samsarans, Suli. If you want to reflavour a race, or try your hand at the Race Builder, drop me a message. Just keep it believable, let's not make a full-Moogles party (though it could be an idea). For Race Building, you can build up to 16 RP. If you have an ability with a +4 bonus, I expect it not to be your primary one. Also, lower-powered races may receive small gameplay adjustments during gameplay should they feel lackluster in comparison.
Classes: Any Paizo, Spheres of Power. Spheres of Might will become available for retraining once you get to Level 1, right now it'd be pretty hard to balance while keeping the flavour.
Summoners must use the unchained spell list, others can choose whether to be unchained or not.
And of course, you can write me if you'd like to make a certain build, but the archetypes you like are mutually exclusive just by that itsy bitsy bit...

- Animal Companions, Eidolons, Ghost companions and similar buddies get the Young template.
Hidden Potential: If you are playing a class where potential may be suddenly discovered (e.g. Sorcerer) you can send me the sheet via PM and just drop the background in this thread.

Starting Level: 0. You get the Level 1 feat, however.

Feats: You will get a bonus feat once you reach level 1, chosen between Power Attack, Weapon Finesse, Deadly Aim, Point Blank Shot, Combat Casting and Combat Expertise. Plan accordingly.

Traits: One trait. No need to choose one from the RotRL player's guide. Once you get to level 1, I'll give you another trait, customized to how you played your childhood.

Additional Rules: We'll be using the Background Skills system.

Items: You can buy old hands-me down weapons and armors at half price. Old weapons deal damage as if they were one size smaller, old armor has its ACP increased by 2.

Party Balance: To hell with it. I'll pick the ones I like best.

Background: Just answer these few questions in character.
- How would you describe yourself in a single sentence?
- How did you end up in Sandpoint? Born here, moved here...?
- Who do you live with? Family, foster parents, siblings...?
- What do you want to do when you grow up?
- Who is your best friend? (hint hint, you may do joint backgrounds...)
- What is your favorite scary tale?
- Who is the most awesome person ever, and why is she Shalelu Andoshana?

The bit about not wanting a full Moogle party is having the opposite effect on me and making me really want to try and see what I can come up with for a Moogle race! :P Or even the Black Mages from FFIX. Or... There are actually a lot of cool races in Final Fantasy: Cetra, Al Behd, Bangaa, Yuke to name a few. My point being there is a chance I will take a crack at one of those.

How would you feel about a Chocobo-esque animal companion? Is there something already available in the rules that would fit it? (Axe Beak looks like a possbility) Might as well go full out with the Final Fantasy thing. (Can you tell I love Final Fantasy yet?).

Also, if we are born in Sandpoint do we have some leeway with the city? I was thinking of making the rich kid whose parents are too busy to pay them much mind so he runs about in the wild with his animal companion (hunter class).

Here's Taraketh's background, according to your specifications, GMSappy

Background:

How would you describe yourself in a single sentence? AND ALSO How did you end up in Sandpoint?

"I don't hardly reckon that's none of your business, but if'n you gotta know, I suppose there ain't no harm in sayin' I'm ol' Yorg Feyn's adopted boy, or that he found me while out pickin' truffles in the woods over yonder. I don't know much of how I got to be there, but Papa says I'm touched in a witchin' way, and sometimes animals treat me like kin. He say it's strange, but it's all I know. Besides, it's how I got my only friend 'round here, Orvis!"

Who do you live with?
"I live with my Papa Yorg, and his two daughters, Maribel and Angelene. We got ourselves a little cabin and a patch of land to work, and Papa lets me help him sometimes!"

What do you want to do when you grow up?
"I want to take over Papa's farm, and grow the finest vegetables like Sandpoint ain't never seen, and then I want to sell them, and make people like me because I'm giving them good food to eat! When the folk around Sandpoint finally like me and buy my fruit, I'll travel the world with my money and find new plants to grow."

Who is your best friend?
"Most of the boys around here just pick up they bags and walk back to they homes when I come 'round, but a couple of the girls treat me okay...I especially like to spend time with Ileyna. She even let me meet Tallow once, and I didn't cry or scream or nothin'!"
Ileyna/Aest, I hope this is okay - I'm happy to revise if you don't want to be associated with me at all.

What is your favorite scary tale?
"Papa tells this real spooky yarn about a fella who was hanged. They say he's a merchant, wandering from place to place to sell his goods, and the night before he come into town, a different fella got robbed on the road.

So this merchant, he shows up and they ask him if he got any chalk, like the first man had, and he did. They ask him if he got any pepper, like the first man had, and he did. Then they asked him if he had a spying glass, and he said he ain't got one. But, they looked in his things, and he sure enough, he had the spyglass like the first man had.

So they hanged this merchant fella, and left him there, and for days and days, this merchant fella's mean old dog sat under him at the foot of the tree. Wouldn't let nobody touch his body.

Finally, after a week or two, the merchant's body rotted and fell, and disappeared! Then, not three nights later, the first man, he was walking back home to his town, just as proud as a peacock that his plan to get revenge on the merchant worked.

You see, he'd felt like he got swindled by the merchant, and so he planted that spyglass back in his bags, as a trap. But wouldn't you know it, on his way back, he was attacked by a glowing man and a dog on the road!

They killed him, and left his body, and even now, Papa says the merchant and his dog walk the roads between towns, killin' any man with revenge in his heart, or greed in his eye."

Who is the most awesome person ever, and why is she Shalelu Andoshana?

"Shalelu's the woman who protects our woods! She comes 'round every now and then, and always knows what's happening around here. Her friend Ameiko is a nice lady, too, and gives Ms. Andoshana free drinks and everything! I wanna be like a boy-Shalelu when I grow up, except with my own farm and Orvis to keep me company, because I'm sure it's awful lonely out in the woods all the time without Orvis."

Background:
How would you describe yourself in a single sentence?

Well the grownups call me a little imp, but I only sometimes like to stick frogs in peoples drinks when they're not looking or hide Auntie's Harrow cards, and I'm pretty sure imps like to do those things all the time so that isn't right.

How did you end up in Sandpoint? Born here, moved here...?

I don't remember not living in Sandpoint ever, but Auntie says when I was really small we used to travel all over the place. I dunno why we settled down, though.

Who do you live with? Family, foster parents, siblings...?

I live alone with my Auntie Anya.

What do you want to do when you grow up?

I wanna be a fortune teller, and then tell people I like nice stuff and the people I don't like scary stuff!

Who is your best friend? (hint hint, you may do joint backgrounds...)

At the risk of sounding forward...

Yuuki's really fun to play with, and some of the other kids are nice I s'pose. They don't really talk to me much though, they think I'm weird after that one girl who made fun of me suddenly got a headache and a bloody nose.

What is your favorite scary tale?

Once upon a time, there was a good and honest man who walked into a bar like a fool. In the bar was a beautiful woman with a soul of charcoal, and she found the man's honest nature appealing. So she cast a spell on him to make him fall in love with her, because even he wasn't foolish enough to really fall in love with someone so vile. She took him away from his home and his family, and locked him away for a year, until she finally returned him with a child in his arms and the enchantment broken. Horrified at what he had done, he jumped off a bridge, leaving everyone around him to clean up all of the messes he'd made with his foolishness.

Auntie tells me that one sometimes, when I ask for a scary story. It always gives me the shivers.

Who is the most awesome person ever, and why is she Shalelu Andoshana?

Shalelu's super awesome, obviously, but Grannie Kolya is even more awesomer. She's not my real Grannie, but she's teaching me to read the Harrow even though Auntie won't, and she gives me tea and sweets and always wants to know how my day was.

How would you describe yourself in a single sentence?
Well, I am really good with my Sire's staff. Any staff. Da' taught me well; if Sammy and myself get together there usually follows a lot of mayhem. I like jokes! like my Dame... er i mean mamma

- How did you end up in Sandpoint? Born here, moved here...?
"Uhm, mommy told me that we moved here from a very far country before i was born. So ive been here my whole life!"

- Who do you live with? Family, foster parents, siblings...?
"With mamma and pappa. My little sister is still to small. I'm a big brother!"

- What do you want to do when you grow up?
"Oh! I want to have many tails, like pictures of grandpa! Travel all over!"

- Who is your best friend?
"When I do go out, I like to play with Sammy, she likes my jokes, don't know why other's dont?"

- What is your favorite scary tale?
"Pappa told me of young Kitsune who thought he was the mostest clevererer of all. And he bragged he couldnt get cathed... then one day, he drank nasty water, pappa called it ale... or whiiiine... or something. He said it is very bad for us, and he got sick then. He was caughted... and ALL his tails were cut off!! I don't want to loose my tail! sniff"

- Who is the most awesome person ever, and why is she Shalelu Andoshana?
"Pointy ear lady is a lot of fun to talk to, she seemed to have travele-ed everywheres. She has fun stories! So much adventure!"

Hmm - if someone wanted to play up the differing age rates - thinking orc kid that hits adulthood at 12 (as opposed to 15), or a forlorn elf, would that be ok?
