Rules Questions

1. Does escape route work while mounted RAW? Do most people think it isn't RAI or is the consensus that its fine?

2. If a mount makes an overrun attempt, do AoOs work like this?
-mount initiates overrun attempt, triggering AoO against mount
-mount succeeds and moves through opponent's space, triggering 2 AoOs from movement, one on rider and one on mount
-mount keeps moving but triggers no additional AoOs from movement as it is the same movement as moving through opponent's space

3. What does moving through an opponent's space mean? Where am I and the mount when this happens?

4. Can an int 2 mount learn escape route if given to them with something like the cavalier's battle tactics ability? I know they can't learn it themselves until int 3. Can int 0 undead minions be granted teamwork feats by battle tactics or a similar ability?

1) Yes, you're sharing a space and there is no exception to teamwork feats for a mounted pair so you can benefit.

2) It's not clear from the mounted combat rules (or rather, lack thereof) how attack of opportunity work against mounted characters. As a result there is no single accepted answer. I'm generally of the opinion that the movement provokes only one attack of opportunity which can be directed against either the mount or the rider but not both. Your interpretation that both the rider and mount provoke independently (and thus someone with combat reflexes could take a shot at both) is also perfectly valid.

3) It literally means that your mount (or part of it, since mounts are usually large creatures that occupy more than one tile) is inside the same tile as an opponent. At least for a moment, you both are occupying the same space. You cannot end turn like this, however, so you must continue moving.

4) Animal companions are only restricted on what feats they can select. Feats granted from other sources, such as the Cavalier's Tactician ability, are not subject to that restriction.

Thanks! That was very helpful. So mindless undead can't make use of feats given to them?

Mindless undead can have feats, they just don't gain any through HD as creatures normally do. A feat granted by Tactician would work just fine.

Last question: where am I and my mount when we get the AoO from greater overrun? Are we in the opponent's space, meaning I may not get an attack with a reach weapon (lance)? Or does the AoO happen where the overrun was initiated (10ft from the opponent if mount has reach) which means I could attack with my lance?

Interesting to note, as far as Escape Route goes, that Ultimate Intrigue brought up an alternate rule for that:

Mounted Fury: Mount wrote:
A mounted fury’s bond with his mount is strong, with the pair learning to anticipate each other’s moods and moves. At 3rd level, the mounted fury’s mount shares all his teamwork feats, without needing to meet the prerequisites (although while mounted, the mounted fury and his mount do not count as separate creatures for the purpose of these feats).

Since Ultimate Intrigue clarified many things (including a subtle rule change to Feint) I've adopted this for home games as well as a general rule, instead of specific to Mounted Fury. Just food for thought.

It's not completely clear from the text, but I'd say that yes you're in the opponent's space when they are tripped and therefor cannot take the AOO with your lance.
