Retraining a Class Archetype

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

The retraining rules state "To gain an archetype that replaces standard class abilities you already have, you must spend 5 days for every alternate class feature you would add, subtract, or replace by taking that archetype."

It specifically calls out "adding," "subtracting," and "replacing" - what about Archetype features that "alter" base class features? Are they the same, or do they not count against the cost?

If they don't count, what's the cost of retraining into an Archetype whose features are ALL just of the "alter" variety (like this one)?

"To abandon an archetype, you must spend 5 days for every alternate class feature you already have from that archetype. At the end of the retraining, you lose the archetype’s class features and gain the standard class features for the class."

This section makes it clearer, you would have to retrain all altered/replaced features back to vanilla before training for the new archetype.

You understand I'm not talking about training OUT of an Archetype, right?

The same intent applies, 5 days retraining for every alternate class feature. Even if an archetype is only altering a feature, you are still replacing it with the altered version of that feature.

So if retraining a standard wizard into an exploiter wizard would take at least 10 days (since the archetype changes two wizard class features?)

That is correct

I thought maybe that was what you meant, I just wasn't 100% positive we were communicating.
