Single Class or Multiclass

Advice

Hello, just wanted to start this post by saying I'm new to the game in case this comes across as obvious.
So I'm currently a level 6 rogue/ lvl 2 fighter but I'm wondering if actually it would be better to put all my levels in rogue since from what I've come across multi-classing does not seem to be all that good.

So my question is should I try put all my levels into rogue and if I did want to change my two fighter levels for two rogue levels would I have to use "retraining" ? Or is there another way ?

If you want to recreate your character you might want to go into unchained rogue if your GM allows it. It is not overpowered but it adds some interesting options that make it better than the classic rogue.

I'm not against multiclassing but I usually avoid it if I don't have a good reason for it, so I'd say stick just to rogue levels.

Ask your GM if he'd allow you to recreate your character for free, some GMs might allow it if you're not trying to abuse the rules. Personally I'd allow it for a new player who didn't know a lot about the game when he created the character.

First before taking any decission talk to your GM and ask him how many changes is he going to allow.

Retraining is how you'd change the class levels. No, there isn't another way.

As to whether it'd be better to go with rogue 6 / fighter 2 or just rogue 8, it depends on what the character is beyond their character classes. What feats do you have, what archetypes if any, & is the character's personality defined by their class abilities in any way?

it entirely depends what your going for some concepts you would be better of sticking with one class while other concepts you need to multi class

Well our campaign was very combat focused so I took 2 levels in fighter to toughen him up along with the cleave and power attack feat.
However recently I've been using improved feint + sneak attack to do most of my damage. Furthermore I don't feel we need as strong a presence in melee since our priest can summon creatures if need be.

Story wise my character comes from a noble family but was kicked out of his domain, now he roams the land trying to accumulate enough wealth and prestige to take back his kingdom. So concept wise I imagined him using his skills to survive on his own and his discretion to hide from possible pursuers. So in my mind I should try and lose the warrior levels.

It sounds like you've answered your own question there. It also sounds like you're using the core rulebook only, and with that fighters definitely aren't strong enough that a couple of levels of fighter would be a great help to you.

Ok thanks all for the help

If its available, from what it sounds like. You might like looking into Slayer class as well.
uncahined rogue or slayer seems the closest to what you might like.

Scarab Sages

If you are core only, you want to change your fighter levels to barbarian levels. Rage would give you a damage boost, more hp, and a movement speed boost that will help you flank. Core rogue is really a terrible class, but rogue/barbarian actually works pretty well and is better than a core rouge.

If you have access to the unchained rouge though, you should stay pure rogue. The skill unlocks and debilitating strike upgrades are too good.

My suggestion is rework the character to go Shadow Dancer on the next level. Fighter of two levels gives you two combat feats of three to get into that Prestige Class. Hide in Plain sight at first level give you that sneaking edge. Get Fast Stealth Talent from Rogue and you just go Stealth and stay that way. You can hide in plain sight with a five foot step which helps after you backstab someone. So you can get your backstab in almost every attack. Another idea is Two Weapon Fighting. Just one level with a pair of short swords doubles your damage output. You can sneak attack with both blades especially if you can always flank. It's a Full Round Action using two weapons but you still get your five feet of move allowing you to hide again in plain sight.
