Infinity Oracles, Paradox Shift, and Crits

Rules Questions

So, if I roll an nat 18, use an Infinity Oracle's Paradox Shift revelation, and roll a 2, does that mean the attack is now a crit?

Would you care to provide the source of the ability, or at least its wording? It doesn't appear to be a mystery I've ever heard of, isn't on Nethys or the PFSRD, and isn't in HotDL.

It's from Starjammer, which provides the new Infinity Mystery. One of the revelations is as follows:
Paradox Shift (Su): At 5th level, as an immediate action, you may roll one d6 and add that number to the result of any one roll that you are about to make, or alternatively, subtract that number from the result of any one roll that a single opponent is about to make. Treat that result as if it was the original result. Results cannot be raised above 20, nor can they be lowered below 1. You must declare that you are using this power before the roll is made. You can use this ability once per day at 5th level, and one additional time per day for every six oracle level beyond 5th.

The text seems to suggest to me that this can give me a massively greater chance for a critical hit, and I was curious if I'm reading that correctly.

EDIT: Formatting

Yes, that is what it does, but keep in mind you have to use the ability before the d20 roll.

Generally, the rules question forum is used for question about the Pathfinder ruleset, rather than third-party supplements. There's another forum section for third-party material, and you might get better help there.

That said, from my initial reading it looks like it works the way you think it works. This is a powerful ability, but it's limited by a few things:
- You have to use it before you declare the roll (which means you could easily roll a 2 and have it likely be for naught).
- Even if you do get a roll high enough that an added d6 would get you to 20, you have to get the right number to match it (which means you could roll a 17 and a 2 and have it likely be for naught).
- It can only be used up to three times a day.

I would confirm with your GM that that's the way they interpret it, though, as they'll be the final arbiter and they may not want it to turn into Improved Critical 2.0.

Starfinder isn't 3rd party. It's new paizo, but in a sci-fi setting. Check the top left of your window, third graphic down.

Starjammer and Starfinder are two different things though.

If I understand this correctly, Starjammer is a third party game using the open source pathfinder rules for a science fiction game in a third party setting, whereas Starfinder is a new set of rules for a science fiction game from Paizo set in the same universe as their Pathfinder campaign setting stuff (just, in the future.)

/facepalm

The GM would be me, so... :D

But yeah, just wanted to see if I was reading this right. Also, did not realize Starjammer was third party, so thank you for pointing that out.
