How can an Animal Companion overcoming DR-silver, cold iron, etc?

Advice

Silver Crusade

How can you help your druid animal companion, or animal companion from the animal domain or the sylvan bloodline etc overcome damage resistance?

thank you

Amulet of Mighty Fists will do the trick if you get the bonus high enough.

If the animal has a gore attack, then there are Tusk Blades.

Eldritch Claws gives your animal companions Magic/Silver natural weapons, and you get it for free if your animal is a Totem Guide.

This is one of the few reasons I think pounce machines are a little worse off later than big hitters. DR gets really annoying, especially if you don't have the spare change for an extra +5 amulet.

Magic fang, greater can get the bonus on a single natural weapon high enough to overcome cold iron/silver.

Magic fang only bypasses DR/magic. It doesn't let you bypass material DR.

theres a feat that lets you bypass magic and silver you can talk to your gm about getting something similar to angel skin feat for the aasimar that bypasses coldiron

If you have Combat Stamina (whose availability will vary by campaign) and your stamina pool isn't empty, Eldritch Claws goes through cold iron as well as silver and magic.

Aspu's shining scales and heart of the metal can be made into potions. Pouncers can make good use of furyborn amulets (Sub-optimal against may targets good against one big target).

The other option is to give them a second task to do like grapple a caster, or bodyguard.

Add exrta magic damage frostbite, vine strike, chill touch. This has the added effect of making them "debuffers".

thank you for your suggestions.

Do you think it would be terribly unbalancing to create a spell like magic fang, say "silver claws" and "iron bite" to give an animal companion the ability to bypass silver and cold iron?

what do you think?

Thanks

Maybe make it 1 level higher than Heart of the Metal, since it's generally easier to get special material weapons than natural attacks. Otherwise follow the same formula as Heart of the Metal.

One other method, if your a/c has hooves:

Horseshoes of crushing blows may be crafted out of special materials, gaining the usual benefits. For purposes of pricing, they count as a single one-handed weapon weighing 4 pounds (for example, adamantine horseshoes of crushing blows would cost an additional 3,000 gp). The materials needed to make cold iron horseshoes of crushing blows add no extra costs in and of themselves, but enhancing cold iron horseshoes of crushing blows increases the price by the usual 2,000 gp.

To me this implies that you could get non-magical horseshoes made of cold iron, silver, etc, with the same pricing rule (and noting that normal horseshoes cost 0 gp AFAICT---at least, one is never charged for them).

Oh yeah... it even explicitly states that... this is what I get for recommending something without re-reading the spell description first.

No worries. I had done literally the exact same thing about 1 hour before your post on a reddit post. Exact same thing too, bypassing DR with greater magic fang but for a monk. Luckily for them they automatically get material DR bypass with levels.
