Campaign Mode for Modules

In prior iterations of the guild guide, only APs were given the right to be played in campaign mode. However, some modules would be allowed within their sanctioning document to be played as campaign, but there wasn't a general rule that said you could (unless I've just completely missed it).

As of Season 8, the guild guide says that APs and Modules can. Does this apply to older modules as well, that might not include the campaign mode option in the sanctioning documents, or is this only for going forward. I feel this was potentially just a simpler solution than having to revisit every sanctioning document for modules.

If anyone can point me to any statement by leadership (or if leadership could directly comment) that this is or isn't the case would be much appreciated.

Only modules with campaign play options listed.

Liberty's Edge 4/5

IIRC only the longer modules can be done in campaign mode ie the ones published after Dragons Demand.

Silver Crusade 5/5

Yep, Dragon's Demand and the ones after it. Check the chroicle sheet download, if it has the option for campaign mode you are golden.

This just came up for my group too.

Here's the clarification from Tonya that it's only for modules with explicit Campaign Mode in their rules.

I'm still not clear on how "afterward receiving credit for playing the sanctioned portions of the adventure as if you had played a pregenerated character." is supposed to work.

Let's say I play all of Ire of the Storm (with 1-2, 2-4, 3-5, and a bonus 4-6 tier chronicles) and apply all the chronicles to a brand new character. Do I have a nice level 5 (I hope so!)?
Or does "as a pregen" mean 3 of them wait until level 4, and I've got a level 2 with 3(!) chronicles waiting for level 4, when I will jump to level 7 with subpar gold?

This is kind of complicated by the fact that we've got a bunch of pregen modules with different tiers now, that apply when you get to the level of the chronicle sheet, not the pregen, that kind of muddy the waters on how pregen chronicles get applied.

I assume it's supposed to apply cleanly and end up with a level 5, but any clarity would be good.

During his tenure Mike Brock clarified this; you can apply credit from a campaign-mode game to any character within the appropriate tier, or hold the chronicle for a lower-level character until they become in-tier. The level of the campaign mode character is irrelevant, so it's closer to applying GM credit than pregen credit, really.

If you applied the Ire of the Storm chronicles to a new, 0 XP character, the first would be applied immediately, bumping you to level 2 (3 XP). The second would also be applied immediately, since you're in tier, bumping you to level 3 (6 XP); the third and fourth (bonus) chronicles would also be applied immediately, as the previous chronicles continue to keep you in-tier.

Now, mixing in non-campaign mode modules played with actual pregens muddies the waters; held chronicles need to be applied in the order they are earned, as soon as you reach the level of the pregen, so it's possible that those chronicles, if they were played prior to part 3 of Ire, could bump your character past the tier of the Ire bonus chronicle before you could apply it; basically, you'd apply Ire part 3, hit fourth level, and then have to immediately apply all the held chronicles from level four pregens. If those held chronicles pushed you past level six, you'd be too high for the bonus chronicle.

It looks like this is where Mike Brock said that. Cool.
