So I'm obviously blind, but was informed that our Core game wasn't legal because we had 7 players instead of six. While standard allows 7, apparently Core is a max of 6, no exceptions. Is that in the guide and I just can't see it? I was told this by a player who was #7 at another game, and was sent away because there was no second GM available that night. He brought it up tonight because he saw he was #7 again for this week, and really wanted to play. However, someone else dropped out so now he's fine at 6. Just trying to figure what the proper ruling was. I thought it was always try for no more than six, and if possible, split into two groups (4 and 3 plus pregen), and only do 7 if you're comfortable and no real other option.

Regardless of Core or Standard games, the maximum number of players allowed for a PFS game is 7. Usually, this is not ideal and should be a last resort (ideal situation would be two tables). A GM can decide that they are not comfortable running a 7 person table and the players can decide they do not want to have a 7 person table. There is nothing in the Guide that states a different max table size for Core or Standard.

However, if the GM is NOT comfortable with that, they should let players know that they are not, and encourage someone else to help start sharing the GM duties.
Otherwise, if one person is consistently turned away because of this issue, it turns quickly into a perception of bias, which isn't good for anyone.

The GM in question is a former VA, and apparently only started saying this after Season 8 started up and we added Core games. He's ran 7 people before, as I have, but I'm not aware of the comfort levels. I'll have to make sure everyone is fully aware of the rule. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks everyone.

Glad to help as I had been going through the Guide today.
