Maybe the devs caught on the idea that there's nothing "promo" about adding monsters to your game if they're nasty like the Grindilow or Owlbeartross?
OTOH, I approve of promo monsters like the Rogue Eidolon (Padrig's card), which gives you a bonus exploration if defeated. As a rule of thumb, promo cards should be something that you *want* to add to your game, not the opposite...

I liked Rogue Eidolon, but I *loved* Owlbeartross. As much for the grueling difficulty of its pun as its checks. In 2 player games, anyway, time constraints are usually nonexistent and resource management isn't that tough, so we tend to be pretty up for turning over cards with a high quotient of "how the hell are we supposed to deal with this???"
My favorite promo bane is still always gonna be The Squealy Nord, tho. ;_;

You say that, but I was playtesting something with the Skull &a Shackles box with two players, and we basically had to discredit one whole session of play testing as "We kept getting wrecked by the Owlbeartross. Over and over and over."
