i am thinking about making a sorcerer / druid....

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

just for the abilities. 3 lvls verdant bloodline sorcerer/ 5 lvls reincarnated druid/ 1 lvl Green Faith Acolyte up to lvl 3.

verdant sorcerer gives you the ability: Photosynthesis (Ex): At 3rd level, you feed upon nature’s raw essence. Your need to eat and sleep is reduced as if wearing a ring of sustenance, and you gain a +2 racial bonus on saving throws made against poison and sleep effects.
(ring of sustenance: This ring continually provides its wearer with life-sustaining nourishment. The ring also refreshes the body and mind; its wearer needs only sleep 2 hours per day to gain the benefit of 8 hours of sleep.)

reincarnated druid gets: Many Lives (Ex): At 5th level, if a reincarnated druid is killed, she may automatically reincarnate (as the spell) 1 day later. The reincarnated druid appears in a safe location within 1 mile of her previous body. At will for the next 7 days, she can sense the presence of her remains as if using locate object as a spell-like ability. If she is killed during these 7 days, she remains dead and does not reincarnate.

Green Faith acolyte gets: Hibernate (Su) At 3rd level, a Green Faith acolyte can enter a state of suspended animation as a full-round action. This state is similar to the effect of sepia snake sigil, except that the Green Faith acolyte is aware of changes in her surroundings or harm to her body as if deeply asleep. She can end this state at any time as a full-round action. If she remains in hibernation for at least a week before emerging, her body is renewed as if by both a heal spell and a restoration spell. A Green Faith acolyte can remain in this state for up to 1 week per class level, after which she must wait 1 day for each week spent hibernating before entering hibernation again.

at lvl 11:
bab +6
fort save +6
Ref Save +3
Will Save +9

I am thinking of starting this build out at lvl 7. 1 lvl sorcerer/ 5 lvls druid/ 1 lvl green faith acolyte. i won't take animal companion for the druid lvls. but green faith will force one on the character.

I am thinking of playing this build as if it where an oracle and having the reincarnate ability as a curse and having the PC go catatonic for the 7 days that the ability does not work as it recharges.

your thoughts? and should the build stick with the green faith prestige class after it has gotten the hibernate or continue lvling in druid?

just one problem I can see - you can't take some lvls in 1 archetype then switch archetype for more lvls in the same class - you have an archetype for all your lvls in that class or non at all - can't change between lvls without retraining all your lvls of that archetype

reincarnated druid is a druid archetype
reincarnated druid.

verdant bloodline is a sorcerer bloodline
sorcerer verdant bloodline.

green faith acolyte is a prestige class
Green Faith Acolyte. your thinking of the archetype Green Faith Initiate . one is a diplomat the other is.... better druid... leader thing.

My first thought is I wouldn't want to wait around for a week while another PC is catatonic.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

My second thought is I wouldn't want to spend three character levels to duplicate a 2,000 GP magic item.

no one plans on dying. but if you are you might as well do it in a big fight. where afterwards your fellow team mates are in town selling their stuff and partying for a week. have you looked at some of the curses that the oracle has. they always have that curse going on. this guy or girl would just need a week of bed rest after dying. bed rest for a week or that guy that breaks every thing he touches or has his flesh rotting off of him or is missing a leg or is always asleep and needs to be carried into battle.

the curse is not really he sleeps for a week. the real curse is that he can not stay dead can't join his family in the afterlife and has to watch everyone he knows or loves grow old and die.

You don't need the photosynthesis via sorc levels, or a ring of sustenance - the hibernation works as per sepia snake sigil, which says: "the subject does not age, breathe, grow hungry, sleep, or regain spells." Which makes the character a lot more viable IMO. Losing 3 caster levels is one of the big no-no's for a full caster.

If it doesn't happen too often I can see other players being fine to work with this, but if you treat "I cannot die!" as an excuse to repeatedly suicide they may get tired of wasting weeks at a time.

If you don't care about the animal companion then one more level in the PrC to round off the BAB and to get the Power over Nature ability seems good, but I wouldn't go further. The Archdruid (etc.) challenges are a lottery and seem like they'd be a true pain for little gain, unless you have specific political aims within the Green Faith.

it's not that i don't care for animal companions. i like animal companions i think they are cool. my GM on the other hand..... hates them and kills them off as soon as he can with prejudice. i was going to take boon companion to make up for the animal companion weakness.

as for the sorcerer. your not really losing three caster levels your gaining a different kind spell casting. and not having to eat and does not need to sleep more then two hours and a +2 racial bonus on saving throws made against poison and sleep effects. are pretty good.

I was thinking of taking a dip in oracle for the solar mystery and picking the "serpent in the sun" revelation. and one feat to pick up "Astral Caravan" later just because being able to travel 50 miles in one hour seems kinda cool. but when I brought it up with my DM he said that for that mystery the the curse would have to be super debilitating and that traveling through the astral plane would be to hazardous for a PC's health to travel alone would likely be attacked.

and having two strong curses just seems a bit much.
