War priest of Thor

Advice

New game I actually get to play instead of run starting at first level 20 maybe 25 point buy. Decided to play a war priest I've read over it a few times never played one before.

looking to play a big war hammer wielding Norse viking type character.
Electricity and strength are high priority I also intend to use a lot of poetry in my speech.

So what do you guys thik would be some good options to hit my concept home as much as possible. stats, feats, possible archtypes, etc.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The base warpriest or Liberty's Blade would be the only appropriate archetypes IMO. The base warpriest with Strength and Weather blessings would probably feel closest.

Going for one big hit - power attack, vital strike etc. - seems most appropriate. I would say warhammer and shield, but with the above in PF you really want a big 2H weapon, probably an earthbreaker.

Thor is a god more of the common folk than professional warriors (for which see Odin or Tyr/Tiw). Having at least a rank in some profession or craft would fit. You almost have to have some skill at intimidate and intimidating prowess would fit.

Remember your god doesn't worry about dignity like some. He can take a joke, even an insult. But when he does decide to act he lets nothing stop him, not dignity or fear or people talking him down, and you probably aspire to the same.

Awesome thanks

Hmm If i'm going to use sacred weapon then It won't matter about an earth-breaker or war hahmmer later right?

Sacred weapon only matters when the damage is greater than the weapons normal damage. It gives more bang for the buck on poor weapons than good weapons. With a Warhammer it makes no difference until you get to 10th level where its damage goes up to 1d10. The Warhammer will match the Earthbreaker at 15th level.

How high is this campaign going to go? If it is not getting to high levels than you will never see any advantage from sacred weapon. Also are you more interested in long term advantage or short term? The big advantage of the Warhammer is that you can use it with a shield. The extra damage is probably going to be more important at lower levels when you don’t have as many static bonuses and the opponents HP are lower. But at the same time the extra AC is also more important at that level. What it really comes down to is do you want a character focused more on offense or do you want more options. You can always drop the shield and use the Warhammer two handed for nearly the same amount of damage.

I think I may start with war hammer my DM should be good with retraining options for later levels. The ac should be more helpful for me at this level and I think I heard we were going against kobolds for first little bit so the damage won't matter as much.

Scarab Sages

It's designed for Torag, but if you're using Thor you aren't going with golarion deities, so see if you can use Blessed Hammer. It allows you to use a warhammer as a holly symbol, and to spell strike touch spells, like bestow curse.

level 3 now Had a little trouble deciding on feats. so far I have power attack, furious focus, (free weapon focus from war priest) and I get two feats at 3rd one bonus one regular. any suggestions?

If you're still up against kobolds maybe cleave and cleaving finish. If you feel like intimidating people intimidating prowess and dazzling display. If you want to work towards felling smash then get dirty fighting and improved trip. If a lack of skill points is getting to you, then cunning and maybe blind-fight. If you want more defence then fortified armor training and toughness or one of the save bonus feats might work for you. For general offence weapon of the chosen and improved weapon of the chosen might work.

Or others. There are hundreds of feats in PF and I think about half might be at least situationally useful. Maybe one in five generally useful. I want a couple of feats isn't all that useful guidance.

Intimidating prowess and dazzling seems like a good way to go thanks.

Am I right in thinking I can pick up vital strike without my BAB being correct since I get feats as a fighter at my level?

Scarab Sages

Only on your bonus feats. Normal feats follow your normal bab and prerequisites.
