Island Campaign - Ideas needed / wanted! :D

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I am starting a new island campaign and I am looking for ideas!

The PC's will wake up from a ship wreak and have no memory what so ever besides their name. Some will wake up in nice clothes, others handcuffed ect.

Basically this is an island that banished people are sent to. As the ship was coming on the island the ship was attempting to be overthrown and caused it to crash.

I dont want to make this post a mile long, so if you need more details about what I have so far let me know.

Step one: make sure your players are reasonably okey with this pitch. A campaign is an investment for players too. I would love an amnesia story line as a one shot, but possibly dozens of sessions? Maybe, but there are things to discuss. Will we explore our character's pre-amnesia lifes? If yes, how can I be sure that you as a GM won't make me uncomfortable with my own PC? If no, why the story line at all? These are questions you should expect from your players.

I might have some ideas, but I would want to know more of your plan. Who banished the PCs to the island? Why? Is this common? Do all banished people suffer amnesia or was it a fluke, just this time? Why the amnesia?

Step 2, add a character named Wilson who controls(or attempts to do so) the PC's by talking through a Volley ball/Rock using Ghost sound...

If you're starting at 1st level, I'd suggest finding a copy of Adventure Path #37: Souls for Smuggler's Shiv.

Spoiler:
It starts with a shipwreck scenario, and focuses a great deal on basic survival skills as the rank novice PCs deal with its aftermath.

Dot!

All the PC I already know, we all play together every week and switch of campaigns who is Gm ect. So I am not worried about any of that. This is a one shot, with multiple sessions.

"Will we explore our character's pre-amnesia lifes? If yes, how can I be sure that you as a GM won't make me uncomfortable with my own PC?"
- Yes they will get flash backs from time to time, either in a dream or if they see something that triggers a memory. As far as being uncomfortable with your character I personally can not see that happening, if so they shouldn't be playing this particular game. But like I said I know all these players and we talk/play all week so know that will not happen.

"Who banished the PCs to the island? Why? Is this common? Do all banished people suffer amnesia or was it a fluke, just this time? Why the amnesia?"

-Different people this campaign is set in a world that if a criminal is deemed to evil or not worthy of a quick death/think they can escape from prison they are sent to this banished island where they have to die of hunger/thirst/simply loose their mind. Commonish? I mean how often do you get super evil people walking around. They co-gm and I are still deciding if the island makes you loose your memory, or if was something else so would have to get back to you on that one.

Pathfinder Maps, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Maps, Starfinder Roleplaying Game, Starfinder Society Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

You may also want to look at the Strange Aeons adventure path for ideas to mine. Like your scenario, it begins with a party of amnesiac PCs.

Make it Skull Island from the 2005 Peter David version of King Kong.

1) How livable is the island without characters like Druids, Rangers or similar (if none are in the party)?

2) Do the PCs need to protect any NPCs? If so how many? Are there consequences to not protecting the NPCs?

3) Can a base be established?

4) Is there any way off the island either by their own means or by rescue?

I agree. That adventure is one of the most successful 1st level adventures I've ever run. My players loved it. It's all about solving the mystery of the island and working out how to get away safely (if that fits the feel you're going for).

spoiler:
It turns out they were dead the whole time.

Lagoons, volcanoes, nearby islands with other types of banished folk, secret hatches, random polar bears, smoke monsters, giant apes, cannibals, giant cannibal apes, and syrup.

1. I would use your players as resources(unless you already have the flashback backstories set), ask each for favorite monster, favorite foe(cult, law, necromancer, butler, etc), and favorite government type, then randomize them to incorporate into the backstories, while also adding what makes it into the game later as foes they end up facing.

1. If they are smart enough to search teh wreak they can find crates of supplies to survive.

2. No

3. Of course

4. No
