summoner's eidolon hidden in plain sight

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

summoner's eidolon hidden in plain sight. i have been toying with this idea for a long time now. and since eidolons can look like anything you want. why not have your eidolon look like a furred cloak and wear it as such. say your eidolon is a quadruped wolf creature you could wear it about you. i am sure you can find pictures of such things on the net, i have. in a sense a wearable eidolon, kinda, but not a venom/symbiote suit.

anyone have any ideas on this subject?

could work, maybe - though the symbol on you and it might give the game away

Just cover your forehead and that of your eidolon. Only someone who is looking for the twinned marks will pay any special attention to your head coverings.

i thought the mark on the summoner was on his arm

The eidolon’s physical appearance is up to the summoner, but it always appears as some sort of fantastical creature. This control is not fine enough to make the eidolon appear like a specific creature. The eidolon also bears a glowing rune that is identical to a rune that appears on the summoner’s forehead as long as the eidolon is summoned.

So your idea of making them look specifically like a wolf won't work, it'll be obvious it isn't a wolf, which will most likely make ppl look twice

yea it can't look like George the wolf i get it. but George the wolf does not look like a wolf pelt cloak monster eidolon either which can pretend to be worn around it's summoners neck when he decides to spend the night at the local inn. while George the wolf most likely won't make it pass the city gates.

Eidolons always look like some kind of fantastical creature. If you want it to blend in as something more mundane, you'll want the disguise skill. Thankfully, the Skilled evolution is cheap to get and that +8 bonus can really make the difference.

But if you want to actually hide in plain sight, then pick up the Hellcat Stealth feat. That -10 hurts, but Skill Focus and the Skilled evolution tilt things back in your favor. And since Muggle Invisibility has no explination whatsoever, you could potentially reskin the method of stealthing to fit your needs.

I'd call a furry cloaker a "fantastical creature" ;p

Heh. If this were PFS, then I would be obligated as a GM to say you can't do that. The Eidolon is basically grappling the Summoner to stay attached, which would invoke that mire of rules and its associated penalties.

But in a home game? I'd be more than willing to work with the player. Maybe make a new base form/subtype, and then design some kind of "disguise as gear" evolution.

so i am grappling my horse every time i ride it? and inviting children to piggy back ride is inviting assault and possible murder? no wonder the paladin in the party won't let my two foot tall ratfolk ride on his shoulders. he is afraid i might choke him out and steal his +1 ice burst hammer. which i will hide behind my back and and fail the slight of hand maneuver because the handle of the hammer is standing a foot higher then my head.

riding a horse is akin to grappling it - children can be mean - ratfolk are know for things

That depends. Are you actively RIDING the horse, sitting on top, and able to control it? Then no, you don't need to grapple it. But are you pretending as hard as possible to be a cloak that is tied to the Horse's back? If so, then you'd need to either maintain a grip (grapple) or have yourself physically tied to it (which likely comes with its own difficulties)
