Cavaliers should take -2 because of their mount?

Rules Questions

Hi all I have a cavalier who wants to take the leadership feat but argues that he should not take a minus 2 on hos leadership score because his mount is just a regular mount (IE not a T Rex or something).

To me the fact the cavaliers mount levels up along side him just like an animal companion would make it come under an animal companion and thus make him recieve the -2.

Would really appriciate some other feedback on this or other experieces to see how this is usually handled.

I'm pretty sure the cavaliers mount works just like an animal companion for the majority of things.

The Cavalier's Mount class feature functions as Animal Companion in all respects except those listed in the class feature.

This mount functions as a druid’s animal companion, using the cavalier’s level as his effective druid level.

In other words, he has an Animal Companion and thus takes a penalty on his Leadership score.

Yes he does, same as every other class with a pet

The cavalier loves his horse to such an extent that it creeps out his cohort. It's a rule. (ゝ‿ ・)
