Bashing Shield question

Ok, so a bashing shield says it counts as a +1 weapon. If I want to add a weapon bonus (+1 or ability) what's the cost? Is it as a +2 weapon or +3 armor?

if you make it a magic weapon you need to start over by making it a +1. The bashing defensive enhancement only lets it count as a +1 when attacking. and wont stack when you make it an actual +1

Chess is right. If you upgrade your shield as a magic weapon then the 'bashing' quality becomes redundant.
