Wizard starting spellbook

Rules Questions

So I'm making a wizard but theirs one thing I want to know for sure. If I pick Evocation school do or can I get the 0 lvl or the "all" spells of the elementalist spell list. If not do only elementalist wizard (any element) get that type and the "all" category.

A Wizard begins play with all 0th level Wizard spells. If the spell description says it's a Wizard spell of 0th level and it's not of your opposition school then you automatically know it. I'm not aware of any cantrips that are exclusive to the Elemental Wizard specializations.

You can't choose both the Evocation School and an Elemental School, but both have all Wizard Spells on their spell lists. You know all cantrips, even those of your opposition school.

Actually, you know the cantrips of your opposition school as well.

Core Rule Book wrote:
Cantrips: Wizards can prepare a number of cantrips, or 0-level spells, each day, as noted on Table: Wizard under "Spells per Day." These spells are cast like any other spell, but they are not expended when cast and may be used again. A wizard can prepare a cantrip from a prohibited school, but it uses up two of his available slots (see below).

No, you don't. That information is about casting it, not including it in your spell book. The spellbook info:

Quote:
A wizard begins play with a spellbook containing all 0-level wizard spells (except those from his prohibited schools, if any; see Arcane Schools) plus three 1st-level spells of his choice. The wizard also selects a number of additional 1st-level spells equal to his Intelligence modifier to add to the spellbook. At each new wizard level, he gains two new spells of any spell level or levels that he can cast (based on his new wizard level) for his spellbook. At any time, a wizard can also add spells found in other wizards' spellbooks to his own (see Magic).

If you want 0-level spells of your prohibited school in your spellbook, you have to add them in yourself following the normal rules of writing spells into your book. You don't start with those prohibited school 0-level spells in your book.

Also check with your GM. Many GMs only allow the cantrips from the Core Rulebook at start of play. I know that's how I run my games.

Nice catch, Jeraa. I missed that.

Ah, yes, good catch

As long as you are not a Thessalonian Specialist, which goes hard old school on specialization.
